Sophie dreams that she is falling off a cliff. She dreams she is in Paul’s office building, taking the elevator up and up and up and then suddenly the elevator hits the roof and keeps going and the elevator is glass and Willy Wonka is beside her. But then she falls off a cliff into the Grand Canyon. Up and down. Sophie wakes with a start at four in the morning and watches the ceiling spin around. She crosses her eyes, trying to focus them. She stretches. Sophie turns to look at Paul and he is lying beside her, on his back, also staring at the ceiling.
“Is it spinning for you?” Sophie whispers.
“Yeah.” Paul rubs at his eyes and then turns and looks at Sophie.
“You have to work today,” Sophie says.
“Whose dumb idea was it to have a dinner party on a Monday night?”
