2. Orson

I was getting back from the run feeling slightly calmer, when I spotted a group of warriors heading towards the woodsy path, I know my mother once upon a time lived on. They all had something they were carrying, a few had paper bags, others held some sticks or small logs, and I would lie if I said it hadn't spiked my interest. I stepped closer to them, wondering what was going on. "What's up guys? Whatcha got there?" - I asked, pointing at the bags. "Alpha." - one up front addressed me with a nod, and I internally cringed. The title was right, but I never thought I would dread it so much. It wasn't as prestigious as I would have hoped it'd be. For me, it was more of a barrier between me and my people, that made everyone tense whenever I was around. It felt like one day I was myself, just Orson, the guy they went to school and trained with, and the next I was someone different, that needed to be called by his title, and not by his name. That damn hierarchy, although justified by ranks, was too stuck-up for my liking. "Don't give me that s**t, Paul, we've lost our virginity with sisters, the least you could do is call me by my name." - I said, putting my hands on my hips. The guys chuckled, agreeing with nods. - "So what do you have there?" - I asked. "We're off duty, so we're having a little bonfire. You wanna join us?" - Paul said, and I grinned. "A party, huh? Count me in. Do you have enough drinks or should I dust off my bar?" - I asked. "Oh, we have more than enough, so if you're fine with our low-shelf whisky, we can go." I scratched my nose. "I'm more of a vodka or rum guy, but why the hell not? YOLO, right?" The six of them laughed and I followed them deeper into the forest. We found a small clearing and we started setting up a fire, bringing some bigger logs to sit on and, for the first time in a long while, I felt better in my own skin. We passed the bottle between us, talking about everything and nothing really, without anyone nagging me to deal with the matters that I didn't even want to touch. For once, I finally felt like myself, not this trapped animal I was forced to become. "Do you remember that wild party you threw our senior year?" - Paul asked, making everyone chuckle - "I think that's the reason why your father started getting gray hair." - he smirked my way. "Well, one of the trees caught on fire, so I don't really blame him." - I grinned, remembering that night. It was my eighteenth birthday and for some reason I thought that setting fireworks in the middle of the woodsy area was a good idea. "Aside from the near death experience, that was a night to remember." - Malcolm said fondly, taking out a joint from his pocket and bringing it to his mouth. - "You want some, for old times sake?" - he handed it to me and I shrugged, taking it from him and getting a puff. - "We could use more parties here. This place gets dull during winter." "You're right about that one." - I agreed, nodding. "Honestly, I thought this Pack would become an amusement park after you took over." - Paul chimed in and I snorted, looking down. "You and probably everyone else." - I admitted, reaching for the bottle and taking a swing before passing it to the next guy. "But seriously, we had no good party since you brought your Luna home, and even that one was a bit too much." - Paul's words made me look at him. "What do you mean?" "White linen tablecloths and color-coordinated flowers, that doesn't sound like the Orson VanWoert we all know." - he smirked, making me throw my head back and laugh. "Noted." - I nodded, thinking about the welcoming evening for Kimmy. It sure wasn't what I would do, but Kimmy scrunched her nose when I mentioned a simple barbecue, so just to make her happy I went with a white-collar party. - "Maybe we could put something together for Christmas." "You have like a week left, isn't that too little time?" - Malcolm asked with a frown, making my smirk widen. "You obviously don't know me." - I said smugly, and they started woo-hooing. "Alright, it sounds like a night I wouldn't want to miss. So I had better wash my good briefs." I laughed once again, wondering when was the last time I had so much fun. If my memory serves me well, before I took over. "You do that, pal." - I said, standing up - "I'll catch up with you later, boys." - I said before leaving the clearing and walking back towards the Pack House. Maybe that is what we all need to get this shitty gloomy atmosphere chased away. My phone pinged with a transfer notification and I frowned at the screen. "What the hell?" - I cussed to myself, dialing the number. He answered after the third ring and I immediately smiled hearing his thick accent. - "Have I blackouted again after we played poker online, or is there another reason why you're sending me a hundred k?" - I asked my cousin and my first response was booming laughter. "I was about to call you, but then Lettie came over with Rodin and I got distracted." - Igor said, sounding proud as hell, and I smiled. "How's my little nephew doing?" - I asked. "Perfect. He's a strong one, I tell ya, he will beat my father and me tenfold." "I'm sure he will, but I still think it's hard to tell with a one-month-old pup." "Nah. He's already a badass, I tell you