Jungkook witnessed the situation and laughed loudly: "Oh, what a poor girl you are!" he said through his laughter. "Alright, that’s enough for today, little bird."
He extended his hand, touching the glass of the screen where her face had appeared moments ago; his features relaxed slightly despite his cunning: "This marriage won't be so bad.. here I am, enjoying myself," he said to himself in the room empty of everything except the screens. He turned off the camera with a click.
The boy had returned to his place at the door.
Jungkook stretched before walking out indifferently: "Back to your work, but don't let me hear that you entered my wife’s room camera, because I will kill you." Jungkook warned the boy, his voice leaving no room for doubt.
The boy nodded respectfully: "I swear to you, Mr. Jeon, I do not enter it."
Jungkook: "Good, not even by mistake; mistakes are forbidden regarding this matter."
The boy: "Understood, sir."
................................................................................................................................................
With that, Jungkook returned to his bedroom, wanting to sleep and rest from the work pressure that was exhausting him. The boy entered the surveillance room to continue his work.
Jungkook laid himself in his bed, her scent lingering in its place; he found himself thinking of her and smiling: "She really is something amusing, like a game of cat and mouse," he said, placing his hands behind his head casually.
And so, Jungkook drifted into unconsciousness; he fell asleep thinking of her actions.
For the first time in his life, the mafia leader wasn't thinking about deals or blowing heads off; his thoughts were peaceful, reflecting his state; even though they involved chasing her, it was a pleasant pursuit for him.
In her room, she was still trembling under the covers after the boy had left.
"I think he’s gone," she said in a faint voice. "Is it possible he left me to sleep?
That’s good, I hope he forgets the whole thing." She remained thinking like this, feeling disturbed.
Her eyelids wrinkled slightly until she fell asleep; she closed her eyes quietly, and her fearful wrinkles disappeared, replaced by a sense of peace.
Silence settled over the palace; there were only the sounds of the servants' tools and a little low humming.
Two hours later, Lilian got out of her bed; the sun had become vertical.
She had dreamed.. of Jungkook! Of course she would dream of him, who else would she dream of? How he would corner her.
Lilian woke up, her limbs cold from the remnants of the dream; she could still feel his presence somewhere around her; she looked around searching for him with hysterical movements, scanning the room, but she was alone.
Unable to stay any longer, she lifted herself from the bed and went out: "Enarin, where are you?" she called out in a stifled voice.
Enarin answered immediately: "Yes, my lady, I am here."
Lilian: "Where is the President?"
Enarin: "He is in his room sleeping."
Lilian: "Did he not ask about me? Did he look for me?"
Enarin: "No, he is just tired from his work and went to sleep."
Lilian: "Fine, thank you."
Enarin: "You're welcome, miss, but I want to tell you; Mr. Jeon forbids anyone from entering his room, I hope you don't enter again."
Lilian nodded her head: "Fine, I won't enter, leave now."
"Your command, my lady."
........................................................................
Enarin left, and Lilian remained standing alone in the hallway, thinking about her punishment.
Why did he sleep?
Does he want to delay my punishment and make it bigger?
Why doesn't he talk to me?
Was it wrong of me to pretend to be asleep?
What kind of punishment awaits me, oh God?
She put her hand through her hair several times, unable to endure it; she felt a stomach upset from overthinking.
In a final movement, she walked toward his room, wanting to see what was wrong with him.
She knocked on the door; two guards were in front of his door, but they knew not to stop their boss’s wife.
There was no response.
She knocked again, harder than before: "Jungkook, if you don't wake up, I'll go in there myself.. Jungkook, come on!"
Inside, Jungkook felt annoyed by the continuous knocking: "What is it?" he called out in a voice hoarse from sleep and slightly irritated.
She opened the door quickly and stepped inside, looking at him with tears glistening in her eyes.
Jungkook felt angry at this intrusion of his property while he slept: "Get out now!" he shouted in a thick voice, clutching the covers as if stopping himself from getting up and dragging her out.
"Now!" he said through his teeth, "or it will be bad for you," he said without looking up at her.
But Lilian refused to leave; she stomped her foot on the floor out of a mix of anger, confusion, and disorientation.
"I won't leave! I want to talk to you!" Jungkook buried his head in the pillow, speaking in that tone that leaves no room for discussion: "Lilian, this is the last time I tell you to get out."
But she persisted in her stance....
Jungkook from between his teeth: "Lilian."
Lilian: "What?"
Jungkook raised his head slowly like a predator preparing to pounce on its prey: "Are you challenging me?"
Lilian angrily: "Yes, that is exactly what I was doing."
Jungkook's eyes ignited with anger, throwing sparks, and his ears seemed to smoke from the intensity of his rage; he stood up and walked toward her in a swift motion.
He grabbed her chin firmly with his hand, forcing her to look at him: "You have no idea what you are doing right now."
(Jungkook had been accustomed since childhood to obedience from everyone; the idea of someone challenging him seemed unacceptable, and not just unacceptable but impossible; it awakened a primal instinct in him).
