Gideon’s pov.
I walked through the prison walls with my beta following behind me. He’d just arrived when he heard one of our close men had betrayed us. Originally, he was supposed to be on a honeymoon with his wife which was also a front so he could investigate uncle Soren without suspicion.
I’ve always had to fight to keep what was mine which was the way of our people. You’d have to be cruel, heartless, be able to instill fear in people to survive. It’s eat or be eaten so I’ve learned and I was not going to let myself be eaten.
“Here.” Blake told me as we stopped in front of a cell with cold iron bars. The traitor’s cell.
“Wilfred?” Blake called, shining a torch in the dark cell where the man was leaning against the wall. Already weak from torture.
“What do you want, Blake? Are you also here to do your round?” Wilfred said, sneering but he paused when the torch shifted and I came into view.
His expression twisted into fear and he backed farther into the wall as if doing that could somehow save him.
Funny how I’d once considered him a friend. Once, we’d eat and drink on the same table.
“A-alpha?” He lowered his head, his body already trembling.
“Alpha?” Blake chuckled. “I would’ve sworn you had a different Alpha the moment you decided to betray us.”
His lips pressed tightly. He didn’t say a word. As if forcing himself not to.
I took my notepad and wrote to him.
“Who is the one you were writing letters to?”
He shook his head, terrified, and I couldn’t tell if he was terrified of me or the mastermind. “It’s no one. It’s no one. I don’t know anything..”
My expression turned deadly and he gulped heavily when I took a step forward.
“My first thought when I first found out was to kill you but that’d be merciful.” My lips curled as I pulled back the notebook and continued to write. “Your family will pay the price of your betrayal. There’ll be no place for them in the pack. They’ll be exiled. Tell me, how long do you think they’ll survive if they become rogue wolves?”
Panic flickered across his eyes and he fell to his knees in front of me. The hard thump made Blake flinch behind me.
“Don’t do that to them, please.” He begged. “I was stupid, and greedy. I swear I only did it for the money.”
My fist clenched with rage. Money? The shadow pine pack was not poor. Everyone lived in comfort. I made sure they all lacked nothing and yet he is lying straight to my face. How greedy could he be?
“I’m telling the truth. Punish me. Kill me. But don’t touch them. They know nothing about this.”
I tried to control my itching fingers that wanted nothing but to pin him against that wall, and strangle him slowly until the life completely seeps out of him. He cared about his family so much but he tried to destroy the pack they called home?
Or was someone else trying to acquire it? Did he like the others, think I was not worthy of my position? That was the only logical reason to explain why he’d done what he did.
“You are an ungrateful bastard, Wilfred.” Blake spat. “I regret ever calling you a friend and for what you’ve done, I wish you would die a terrible death.”
Pain flickered across his face but he just looked at me with pleading eyes not to hurt his family. Not like I had it in my mind to do anything to them. I just wanted to torment him with that image in his mind.
“All you need to do is give me the identity of the mastermind and I will spare yoir family. If you keep on protecting them, then you’ll receive a bloody gift soon.”
I was sure he understood what I meant by that. I didn’t bother writing him another word or physically torturing him for information. That was the work of the guards. But he’d wished I had put a blade to his neck instead.
I left the prison walls in a foul mood. Blake folllwed silently to my office as we had a lot to discuss.
“There are others like Wilfred, I’m sure.” Blake said, gritting his teeth, feeling the same anger I felt that our close circle had been infiltrated and we knew nothing about it for so long.
“For now, we’ll let them be.” I wrote. “We’ll set up a trap when they least expect it and goddess helps them they fall into it. I don’t think I’ll be able to hold back.”
Blake sighed and provided a document for me. “The annual gala is coming up. We can make allies with these packs. I’ve studied them and I believe our goals are aligned.”
“Very good then. I’ll review them tonight.”
Blake nodded and I could see he has something to ask me but he changed his mind and casually asked. “How’s the Luna? I haven’t met her yet. But Kael told me something interesting about you two. Something about how she is your mate and—“
I threw him a glare and he gulped heavily before hurrying out of the office after making a face at me.
I sighed, trying not to think about Evelyn now that he mentioned her but I couldn’t manage that. She has been ignoring me for days now. And there was this tension that was always between us. The kind I didn’t know how to break.
Was she still mad about the kiss or was it something else?
There was a soft knock on the door and I looked up from the document immediately, wondering if it was her but a look of disappointment crossed my face when I saw it was Lila.
She walked in with a smile on her face and I couldn’t help but notice she was in her nightwear. A revealing thin piece of clothing that barely covered her.
“Brother Gideon?” She called sweetly as she approached.
I shifted my gaze back to the document in front of me, unable to hide the frown that’d formed on my face.
It was as obvious as day what she was here for and while I was not one tiny bit interested in her, it still pissed me off because I’d always seen her as a little sister. And now that she was doing this—
She walked behind the table, approaching me from behind. She placed her hands on my shoulders, seductively. And the moment she got close, I noticed a strong scent from her.
It immediately made me feel heady so I pushed her away, a cold expression in my gaze as I quickly wrote to her. “What do you want?”
“Isn’t it obvious?” She purred close to my ear. “I could tell you didn’t like that woman you married. I know you can’t even bring yourself to touch her so I decided to offer myself to you. I know you’ve always liked me, brother Gideon.”
She was wrong on all levels. First, it is her touch that I cannot stand. And I’ve dreamt of touching Evelyn so many times that it’s driving me crazy.
I pried her hands off of me and pushed her away but that scent— goddess— I didn’t know what cloying perfume she was wearing but it was terrible and wrong.
My body was beginning to grow hot. So much that I flicked open the buttons of my shirt and turned off the room heater.
Lila threw herself into my thighs, straddling me and that cloying scent made me realize what she’d done. She’d worn an aphrodisiac as a scent.
I pushed her away, throwing her a cold look that promised death of all kinds. She flinched, but didn’t look like she was ready to give up.
Heat pooled in my lower area and I groaned, swatting her hands away when she touched me again.
Angrily, I pushed my chair back and stood, grabbing her and dragging her to the door.
I was this close… this close to strangling her for daring to drug me. She still begged me to let her touch me, having no idea what danger she was in. How I struggled to control the rage beneath my veins. She dared to put her hands on me.
My wolf struggled to the surface and she cowered, finally feeling fear when she saw the change in my eyes and the threatening growl that rumbled in my chest.
I opened the door and threw her out but someone else was out there. Evelyn.
She was holding a stack of document, looking like she’d been about to knock. Her eyes first took in Lila’s almost naked body before she looked at me, lips pursed.
Without thinking, I drew her inside and shut the door, trapping her against the wall.
“G-Gideon?” Her voice shook. Soft yet so sweet, it only sent blood rushing to my c**k again.
She felt the hardness pressing into her thighs and froze, staring up at me with big glossy eyes.
The drug was beginning to cloud my brain, all of the self control and restraint I’d practiced against her disintegrated into nothing as I held her there, eyes dropping to her soft plump lips.
I knew she’d slap me for it. I knew what I was about to do was wrong but I still did it. I kissed her, claimed her lips hard with the hunger of a beast.
She tried to push me away but I didn’t let her. I pinned her hands behind her, one hand grabbing her waist to pull her body into mine as I kissed her roughly.
The need to touch her, dominate her, was driving me to madness.
She fought but gave up a while later, melting into my kiss, allowing me touch her.
My fingers slipped into her dress, breaching the corners of her underwear and I found her dripping wet for me. I pushed a finger inside her and the sound she made—
Fuck!
This woman… I knew instantly she’d be the death of me