the way he squeezed my finger yesterday. There's a true power in that boy." The tone of his voice was dripping with pride and, for anyone who doesn't know the great Igor Orlov well, it would be like an out-of-body experience. His image to the outside world is of a fearless man, with a sadistic smirk, that, when widening, can get you in trouble. But that's nothing, like a guy I know. Sure, he's a very dangerous man with the shortest temper I know, but his family life, the one he leads behind closed doors, is the one of a man who has it all. "I guess we would have to wait and see." - I said - "Listen, so what's the story about the cash?" "Oh right." - he said and just those two words made his voice sound irritated. - "I cut Cilia off, so that's the money for when she comes to visit you." "Cilia is coming to visit me?" - I frowned, hearing it. It's not that I have anything against Iggy's twin sister, she's actually the life of the party wherever she goes. But introducing her to Kimmy makes me want to groan, lock the door and tell her I'm not home. "Well, she doesn't have much of a choice. I canceled all her credit cards, leaving her with just the jet. So she can either see you, Dean, or anyone else or come back home, and after the words I just had with her, I don't think she's in a rush to see me." - he said flatly. "So you're sending your pissed-off twin to me? Gee, thanks for an honor." - I deadpanned, and the asshole laughed. "You can always tell her to go somewhere else, it's not like you're me, who has to deal with her." I sighed, feeling kind of bad for her. She and Igor hadn't gotten along for forever, so probably no one blames her for choosing traveling the world over spending her time in her brother's home watching his happy family life. "I would never do that, she's half VanWoert. So when should I expect her?" - I asked. "In two days. She's in Brazil right now, and since she's left with no more than cash in her Birkin, I don't expect her to last long on that." "You're an evil man." - I told him, shaking my head, noticing I'd already reached the Pack House. "Evil man, my ass. She spends ten million per continent, and I would very much like to leave something for my son." - he barked with exasperation. "It's not like you can't afford it." - I pointed out. "It's not like she can't get a job." - he said back. "You know that, technically, half of what you own should be hers, right?" "Well, let's then assume she has already spent it." I threw my head back and laughed. "Not even close, buddy, and you know it." - I said - "But fine, I'll take care of her. I was actually thinking of throwing a Christmas party for my Pack, and who's better to help me with it than Cilia." "You're gonna take that back when you're left with debt. But anyway, she's bringing some Markie guy with her." "Her f**k buddy?" - I asked. "I have no idea. She met him on the f*****g Antopodes." "And you're okay with her traveling with him?" - I'm not even sure why I asked, because as soon as I did, I could predict what Iggy's answer would be. "f**k if I care. If he knocks her up, I will at least force him to take her off my hair." "You two are the worst twins ever." - I chuckled. - "Anyway, don't worry about anything, I've got her." "Thanks, Orson. I owe you one." "Don't mention it. Say hi to Letti and my nephew." "Will do." - he said, disconnecting the call. I entered the Pack House and the clicking of utensils coming from the dining room told me it was time for dinner already, so without even thinking, I went there. Dave, Teddy and Kimmy were already eating and from the bits and pieces of their conversation I read that my mate was asking about their days. Teddy stopped talking when he noticed me and he turned my way. "We were supposed to have a sit down." - he said a bit accusingly, but I knew that even his meanest glare was always just meant half-heartedly, because this guy couldn't hold a grudge even if his life depended on it. "Sorry, I needed to clear my head. We could sit after dinner if you want." - I offered, going to the counter and throwing some chicken, baked potatoes and a salad on my plate. "Nope. You've missed your chance." - he said, smirking under his nose. I motioned for a knife being thrown at my heart and made a horrified face. "How am I going to survive that?!" - the guys laughed, but Kimmy just watched me, and I schooled myself to stop acting like a tool, which I knew she didn't like, and I went to take my seat. "We also haven't discussed visiting Night Walkers this Sunday." - Dave pointed out. I cleared my throat and glanced at Kimmy, who was completely unbothered, forking another slice of carrot on her plate. To be honest, I hoped she would maybe change her mind, but seeing how she wasn't rushing to fill the silence, I assume that's not going to happen. "Actually Kimmy and I can't go. I already sent Ellie a donation in our name. But you should go and support your sister." - I told my cousin and he nodded after a careful inspection of my face. "May I ask why aren't you going? It's unlike you to miss any family function." - Dave pointed out, and he was not wrong. There was a time I would be the first one to get to an event and the last one to leave it, or actually the last one to be