Nerves are starting to come on strong as the last whistle of the day blows. Walking to my locker, my hands start to shake. Barely being able to hold the lock on my locker to get the combination in my hands are shaking so bad. Chad walks up and takes it from me. All he does is smile and get the lock off. Once open, I take off my hardhat, safety glasses, and other personal protection stuff and shove it in. Slamming it shut, I gain this newfound determination, my head is held high and I start walking out of the building. Chad sees me and puts his fist out. I pound it hard and walk out to my car.
Pulling out of the parking lot, I decide to give Shawna a call to see how she is doing,
“Hello.” Her voice still sounds weak.
“How is ya doing honey?” It can’t help the sadness in my voice.
“My body feels like it’s been hit by a truck. My lady parts just throb. Guess I’m just glad they stayed away from my pert little starfish.” She tries to laugh but cries out in pain instead.
“Stop trying to make jokes. I think you have some broken ribs.” Scolding her isn’t what she needs, but it is.
“Yeah, I think so too. When are you going to be home?” She knows I'm off work.
“In a few hours hopefully. Got some things I need to take care of.” Trying hard to hide what I am about to go do.
“Jennifer Ann! Do not go there! You hear me! Don’t you dare go there!” She is trying so hard to yell at me. You can hear her crying from the pain of it all.
“Shawna, you rest. I will take care of the rest. I love you” I said it quickly and hung up before she could protest anymore.
It took no time to get to the casino. I sat parked in the lot for what seemed like forever but in all actuality was only five minutes. The butterflies in my stomach were gigantic now and my hands were shaking so hard. I am terrified! His limo is parked right out front, so he is here. Many limos are waiting in the horseshoe drive out in the front of the casino. His sticks out from all the rest. It is not a limo for hire. It is his ride. Knowing what he can do to me, why am I going through all these heroics? Pulling up the pictures I took of Shawna's body and face this morning clarifies this for me. Whatever is done to me is nothing of what will happen to him. I will make sure of that. My voice is loud and will travel far and wide. This man will be on every evening news channel across the country.
Getting out of my car, I took a few deep breaths of the cool afternoon air and headed for the front doors. This is crazy. I am insane for doing this! Once again, I saw a picture as my phone swung up with my arm as I walked reminding me why. My feet began to move faster. Looking down at my steel-toe booted feet thinking ‘Who asked you to get in there faster?’. It is my mission to die today. Passing through the front doors the first thing I notice is the wonderful and inviting smell. Looking around, the place is bright, airy, colorful and has intriguing wall art. This is nothing like the image Shawna had placed in my head. I feel way underdressed now. As I walk through, I start to notice the big burly grunts wearing security shirts with smirks on their faces. Can’t help but wonder which have had their hands-on Shawna and which just watched. We need to find out where the boss man hides out to watch over his kingdom. Keeping my eyes upwards, I finally see the corner that bulges out and is all mirrors. Must be the office. Now, how do I get up there?
Moving towards the cashiers I see a spiral set of stairs that have a ‘No Entry’ sign chained across the bottom step. Yeah, I am entering. Dipping down and sliding underneath the chain, I start up the stairs staying low so hopefully, no one sees me. A small hallway at the top leads to a set of double doors and two very large men that notice me immediately.
“Hey there honey, you don’t belong up here. Be on your way.” The one says with authority.
“I need to see the man. It is important.” Holding my head high, I reply with confidence forgetting that I am a frigging mess. Still in my coveralls and my face is probably dirty where my safety glasses didn't cover.
“Bossman doesn’t see, scrawny, dirty little pieces of s**t like you.” The other looks me up and down laughing at my appearance.
“I don’t care who you think the boss man sees and doesn’t. I need to see him NOW.” Raising my voice at the end of my sentence expressing my urgency.
One of them starts coming towards me, “Listen, little girl, you don’t belong here. Don’t make me get forceful with you.” His tone is strong and loud.
The double doors fly open and a man stands there. I cannot see him through the two large men. “What the hell is going on out here?” His voice was like rubbing my naked body against velvet.
“This little b***h snuck her way up here demanding to see you.” The one gabs my arm hard making my knees buckle, a small scream leaves my lips.
“Little b***h? Let go of her right now! Can’t you see you're hurting her?” He advances towards his grunt and removes his hand from my arm, extending the other out to me in the attempt to help me up.
My eyes look up and lock with his. They are the most beautiful ocean blue I’ve ever seen. I am mesmerized by them. “Oh, uh, Thank you,” I say taking his hand getting back to my feet and steady once again only leaving his eyes for a moment to give the big asshole a dirty look.
“I am so sorry about that ma’am. Please, come into my office and let me know what it is that you needed to discuss with me.” Never letting go of my hand, it is strong, soft and well-manicured, he leads me into his office, not once breaking eye contact with me, pushing the two men aside so we can get through. He then closes the doors behind us. “Have a seat.” He gestures to a plush chair by a large mahogany desk, “I am truly sorry for their behavior Mrs.?” He looks to me waiting for a name.
“Oh, Miss. Well, just Jennifer is fine.” He hands me a glass of water and goes to sit in the elaborate chair behind the desk.
“It is a pleasure to meet you, Miss Jennifer. I am Jason Joens, owner, and proprietor of this establishment. What is it that I can do for you? Would you like to use the facilities to wash up a bit? Seems you came straight here from work. This must be something very important.” Why is this brute so unbelievably nice? Did I just enter another reality?
Looking down at my hands it hits me that I must look a wreck! Oh my God! I am sitting in front of this man that is the most amazing thing I’ve seen in years and I am Cinderella! His dark hair perfectly mussed, his suit pressed, his tie matches to perfection, just the right amount of stubble on his face and those eyes, a girl could get lost for hours in those eyes. f**k! “Yes, please, if you don’t mind,” I said demurely.
He stands and comes over to me putting out his hand. I take it gently and stand. He leads me to the other side of his office and opens a door to a very large bathroom that is fully equipped with a shower and all. “Use whatever you need. I will be right here when you are finished.” He then smiles and I believe my panties melted right off my body. When he lets go of my hand, I fully expect him to take out a handkerchief and start rubbing away because my hands are disgusting. He does not. He just lowers it to his side, does a slight bow and turns to go back to his desk. Who is this man and where did he come from?
Hurrying to the mirror I want to scream when I see myself. I look like a raccoon! There are washcloths and soaps, moisturizers, razors, everything a hotel bathroom would have plus more. Well, if you stay in the luxury suite these are probably things you would see. I’ve never been one that could afford to stay in the swanky rooms. Peeling off my coveralls, I start to wash my face, hands, and arms. Removing my hair tie and combed through it a bit trying to make it look better but all that did was make it frizzy, so I threw it back up in the bun with some loose strands hanging down. That is alright, I guess. Standing there looking in a full-length mirror wearing my stretch pants, a t-shirt, my dirty steel-toe boots, and messy hair while this Adonis of a man is waiting for me outside that door. What am I doing? He has made me forget the whole reason I am here. Shawna.
