reader's Break

367 Words
They say emotions cannot be bought or sold, but they are. Lillian is an innocent girl, while Jungkook is a narcissistic man. In reality, it was easy for him to ensnare her. Your primary driver is that thirst for tenderness and love you never received from your parents; thus, you cling to the first person who gives you a shred of attention, falling into a pattern of morbid attachment. Even if a person isn't naturally narcissistic, you might make them one. Because when you receive a little of what you’ve been missing, you begin to give back tenfold to the one providing it, simply because you are "deprived." You sell your deep, authentic emotions just to buy a few of someone else's superficial feelings. It’s not because you lack emotion, but because you’ve never truly had them. It’s as if you’re selling gold for copper, just because you’ve never seen the glint of copper before. You might not believe me, but dear reader—and I don’t know why I call you "dear" when I don’t even know you; perhaps I’m seeking some closeness between us, or maybe I’m just looking for engagement—anyway, what I wanted to say is this: when you look at your life a certain time ago (and I suspect it wasn’t that long ago, if not the present moment), don’t you see how someone gave you attention, and the moment you saw the candlelight, you ran toward it? Instead of searching for the sunlight behind the closed doors that stayed shut since your childhood—doors you assumed would never open—you ran toward that candlelight. And when you reached it, did it go out? And here, I’m not really talking about a candle. In fact, the candle didn't go out because it flickered away; it went out because the one who lit it realized your desperate need for it to find your way through the darkness you’ve planted yourself in since childhood. We return to the question this text revolves around after all this talk... Does the fault lie with the one who exploited the hunger? Or with the one who accepted the poison because they were starving?
