The right thing to do was retreat into my room but I couldn’t. I felt my chest tightening with what seemed like dread. Why was he avoiding me? Did I… did I do something? Were we back to square one? I debated about it for a few seconds and decided I wasn’t going to just be quiet. I took small hesitant steps toward Gideon’s room. And when I knocked once, it took several seconds for the door to open. Gideon stared down at me with a bit of surprise like he wasn’t expecting to see me there. Right in front of his room. “I… uhh… can I come in?” It was awkward all of a sudden between us. Gideon opened the door wider and I could feel my heart pounding fast as I stepped inside his room. It wasn’t my first time here but the dark and dull vibe of his room… which seemed depressing and lonely…
