Chapter Twelve – Moving on

1162 Words
Sebastian’s POV We waited until the next morning before we got back on the road. Cain and I returned to the inn to pack our bags before proceeding with the journey. Cain spent the night with Melissa. Those two acts like I’d see mates do back in the pack. It seemed to me like they loved each other, it made me envious, they were just wild. Although they’d just met a week ago, they acted as though they couldn’t let go of each other for a moment, not to think of the fact that they'd been making out since they met. They in fact made out through the night, disturbing my sleep with moans and groans. Are humans often this involved in intimate pleasures? This was the first thought that came to me as I woke up to their ridiculous sexing. It was as if they couldn’t survive another moment without it, like a wolf in heat. I went downstairs to get a drink since the night had grown longer than Cain’s manhood. My head was a storm and I couldn’t stand the debauchery of those two. Thoughts of my pack being destroyed by a demon claiming my grandfather destroyed his coven of magical humans made me more anxious than I already was. The thought of him baffled me so much, I could see his face even in my sleep. Perhaps I was scared that if I fell too deep asleep, I might be drawn into his realm again. Even my wolf could feel my uneasiness at the thought of it all. I wondered if I could just turn back and run as fast as I could home, to prepare the packs against the impending disaster. This thought had me lost in the stars. It would seem to anyone from afar that I found beauty in the stars as I stared, but they were nothing than a blur in the corners of my eyes. I was searching for answers on what to do about the dark sorcerer who seems powerful enough to summon the devils in red clothing. I eventually made the decision to stay on track, I should find the sorcerer soon enough. I just needed to find the sorcerer friend of Cain’s to help track him with spells on the map my grandfather had given me. Then I’ll head back home immediately he is able to cure me of my magic. At this point, I no longer care if I lose the magic or not, I just want to head back home as soon as I can. Very early the next morning, I headed to the sorceress’s cottage with a small pouch filled with silverdrachs that I retrieved from my bag. It would be rude and inconsiderate of me to have left the sorceress without so much as a pay for her troubles. I owe her as much as I do, Cain. I got to the cottage on foot. When I knocked on the door, it seemed like no one was home. There was no reply and I couldn’t hear so much as a step or at least a heartbeat, but just as I took a few rescinding steps away from her porch, the door flung open. I turned to see her gesturing for me to come inside while she turned and walked backed inside. I went in and met her sitting on a chair that dangled from side to side, at the center of the house. She looked rough and more ragged than she did the previous day. Her wrinkled face and scattered blonde hair made it much more obvious that she was ancient. She sat on the chair and gestured for me to take a sit, although there was none except an old cabinet that held a variety of root herbs on the top. So I leaned a little bit into it, taking a seat partially to avoid destroying the roots. ‘I brought this for you as my way of appreciating what you’ve done for me’ I said, stretching out the pouch towards her. She looked at it, stretching her hand forward lazily to take it from me, ‘so a wolf knows how to repay kindness,’ she said. ‘For your troubles,’ I replied, ‘I wouldn’t be alive if it weren’t for you’ She stared at me blankly without saying anything, smiled a little, then dove her face into the pouch to check the money, ‘You’ve brought me a big fortune, Sebastian,’ she said, her face lighting up. ‘I can’t thank you enough’ I replied. ‘I only helped you because of my granddaughter,’ she said. ‘It’s rare to see a wolf that isn’t rogue and thinks like a human around this side of the world,’ she continued. Do rogues often visit your village? I asked She skipped my question and asked me another ‘how long have you been wandering? You are so far away from your pack. Any other wolf would have been torn limb from limb by the rogue wolves on the outskirts of this city, or worse, human wolf hunters. ‘As you now know, I’m no ordinary wolf, but I’ve encountered a number of them. They are not much burden to me, I could take control of their bodies and shatter their spines before they can attack me. So, it would be suicide for them to attack me’ I replied. ‘Be careful with the magic, wolf, it will consume you if you’re not careful. You shouldn’t have such magical powers in the first place. Only a few amongst sorcerers are granted the power you possess. It could be dangerous for you and your wolf.’ She ended. ‘I hear you then’, I said, nodding to show her I understood. ‘You should get on the road soon if you want to find the sorcerer soon,’ she said, getting off the wooden chair and heading inside with the pouch hanging in her right hand. And remember Sebastian, do not trust anyone around you, you may be betrayed soon. She ended, disappearing from my sight. I left her place and went back to the inn to meet Cain. We got back on the road after Melissa and Cain said their goodbyes cuddling each other. I couldn’t believe Cain could be like this. He had always been a fun person, but I never thought he would be this involved with a human, knowing his story. I had always thought Cain would rather avoid other humans since he always stood neutral whenever anything that had to do with humans came up. Perhaps I’m just envious of what he has with Melissa and couldn’t understand their intimate relationship because I had not met my mate yet. Although I’ve never been optimistic about meeting my mate ever since I came of age, seeing lovers and mates alike made me think of what it would feel like when I encounter my own mate.
