Chapter Twenty-One Angel “This is the shittiest hospital I’ve ever seen.” Dad said as we pulled into the parking lot of the VA hospital. My father had been silent since he arrived at my apartment this morning, and it felt reassuring that he was sounding more like himself. “Yeah, it’s kinda depressing on the inside too.” I said, then Dad grunted as we drove over a pothole. “You’d think the damned government would at least fill in those fuckers.” Dad muttered, then he slid off the seatbelt as I parked. I reached over to unlock my door, but Dad grabbed my arm before I could get out of the Jeep. “Why isn’t that professor dude here with you?” I leaned my forehead against the steering wheel, and sighed. “Dad.
