Salome’s POV “You should be careful, or you might actually go blind,” Jeremiah said. I snapped my head away from the morning sun, blinking back the sudden spots in my vision. My heart was hammering against my ribs. I hadn't heard him walk up behind me. The air around him felt heavy and warm, carrying the scent of sweat and something sharp that always seemed to follow him. He looked like he had just finished a hard run. His dark hair was pushed back from his forehead, and his damp shirt stuck to the muscles of his chest. I tried to keep my expression flat, even though my face felt like it was on fire. “Good morning,” I managed to say. I cleared my throat, desperate to sound professional. “The light caught me off guard. I felt a little dizzy for a second.” Jeremiah didn't look convinced