Suddenly, he pulled her violently before her pleading eyes and threw her onto the bed with force, then took out a black leather belt from his closet, his body muscles tight with tension.
He turned to face her, his features distorted with anger and his eyes turning dark:
"You said you were challenging me, didn't you?" he said in a low voice, folding the belt to wrap it around his hand:
"You wanted to learn the meaning of being a good girl! You wanted to know what your punishment is? Fine, you will know everything now."
With a sudden move, he closed the distance between them to pin her to the bed.
Lilian was trembling, her pupils dilated, her heart beating in her ears like war drums: "I'm sorry Jungkook, I didn't mean it, please leave me."
But Jungkook wasn't listening; his vision was blurred with rage; he wrapped the belt around her neck with a snapping sound and tightened it; the texture of the leather belt was cold against the skin of her neck.
Lilian's face turned red as she struggled to take air; she tried to push him, but her hands were weak from the lack of oxygen; her lips turned blue, and her eyes teared up involuntarily.
Jungkook looked into her eyes; he stared at her for a moment and saw the raw weakness in her eyes; the way she trembled, her weak attempt to escape his grip, the tear that slid down her eyelid without her realizing it.
He saw his reflection in her pupils, the way he was leaning over her and the raw anger radiating from him; he looked like a monster, not a human.
And when he realized himself, he pulled away from her quickly as if he had been burned: "Damn! I didn't mean it, you know I'm not like this.. Lilian, breathe."
........................................................................
Lilian was taking breaths with difficulty, leaning forward to reach the air, coughing hard.
He approached her, extending his hand trying to grab her shoulder to steady her, but his hand hovered momentarily with hesitation before falling to his side.
At the moment Lilian was able to take her breath, she looked at him with tears streaming down her cheeks;
she retreated backward, shaking her head as if she couldn't believe what happened;
she ran out of the room crying without a single word.
Jungkook's jaw tightened when he saw her fleeing from him:
"Come back here, Lilian!" he shouted at her, trying to follow her, then stopped mid-step in the hallway: "
What are you trying to do, Jungkook? Let her take her time to process it."
He ran his hand through his hair, which had become roughly disheveled: "Damn, I am a monster.. but she is blameless, how did I hurt her?"
With a heavy sigh, he returned to his room, his shoulders drooping slightly as if he had lost a shipment he had worked for months on, rather than a simple emotional confrontation.
........................................................................
In her room, she continued crying under the covers until she fell asleep.
But in his room, he couldn't sleep;
he began pacing back and forth in the empty room, cursing and swearing under his breath:
"I didn't really mean it, I was a monster today, but she was the one who made me angry, how did I let my anger control me like this? Damn you, Jungkook."
He continued in this state until it was time for breakfast.
Jungkook sat at the table waiting for her to come, and when the maid Enarin returned: "Sir, she doesn't want to eat, she says she has no appetite for food."
Jungkook's eyes darkened with anger at her refusal; how could she refuse? He stood up forcefully, the chair making a screeching sound on the floor.
He went to her, knocking on the door:
"Lilian, get out of there!" he called out in a low voice despite the anger boiling under the surface, but he found no answer.
He turned the knob slowly but found it locked: "Damn Lilian, come out to me!" he said angrily, having lost control of himself and her, "You have five minutes before I break this door and drag you out by your hair."
But Lilian did not respond.
After his patience ran out, he knocked harder, desperately trying to open the door: "Lilian, I will break it! Are you okay in there?"
Her voice came weak from inside: "I'm fine, I don't want to go to eat," her voice came faint and weak.
When Jungkook heard her voice, he quickly backed away from the door: "Why is your voice like that? Are you crying?"
Lilian: "No, I was just sleeping."
Jungkook: "Then prove it and open this damn door."
Lilian: "I don't wish to talk now."
Jungkook's frustration increased, but he wanted to fix the matter because he knew he was the one who ruined it. Jungkook: "Lilian come on, don't you want to eat?"
Lilian: "No."
Jungkook ran his hand through his hair in frustration and shouted at her: "Fine, stay inside and die of hunger, see if I even care!" And with a final strike that almost broke the door, he left the hallway, leaving her inside.
He returned to the dining table, cursing under his breath: "She refuses me and refuses to eat with me; no one refuses me, Jungkook Jeon."
With a decisive movement, he broke the table, and food flew everywhere; he shouted in anger as the servants fled to anywhere but the kitchen:
"I am Jungkook! No one refuses my invitation!" he repeated, grabbing the plates and smashing them everywhere.
His breathing was heavy, gasping as plates flew everywhere; chaos filled the kitchen as he sat there breathing hard like a wounded man.
He ran his hands over his face, trying to forget her voice and the way she trembled before him.
"What was I thinking?" he shouted at himself.
He ran his hand through his hair, looking at the mess he made. He shouted at the servants: "Clean this! I want the place clean in two minutes!"
While the servants rushed to clean the place, he was there watching them, but he didn't see them; all he saw was his own monster;
He only saw the demon of his state. Why did I need you to stay...