carried out, but that's just semantics. However, unknowingly, Igor provided me with one hell of an excuse. "Cilia is coming." - I said, and all three of them gaped at me. Kimmy with her eyebrows raised high in confusion, and my second and third with surprised grins. "Really? Miss Orlov?" - Teddy asked with a hearts forming in his eyes. It was no secret that he had a small crush on my cousin, who never gave him the time of the day, but who wouldn't, Cilia grew up to be a real beauty, looking almost exactly like my Aunt when she was young. "Dude, she's six years your senior, and if I remember correctly, the last time she saw you she called you Theo." - Dave pointed out with a pitiful expression, making me chuckle at the memory. She was in Midnight Banes for a week last summer and no matter how many times we corrected her she just couldn't get Ted's name right. However, I think it was her subtle way of telling him she was not interested. "I could be a Theo." - my Beta claimed, catching on to the opportunity, making me and Dave snicker. "Teddy, as much as I like you, nothing good comes from messing with Cilia, so don't bother." - I said, shaking my head, and taking another bite into my mouth. "You two are no fun." - Teddy huffed - "Besides, weirder things happened, so who knows, maybe this time she'll notice me." "Let's hope she will. Buddy" - Dave said, clapping his back, and then looking at me with his lips rolled to stop himself from laughing. I glanced at Kimmy, who hadn't spoken a word since I broke the news and she looked annoyed. "Isn't it something we should talk about first?" - she asked, and right away my back straightened up, because I knew that tone. That was the tone she used when she was displeased, meaning I wouldn't be having any fun tonight, so I knew it quite well. "What's there to talk about? She's a family, she doesn't need an invitation." - I said bluntly, because that was one thing I wasn't about to give up on. My family is untouchable and no matter how much Kimmy doesn't get along with them, that's her problem. I can live with my trips to them cut in numbers, but if someone wants to come here, my doors would always stay open. "Well, when is she going to arrive?" - Kimmy asked. "Igor said she should be here in two days, so right in time when Dave leaves for the Night Walkers." "Oh man!" - my cousin whined, crossing his arms. - "But you will keep her here until I return, right?" "Yeah." - I nodded - "I actually thought she could help organize a Christmas party. We haven't had any proper celebrations in months. People need some fun." "But Christmas is in less than ten days, how are you going to pull that off?" - Kimmy asked, her voice going slightly high-pitched. "Don't worry about it." "It seems like you're making a lot of decisions lately." - she pointed out, and I hated how Dave and Teddy's heads went from one of us to the other as if they were at a tennis game. "And am I not allowed to?" - I asked in a low tone, setting my fork down, feeling my own irritation creeping onto me. "We should probably leave you two alone." - David said carefully, nudging Teddy to follow him out of the dining room, and I waited until their footsteps got quiet. "Okay, can you tell me what the hell is going on with you today?" - I asked her when I was sure the guys were far enough. "Nothing's wrong with me. But you said it yourself that this is just as much my home as it is yours, yet you didn't even take a moment to talk with me about your Cousin's visit or a party, but seeing your bloodshed eyes I see you had time for other things." - she said accusingly and I didn't know if I was feeling more like an Asshole for not talking with her first, or was I more angry. "This is your home. That's why if it were your relatives coming over I wouldn't say a word." - I said, trying to stay calm. She wasn't overly close with her family. I only ever met her parents once, when we were throwing her introduction party. "But that isn't how things should be done, Orson. I want to be included." "You are included!" - I said through clenched teeth. - "I got a call from Igor right before I came. Consider this as me including you." "But I don't even know that woman." - she folded her hands angrily - "And from what you guys say, she's not an easy cup of tea." "So?" - I asked. "So, it would make me really uncomfortable to host her here." I watched her for a moment, taking deep breaths. I don't understand where this is coming from. Okay, so we joked about how high-maintained Cilia is, but that's just us mocking our family, we do that all the time. "Kimmy, I'm gonna say it just once. My family is off limits. That's not even a subject I will entertain anymore. With the party, you're right. I should have talked with you first. But when it comes to my relatives, that's not even something I want to discuss, and I won't ever forbid them from coming here. But if you have a problem with it, maybe we…" I stopped myself before I said something I would regret later, and I almost high-fived myself for being that restrained for the first time in my life. But Kimmy's reddened from anger cheeks and heaving chest, said she wouldn't let that go. "Maybe we what?" - she urged me to say it. I looked at her for a