Chapter 34: Together Alone“Thanks for staying,” I said once we got back to the house. “You can eat these for dinner,” Lila said, taking the uneaten sandwiches out of the picnic basket. “Good idea,” I agreed. “That was some dream you were having,” Lila said. The contents of the basket empty, she stowed it in the kitchen closet by the door. I watched, focusing on her actions instead of the dream. “What was it?” she asked. “Don’t remember,” I said. “Fine,” Lila said, sighing. She kissed my forehead. “I’ll call you tomorrow.
