Chapter 8

1678 Words
Walking into the casino, I notice more than yesterday. It is so light, airy, and inviting. It has a homey feeling to it. All of the slots and gaming tables are not smashed together. People have room to move. they are not piled on top of one another like in many casinos you see. There are nice sitting areas set up where people can gather and have their card games where a dealer is provided for them. I am guessing these are high rollers. My ass couldn't afford to take a seat in one of those plush chairs. Jason takes my arm and leads me to the stairs. I realize that his driver is still with us. He is a tall man with very broad shoulders. Usually, he is bent down opening the door of the limo for us. I never really took in the stature of the man before. Now I am wondering if the driver is also a personal bodyguard. With each step, I want to faint. Jason holds my arm tightly as my legs try to give out on me. "Do not be afraid Jennifer, I am here with you and so is Rex. The drivers' name is Rex. If those four are as big as the two that manhandled me yesterday than we are no match for them. I will not admit this out loud but, I am terrified of what is going to happen next. When we get to the double doors I stop Jason for a moment. Taking a very deep breath, centering myself, remembering what my friend looked like, and saying a little prayer that this is not the last place I will ever see again in my lifetime. My hands turn into fists as I let the anger rise knowing that the men that thought it was fun to beat and rape my friend are just on the other side. Looking up to Jason, then to Rex, I nod letting them know I am ready to go in and face whatever is to become of me. Jason opens the door and my jaw drops, there are not just four of them in there, There are nine. Jason leans in close to me, "I didn't know which four did it. These are the ones on duty the night before last. We will find out which it was and deal with them." His thumb rubs my arm as reassurance I guess. This just terrifies me even more. Nine gigantic, complete rock-solid muscle walls standing around his office. He leads me to the chair behind his desk and then walks around to the front half sitting on the edge. Rex stands behind me. Each goon acknowledges their employer. He says hello to each one. "Alright men, settle. We have an issue that needs to be addressed and solved right now, today. After today, if I hear of anything even remotely close to this happening again there will be heavy consequences to be paid. That does not mean that this is a warning. The ones accountable for their actions will be dealt with today. The actions taken will be up to how you react and if you are in any way remorseful for what you have done." Jason looks back at me. I don't know what he wants and then it hits me. I take out my phone and pull up the pictures I took of Shawna. Clearing my throat, I take the lead. This is mine. I hold out the picture of Shawna's beaten upper body, "The night before last, this woman was a patron of this establishment. She ran out of money. All of you know that she isn't a rich woman, I mean come on, you can see by the clothes she was wearing, extended her a line of credit. When she lost that also, four of you took it upon your selves to decide that she would repay that line of credit by beating and raping her so badly that she is now kept unconscious with broken ribs, fractures, severe sprains and deep tissue bruising to her face, neck, body and her v****a was so torn and bruised that it had to be sewn back together. Which four of you was it?" My voice broke many times even though I was trying my damnedest speak with purpose and conviction.  Putting down my phone, I look to Jason who nods at me, letting me know that I did well. I hear a chuckle from the back. Jason's head snaps back toward the men, "Who is this little nobody cunt and why is she showing us so hookers photo. That broad wanted it and she begged for more. Boss, are you going to let this trash talk to us this way?" His gruff voice makes me cringe. Jason stands, "Axel, I take it you were one of the men that did this to that woman. And this 'cunt' as you so call her will be addressed as Miss Blake. She will be shown nothing but the utmost respect by every single one of you. If you do not like it, the door is right there. Who else was with you Axel?" Well, he didn't throw me to the dogs. I move my finger from the button under his desk. "HA, it was me Moe, Jose, and Ronnie. She comes in at least twice a month and gets her little line of credit and we get out rocks off. What's the problem with that?" This jackass actually thinks this is funny. "For one, a line of credit is cash which is to be paid back in cash. If the money cannot be paid back, collateral is taken. By collateral, I mean a car, a house, jewelry. NOT a person. You have no right to touch any of my patrons in that manner. Who permitted you to handle things this way? Tell me NOW!" You can see the veins popping out in Jason's neck. He finally feels my frustration. "This is the way we have been handling things for years, No one permitted us. WE decided that if you weren't going to be here to take care of business we would do it our way." A few of the guys laugh, I see three in the back high five. I want to puke. They have been doing this for years. How many other women have they done this to? How many have they killed by either beating them too hard or the woman committing suicide because she could not live with what had happened to her? "You are all fired. You have five minutes to get out of this building and one hour to evacuate this town. If I find out later today that you are still here you will be arrested and there will be rape, assault, and battery charges for you to answer." His voice is disgusted. The look on his face is distraught. "You can't do that!"Axel yells and the others agree. "I can and I f*****g will. Do not test me! I took amazing care of you all and this is how you repay me? No one pays as I do. No one gives out bonuses as I do. I believed that this was one of the casinos I didn't have to worry about. That you guys had my back and took good care of the place. To find out that this is how just appalls me. You all disgust me and if I have to see your faces again it will be the last time, that I can promise you. MOVE NOW!" Jason's face turns red when he yells. All of the veins stick out so far they look as if they could burst. These nine men looked scared for a moment. They hurried out the door. Rex moves quickly to follow the nine men to make sure they go right out of the building. Jason collapses onto the edge of the desk. Like lightning, I am there with him in my arms, "I am so sorry Jennifer." It sounds as if he is crying. He will not lift his face from my chest. "Shhh, it is alright Jason, you didn't know. How could you? They dd a really good job hiding it from you." Resting my chin on top of his head, I rub his back. He shudders a little which lets me know he is crying. This is something that I am positive he has done in front of no one else ever. "You just have to figure out what to do now. There is no security here. That is a must. People need to feel safe here." He looks up at me, his face red, eyes wet, "Rex knows what to do. We have an agency to call, they will send over some temps right away. I'm sure he has already called them and he is at the front door keeping watch. He is a good man." Jason stares into my eyes for a moment until he realizes that I have just seen him cry, He pulls away from me and heads to his private bathroom shutting the door. Looking around his office, I find my coveralls on a chair in the corner. Totally forgot that my wallet was inside of them also. Thank goodness no one went through them. I am not sure anyone comes in here when Jason is not around. I fold them up and wait another ten minutes for Jason to come out of the bathroom. When he doesn't, I knock on the door, "Hey, I am gonna get going. It is almost three and I would like to be home when Doc gets there. Thank you, Jason. You have no idea what you've done for us." No sound comes from the other side of the door. I lay my hand on it, whispering thank you again and head out of there. This has been one hell of a day. Maybe Doc has something for me in his little black bag too.