moment, weighing my choices. I could brush it off and leave the table, running away from confrontation. Or, I could for a change admit I am f*****g miserable and having this all mating thing isn't working for me very well. I didn't want to be a family failure yet again, waving a white flag when things got tough. I would be the first one who called quits on my mate. But pushing all the things she does for the pack aside, it just isn't working. "Maybe we aren't the best match." - I finally said out loud the words I had been thinking about for a while now. Her eyes immediately started watering and I felt like the biggest jerk, immediately regretting causing her pain. The tears started falling down and she hid her eyes behind her hands and the bile in my throat rose even higher. I got off my seat and knelt beside her chair, putting one hand on her back, and with the other wiping the wetness beneath her eyes. Her hands immediately wrapped around my neck, bringing me close to a hug, and she wept in my shirt. "Tell me you don't really think that. We are mates." - she begged and I reciprocated her hug, gently rubbing her back, hoping it would help her. "I… It's just that I don't want to discuss my family again. I'm sorry if I hurt you." - I told her and she nodded. But the next thing I knew, her, salty from all the crying, lips found mine, while her hand fisted my shirt to keep me in place. I was so in shock that it took me a moment to reciprocate the kiss. Kimmy almost never initiated anything. She would usually kiss my cheek in the morning and after dinner, especially if the guys were there. If they were not, she could even skip the last part. But to start a make-out session, that was new. She slid from her seat, right on my lap, deepening the kiss and I snapped, taking over. My tongue entered her mouth and it was like a wake up call for my devoid of female companionship c**k. Kimmy moved her head to the side deepening the kiss and moaned into my mouth and I started wondering how we had gone from arguing to this. But my thoughts quickly vanished when she started moving her hips against my shaft. "Tell me you didn't mean what you said." - she said against my skin, kissing my jaw, and I growled approvingly. "I didn't mean it." - I said, because at this point I would tell her whatever the hell she wanted if it would take me to the home base. "Take me to your room." - she whispered, and I didn't need to be told twice. I picked her up in my arms, and I almost ran towards my bedroom. Almost, because I didn't want to come off as desperate. Kicking the door behind us shut, I rushed to my bed, and deposited her safely on the bed. She, however, stood up and turned her back to me. "Unzip." - she said, pushing her blonde locks to the side, showing me her dress zipper. I did as she asked, probably too fast to make the moment seem romantic, but it was three or four weeks since she was in my bed and I was in need to feel her fast. My hands were all too eager to take off her bra and slip her panties down her long legs. And when my face was at the level of her p***y I just couldn't help myself, I had to taste her, so I moved my tongue down her slit, making her gasp and bend over to give me better access. I tongue f****d her until I felt she was getting there and that's when I pushed my finger in. Her moans became louder, until she started tightening around my finger, making it almost impossible to move, and finally she came hard riding on her wave. I bit on her ass before standing up and I opened my pants, allowing them to fall to the ground before I entered her. She was still tight from her previous o****m and her warmth almost made me go feral. It had been so long since my c**k touched anything aside from my own hand that it felt like he developed a mind and willpower on his own, slamming into her one time after the other, chasing my own release. "Orson, I'm close." - she panted and I kissed her shoulder, hoping this was finally the breakthrough in our relationship we needed. "I know, baby. Me too." - I told her, and she pushed her ass even harder towards me, making me gain up the speed. The only things that could be heard in the room were our ragged breaths and my balls slapping her ass over and over again. I moved my hand to the front and teased her clit, moving her head with my finger to claim her lips. She shuddered in my hold, moaning loudly, and I felt her p***y pulsating on my c**k, making me come right with her, like a f*****g teenager. I wasn't about to end it right there. If I had her here in the bedroom we should have both shared, I wasn't going to let her off the hook that easily. After the first quick round came a second, slower one under the sheets and two in the shower when I first cleaned her, ate her and then f****d her all over again. By the time we got back to bed, I was ready to sleep like a baby, with my d**k humming content and my ball sack empty. Maybe that's all she needed, a little push to have this thing between us finally rolling over the right tracks. That night she fell asleep in my arms. Or at least I fell asleep holding her. But as soon as the morning came and the first rays of the sun woke me up, I opened my eyes to an empty and cold bed. So we're back to square one.
