“You want this one?” Nakia held up the oatmeal raisin. “I am suspicious. You rejected it immediately.” “Duh. It’s got raisins. Gross.” Rohn gave the cookie a dubious glance and grabbed another from the plate, snickerdoodle by the looks of it. With an experimental nibble, he nodded. Nakia spent too much time focusing on his tongue and lips before realizing that he said something. “Any progress on locating your family?” Nakia took her time replying, shoving another cookie in her mouth, this one peanut butter. “I dunno. Maybe.” A social worker visited Nakia once, after her surgery, and they partially registered her information into the system.
