Forgotten daughter

CHAPTER 17 THE 47

-

*8:20PM. SUV.*

The email: `You just made 47 enemies.`

Kyle didn’t blink.

This is the man who was counting money for Vera at 7.

Who was running drops at 9.

Who took the throne at 18.

Number 1: “Boss. Black SUVs. Vera’s old plates.”

I opened Folder 3. 47 names.

Men who watched Kyle grow up.

*#1. CHIEF ADEWALE OKORO.*

The one who taught Kyle how to clean a gun at 8.

Now he wants to take what Kyle built.

My phone buzzed. Photo.

Auntie Katie’s back gate. 10 years ago. Night.

Caption: `We watched you leave with her, Ghost.

We’ve been waiting for you to matter.`

*8:25PM.*

Kyle pulled me to him.

“They think you’re my weakness,” he said against my hair.

“They’re right, Cassie. I think only of you.

At 7 I learned how to survive.

At 21 I learned what I’m surviving FOR.”

*8:30PM. NEWS.*

“Daniel and Clare Cole fled the country.”

Kyle’s jaw ticked.

“Clare sold you.

Michelle Group board is calling.

Let them wait. The streets come first.”

*8:35PM. SAFEHOUSE.*

He had two phones. One for Michelle Group. One for the underworld.

“Breathe, dearest,” he told me.

To Number 1: “All captains. All board members. 9PM.

Nobody sleeps tonight.”

“My grandmother’s 47,” he said. “They held my hand at 7.

They taught me at 11.

They forgot at 21 I’m the one giving orders now.

They think if they kill you, the boy breaks.

They don’t know the man was forged by Vera.”

I hit send on the email.

`To: All 47`

`Subject: YOU’RE NEXT`

`You had 10 years to touch me.

You didn’t.

Now I have 7 days.

Day 3 starts now.`

*8:40PM.*

Phone buzzed.

`“Wrong move, Ghost.

Check Auntie Katie’s house.”`

The air left the room.

Kyle stood. That 7-year-old killer and 21-year-old CEO in one body.

“Number 1.”

“Yes, Boss?”

“Auntie Katie’s. NOW.

And tell the 47...

If they wanted war,

they should’ve remembered who trained me.”

Day 3 wasn’t about surviving.

Day 3 was about a boy who started at 7

becoming the reason Lagos whispers his name.
