LUCAS’S POV The heavy oak door of the master suite didn't just close, it sealed. I stood in the center of the living room, the silence of the penthouse rushing back in to fill the void left by Ava’s exit. On the mahogany dining table, the tablet containing the falsified payment trail sat dark, a reminder of how close the blade had come to my neck. I walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window, looking out over a rain-slicked Manhattan.
