Chapter 2: You're fired

1400 Words
At Grande Group, everyone is busy working, including Sheila, Gideon's college friend and now his secretary in the company. Sheila was managing the staff at the moment as they researched a concept for greater empathizing with their work. She was busy commanding their associates when suddenly Gideon passed by, who seemed to be in a hurry. Everyone stood up to greet him but he ignored them and went straight to his office. Sheila frowned because she noticed that her boss didn't seem to be in the mood this morning. "I'll get your work later, and please remember to highlight the best headline," she says as she walks chasing Gideon to his office. When she knocked on the door, Gideon let her in. He was signing documents on his table. "Gideon, I'm particularly stressed this morning since our staff didn't work properly, and how many times have I instructed them to highlight and emphasize their work?" she grumbled. Gideon, on the other hand, refused. Instead, he still signed the papers. Sheila got bored, "As always, you didn't talk to me when it's not important," she said while putting up her hands in the air. "Did you come here only to tell me that?" he asked. “As you can see, I’m busy right here cause I’m f*****g late this morning.” Gideon said coldly, not even looking at her. Sheila, on the one hand, was surprised. Widened her eyes. "Well, Mr. Grande, I just wanted to share it with you because you are the CEO of this organization." Gideon shook his head and put down his pen. He looked at Sheila, narrowing. "Just do your job, Sheila, and I'll get you a meeting with them after this," he added. Sheila sighed, rolling her eyes. "Alright, and just to refresh your memory. The company will be celebrating its 20th anniversary next week, " she added. "Please incorporate that in the meeting later," Gideon thought. ‘’You can leave." He ordered. Gideon was always chilly to her, and he didn't even notice her seductive clothing today. She looked back at Gideon, who was busy signing the documents on the table. She rolled her eyes and left the office. ----- "Sorry, Ma'am, I will replace your order now," Jodi said as she was about to take a lady's order. "Are you the one who took care of me again? Well, last time you didn't do your job, and now you haven't done well again!" the lady yelled at Jodi. Jodi simply nodded and began to apologize, but the lady didn't say anything until the manager arrived and asked what was happening. The woman smiled at the manager. “Good day Manager, this waitress of yours here didn't do her job well again. It looks like you already know what you should do with such people.” she explained, but the anger towards Jodi was still obvious in her expression. Jodi felt nervous and quickly apologized to the woman, "Ma'am, I have apologized and it won't happen again." She bowed her head. The manager looked at Jodi with disappointment on his face. ''Jodi, we've talked about this before.” he sighed “I'm sorry, but I gave you a chance. First you are late today and now you’re doing such a thing.” he paused. “So I have to fire you, now, " said the manager to Jodi. Jodi was almost stabbed in the chest because of what her manager said. ''Sir, I-I need this job. Please don't fire me," Jodi begged. "I'm sorry Jodi. Fix your things and I'll give you your month's salary." The manager replied. He apologized to the lady and then returned to his job. She was disappointed, she almost got weak as she sat down on the free chair. She couldn't control the tears falling down on her cheek, so she wiped them away. Without a second thought, she continued to wipe the table before leaving that place. . . . . . . . . . "We really have a problem." Sam quickly told Gideon when he went to his office. Gideon frowned, he was surprised at his Uncle's rush to his office. "What was that?" he asked. Sam sat down on the sofa near Gideon's table before he spoke. "Your Dad ordered someone to arrange all the paperwork here at the company, so that the name can be transferred to your older brother Guino immediately." "What?" Sam sighed. "It happened suddenly, Gideon. You need to act before everything goes to court.” Gideon's facial expression suddenly changed when his Uncle told him. He could only think of one thing. His older brother can't get it because, first of all, Guino left them, losing their business. Now that he has grown everything and is even the top publisher in the United Nations, they want to take it back. He will not let that happen. Gideon stood up. "I need to talk with my personal lawyer right now," he said emphatically. Sam didn't say a word but he agreed to Gideon's orders. Because even he can't accept that Guino would inherit the business, especially since it had many bad records when he was in charge of the Grande Group that he and Gideon handled for many years. _________ When Jodie returned home, she leaned down on the couch. Her brother spotted her and immediately began massaging her back. "It appears your boss kicked you today," Jake joked as he massaged his sister's back. Jodie frowned, "How did you find out?'' "Well, you constantly speak about him," he said as he sat down next to her. "It's a good thing you're not going to work at that restaurant, Jodie." "And what about our everyday expenses? How am I going to pay for this apartment and your medication?" she laments. Jake, it turns out, is also unhappy. “I don’t know either.” Jodie sighed and looked at her brother. "Don't be sad, little lion; I'll find a solution," she murmured, scratching her brother's hair. Jake stopped when he saw the wound on his older sister's knee. "What happened?" he asked. “There is this woman who is blamed at work, so my manager doesn’t have a choice but to fire me—” “---No, I’m talking about your wound.” Jodi looked at her knees, she suddenly remembered the first reason for her unlucky day today. She was also suddenly annoyed by remembering an arrogant man who bumped into her. She exhaled a sigh. "Yeah, I've had one bad luck after another, Jake." she straightened up in her seat. "But if that rude man hadn't bumped into me, I wouldn't have increased my bad records against my boss, I wouldn't have been fired from my job. And…” she suddenly felt sad. “I shouldn't have been late for my appointment for your free medication." she went on. Even her brother's medication was affected by her unlucky day. Jake's face showed pity for his older sister. He got closer to Jodi and rested his head on her shoulder. "Everything will be fine, Jodi. You know, there is an angel who will come into our lives to save us." Jake's words made Jodi smile. She knows that her brother still hopes that their lives will be better, that there is an angel who will save them from poverty. Even though she knew to herself that she didn't know where to find that angel. "I can be an angel to save you, right?" Jodi asked her brother with a smile. Jake smiled and looked at her. "You're already an angel." and then he hugged Jodi to express his support. Jodi was moved to tears by her brother’s response. She knows that she is still not giving everything to his needs, but due to the early loss of their parents, they have become a support to each other. And Jodi is willing to gamble everything she has to make her brother's life better. "Wait–” Jake stopped the drama between the two of them. “Why don't you look for a publisher for your book?" Jodie was surprised. She never expected that her youngest brother would talk about her dream. "Do you believe this is a favorable opportunity for me?" she asked. "We'll, if you don't try, we'll never know." Jake said with a wink. Then Jodi suddenly thinks about it.
