Next person that comes into his head is his best friend. He dials his number and places a call immediately. Edoardo picks the call this time around.
He moves straight to the point, he wouldn't love to miss his opportunity as he has always helped him.
"I'm in the cops custody. I just got a chance to speak with you now. I wanted you to help me with three hundred dollars for my bail. I'll pay you back after getting my salary."
"How much do you earn that you are talking of paying back?" By his tone, he detects that he is mocking him. His tone has some sarcasm in it.
Though knowing this, there is nothing he can do because he wants to get the money.
"Perhaps I need to walk over to the werecops headquarters to see what's happening over there. I don't trust you, you might be lying."
This hurts Cameron so badly, he didn't believe that his best friend could join the gang to deride him. Tears want to come out from his eyes but he remembers that he is a man and holds it back.
I want to be strong!
He returns to the Chief of the were cops, the Superintendent’s office.
"Please be patient sir, I'm trying my best to arrange for the money so I can pay you."
The Superintendent only raises his face, gives him a stern look before lowering it into his computer.
"I don't need you to tell me that. Maybe you want to ask questions or say some insignificant things, meet with my PA, Sergeant Mike. I don't have the time for that."
He points to the medium office at the right.
"Thank you, sir." He bows and leaves, feeling that the Superintendent saw him as too low to talk with, of course he feels.
Edoardo arrives later and is directed to the room Cameron is staying in. Seeing him, he rises up to come greet him, delighted that help has come.
"Good afternoon, sir." Usually, he addresses him as Edoardo, but his present condition causes him to address him as sir to please him, even when he doesn't feel comfortable with it.
"Here is the money," he hands the money, three notes of a hundred dollars each to Cameron who gets it from him with a grateful smile.
"I'm indeed grateful. Thanks so much!" His eyes shine with delight, his lips refuse to close as a smile seems to be permanently embedded in it.
"Don't worry, I'll return it once I'm paid." He says.
"I don't think that's necessary." Edoardo's face becomes a bit serious. "How much are you paid in a month that you should be paying me back three hundred dollars?"
At this point, he doesn't care whether this is a mockery or not so far as he has gotten what he needed and wouldn't have to pay back.
He rushes over to the Superintendent's office. He remembers that he told him to come only when he got the money.
"Sir, here is the money." He hands over the money to him. He takes it and makes a call to one of his officers.
"Inspector Peter, cancel Cameron Galchev from the list of individuals in custody and sign the bail certificate for him. He's now released as he has paid the bail fee."
Just this statement and Cameron is released. Cameron is happy to be out of jail. He can now reunite with his family, even when they didn't agree to help him. He walks to the waiting room from where he will be going home only to find his mate and her mother standing with Edoardo. They were talking in low tones.
"Why are you guys so heartless," he storms into their midst. His gaze focuses on Mila and her mom, they return his gaze with the deadliest of glares Cameron has ever received from anyone that he shrieks in fear.
"You have the audacity to question us, you poor man." Paisley hissed, she strikes him on the face with her fist, as her daughter told her to leave him. Cameron is confused with his mate's gesture which sometimes ends up in something worse. He just prays it wouldn't be like that this time around.
"You aren't even grateful for what your friend has done." Mila says in a low tone. He wants to tell her that he had already thanked Edoardo, when she continued, blocking his chance saying something. "The first word that should be coming out of your mouth should be that of Thanks." She smirks, shrugging his shoulders at him.
"I did that already!" He manages to reply.
"What did you do?" Paisley asks with sarcasm embedded in her tone.
"Do you expect us to thank Edoardo for you? Is that what you want?" She raises her voice at him, bringing her face closer to his in a fierce challenge. "I could hear you begging Edoardo while you needed the money, now you have gotten it, you have forgotten gratitude." She makes a gesture of spatting at him.
"What a useless man you are!" She says to him. Then turning to her daughter, "I've told you not to marry this man, he is worthless and not good for you."
"He wouldn't stop disgracing you with his mannerless attitudes. You can see his true nature now."
Edoardo, who is standing behind him, laughs. Cameron happens to catch him and he immediately keeps a serious face.
"I thought you were a friend but here you are laughing at my back. "
Paisley hits him on the back. "You still have the mouth to talk to someone that helped you?" She makes a gesture of spanking him on the face.
"If I was Edoardo, I wouldn't stop at slapping you." Mila utters which shatters the small piece of confidence left in him.
"I just want you to do me a favor, darling." Paisley says to her daughter.
"What's that mom?" She asks.
"I want you to divorce him this week, after you do this, we will go and seek some help from my family which we will use to start up a better life. I thought he would be killed by the mob so you can be finally freed from him but he survived.”
At this, Mila shifts back nearly stumbling. “Mom, you organized this?”
Paisley chuckles. “Don't worry, you will find a much better man to marry, not this useless trash that calls himself a husband."
“ Why would you do that mom? Has it reached that level?” Her face is deadly serious, her tone as well showing that she is startled by what her mom just said.
“I can't believe this!” Cameron shivers, jaw dropped. He never knew his mother-in-law hated him up to the point of staging an attack against him, demanding his death.
