As the hunt continued, I realized that I’d ran out whatever luck I had in the beginning. It seemed Alex was done playing around with me. I couldn’t get close enough to injure him and yet I also couldn’t escape far enough from him. He was always cornering me, catching up to me and making me realize just how weak I was. It was clear as day that I was not his match. I was not even close. I was exhausted by now, from running around and hiding. I was bent over, trying to catch my breath when I heard the crunch of dried leaves behind me. I immediately straightened, turning around with my dagger in hand, ready to strike but Alex caught my arms easily, squeezing my wrist until my grip on the dagger loosened and it fell pathetically to the ground.
