Ryan “Are you expecting company?” Wren asked, narrowing her gaze at me. I opened my mouth to say no, but another knock echoed through the house, effectively cutting me off. Cursing under my breath, I turned sharply and exited the bedroom for the living room. I could tell she wanted to say something else, and I wanted to know what it was; however, the sudden interruption wouldn’t allow that. I wished I could tell her that while she was still second-guessing our relationship, I already knew what I wanted: her. But she drew a line, and I was going to respect it. Even if it killed me. Ever since last night, it was like she’d been injected into my veins. I wanted to be near her. I needed it, and my wolf didn’t seem to mind either. The knock came again just as my hand wrapped around the handle and ripped it open. “Took you long enough.” Whatever words I wanted to throw at the person at the door faded as a familiar head of white hair blazed past me. “What are you doing here?” I closed the door and turned around. “Aren’t you going to greet your sister first?” She frowned and pulled off her sunglasses. “I’m much more interested in why she’s here.” If this were anyone else, I’d be pissed at the intrusion, but Blair hardly counted as just anyone. “Where is she?” She scanned the room briefly before fixing me with a hard look as stray white strands escaped her neat bun. “Who?” She rolled her eyes. “Don’t play dumb with me. I know she’s in here. Somewhere.” I was four years older than my sister. She was a freshman, and I was a senior, and yet if anyone walked in on us right now, they would have a hard time believing the one being looked at like he just murdered her favourite pet was the eldest. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.” “Oh really?” She scoffed, holding out a hand while she fished for something in her bag with the other. She unlocked her phone and scrolled to whatever she wanted to show me before turning the device. “Care to explain this?” Mother fucker. A picture of Wren and me from last night. Her lips were on mine, eyes closed as I held her to me, followed by a very flawed retelling of the evening. Apparently I choked her boyfriend out and claimed her as mine in front of everyone. Which was technically true, but they didn’t mention the part that led to it. The post was on Singram, a social media platform for both humans and supernaturals, and it already had over fifteen thousand comments. *Our mate is not going to be happy about this,* my wolf growled in a sing-song voice. Tell me about it. “Are you still going to deny it?” I straightened and ran my fingers through my hair. “This isn’t what it looks like.” “Oh really? So you don’t have a mate?” I rubbed the back of my neck. I didn’t want to lie to my sister, but I just agreed to keep our bond a secret. “It’s complicated.” “So you do have a mate.” “As I said, it’s complicated and you shouldn’t even—” “Did you find out who it was at the—oh, hello.” Wren stopped in her tracks, her gaze flickering between my sister and then me. “What’s going on?” Whatever annoyance my sister previously housed melted into a grin when she noticed Wren. She let out a piercing squeal right before she threw herself into my mate’s arms. “It’s so good to meet you. Wow, you’re even more gorgeous in person.” She pulled back a bit and touched her hair, eyes sparkling. “You have really pretty hair. I especially love the red streaks. What conditioner do you use? Never mind that, what’s your name? My name is Blair, by the way.” “Wren.” My mate gave her a conscious smile, her eyes looking to me for an explanation. “Gods, even your name is cool.” Blair turned to look at me. “I don’t get why the moon Goddess would pair you with someone as wonderful as her. You’re way too cool for him.” Wren winced, and though she tried to hide it, I still noticed “Wren, meet my sister.” Her eyes widened. “Your sister?” Blair stepped back and threw a mock exasperated look at me. “I know, right? It’s almost unbelievable that we’re related, but it is what it is, I guess.” “I’m not exactly thrilled about it either,” I responded, and like a child, she stuck her tongue out at me. “You have a sister,” Wren repeated like it was some odd phenomenon. “I do.” We held each other’s gazes for a moment before Blair loudly cleared her throat. “Wow, lovely, really touching moment you guys have going on here. Truly, but you guys have bigger problems.” Wren snapped her attention back to my sister, her forehead scrunching. “We do?” Blair nodded and handed Wren her phone. She scanned the screen, her eyes widening in disbelief “What the f**k?” Her eyes shot to me. “How did this happen?” I shrugged. “I’m just as clueless as you are.” Her next sentence was a string of nos’ followed by a final f**k. I’d expected her to be upset, but for some reason, it felt like I’d just watched her entire life fall apart. “We have to fix this.” She insisted, a wild desperation flashing in her eyes. “Fix it?” Blaire bounced her gaze between the two of us. “I’m so confused right now; I thought you guys were mates. Why would you want to fix this?” “We are,” I said. “But we wanted to keep it a secret until we were ready.” “Well, It’s too late for that. The school’s gossip handle posted the pictures hours ago, and other social media blogs have already started writing about them. Everyone who is anyone already knows the two of you are mates.” Panic settled across my mate’s features right before she stepped back and collapsed onto the couch. She’d wanted this to be a secret, and yet I failed to keep it so. “We’ll have it taken down,” I said, and my sister rolled her eyes. “Clearly, you have no idea how social media works if you think you’ll just wave your hands and have everything disappear.” Simply put, we were f****d. *dun dun dun* “I’ll sort it out.” My sister put her phone back in her bag and headed for the door. “You do that. In the meantime, I have a test to study for.” She shoved a finger at my chest. “You better figure out when you want to introduce her to the pack. It’s bad enough that I had to find out this way; imagine how Uncle will feel if you don’t tell him first.” Then she turned to my mate and offered one of her sweetest smiles. “It was lovely meeting you, Wren. Hopefully we get together again soon, yeah?”
