After Helen heats up a bottle and comforts Katherine and puts her back to bed, after she paces the hallway downstairs and worries about the young babysitter walking home alone, things get quiet all around her and she realizes she’s not as upset as she thought she was. It was just a boyfriend visiting, she tells herself. After all, they didn’t have s*x on her couch. But still she checks the couch to make sure. Touches it to see if there are any wet spots. Then she goes to the back porch and opens the door and sniffs to see if they were smoking cigarettes. Or pot. Or whatever. Lindsay did seem out of it. But everything smells cool and fresh and there are no butts in the garden that she can see. After all of this Helen puts on her jacket and her running shoes and walks out the front door
