fourMorning came suddenly, with birdsong just outside the window and the smell of baking wafting up from the first floor. Kim rolled over and nearly off the bed, but she managed to catch herself at the last second. She extricated herself from the tangle of blankets, threw on jeans and the same reasonably unwrinkled shirt from the day before, and headed for the door. Somehow, it was locked from the inside, the key placed prominently on the table beside the bed, where she couldn't possibly miss it.
