Ebere’s birthday was fast approaching and she looked forward to having a grand birthday party. She was hoping to have the best birthday ever with high hopes as to what her beloved husband Nonso would do to make her dreams come true.
Ebuka, her twin brother planned on having a joint celebration with her. It had been long since both of them celebrated their birthdays together. He wanted his twin sister to have the best birthday party ever. Nonso on his part decided to reveal the truth to her that day. He had realized that without an iota of doubt that Ebere was like no other. After making Sandra his wife, he came to understand why he would never be able to find anyone like Ebere. If he was asked to chose a spouse in his next life, he would still choose Ebere over and over again. He knew telling her about Sandra and the baby he was expecting with her would hurt her but he was tired of living in his lies. The more he concealed the truth, the more he gave Ebere reasons not to trust him. In order to win her love and trust once again, he took a one week leave from work and hoped to spend the week with Ebere. He wanted to make it up to his wife even if he had erred greatly. He knew his wife would forgive him easily if she hears the truth from him compared to when she hears it from someone else.
Ebere was glad to know that her husband had taken a one week leave just to spend time with her. She really missed those days when Amaka hadn’t been born and when it was just the two of them. How they'd have the best of romantic moments kissing and making love with so much passion. If there was something she really did love about Nonso, it was the fact that he was romantic to the core. Apart from the fact that he was very handsome, he was a sweet talker, perfect at exhibiting romantic gestures and was a very good love maker. She was beginning to feel the love of her husband once more and wished it would always be so.
Three nights before her birthday, Ebere had the most memorable night with her husband Nonso and it was one she'd always live to remember. Nonso had personally made efforts to make her feel really loved. It was the part of Nonso which she had really missed. They'd kissed so passionately and had the best s*x ever. It was tenacious that Ebere had to wish the night wouldn't end.
"I love you so much." She had said after the erotic moment.
"I love you more." Nonso replied caressing her leaving her to smile like she'd been put under a mesmerizing spell. She leaned forward and kissed him gently again. It started slowly and then gradually, they gained momentum as it became passionately intense.
"Let's go one more time." Ebere said pulling him to lay on her.
"Your wish is my command ma'am." Nonso replied and the rest is a perfect story for another day.
Before she woke up the following morning, Nonso had prepared breakfast and brought it to her in their room. He had asked his driver at the office to be the one to drop and pick Amaka from school. Ebere was so happy that morning. Nonso also fed her and all this he did just to make Ebere realise that he still loved her. He felt really happy with Ebere. The kind of happiness he had never felt with Sandra. Ebere missed this romantic attitude of her husband and forgetting that she hadn’t brushed that morning, she kissed him.
“I love you honey.” Nonso said and Ebere could feel the truth in his words. That morning was one of the most memorable mornings Ebere ever had with Nonso. She could feel that her birthday was going to be the best she had ever had because her husband was coming back to her and her family would be whole again.
Sandra was getting infuriated because Nonso was no longer spending time with her. She had learnt that Nonso had taken a one week leave at the office and that he was with Ebere. She became so jealous and decided to ruin the happiness that Ebere and Nonso now shared. She decided she would tell Ebere the whole truth since Nonso had decided to stay away from her. She knew that if Ebere should leave Nonso, he would have nowhere to go than to come back to her.
Ebuka had hired an event planner to plan the birthday of himself and Ebere well and superb. Nonso had made plans to take Ebere on a cruise after the party. Just the two of them where he would tell her the whole truth. The reason he chose inside a yacht in the beach was because he knew Ebere wouldn’t jump off into the sea no matter how angry she was. He would be able to apologize and hoped to get her to forgive him. He really wanted Ebere to forgive him because the one week he spent with her alone made him realize how much he really loved Ebere.
Ebere had stocked her shop with new wears and latest designs. Ebuka had imported one classic gown from Paris for her to wear on her birthday. Nonso couldn’t think of what to buy her because her twin brother was doing everything.
On the D-day, Ebere woke up to find roses on the floor of the room. She started blushing and knew her husband was at it again. She followed the trail of the roses until she came downstairs and found Nonso with a bouquet of flowers in his hands and a romantic music playing from the audio player. It was Westlife’s “nothing’s gonna change my love for you.” Ebere kept smiling and after presenting the flower to her, he hugged her.
“Happy birthday honey.” He said and kissed her. Ebere could feel butterflies in her tummy and she felt so happy. She couldn’t have asked for a much better gift than what her husband had given to her that morning.
“Thank you so much honey.” She said.
“And I love you more.” She added and continued with the kiss. She wished it wouldn’t end but then Amaka came in at that point and saw her parents kissing.
“Baby shut your eyes.” Nonso said and continued kissing Ebere. Amaka was smiling and Ebere had to detach first.
“Come here baby.” She said lifting her up.
The two of them burst into laughter leaving Amaka to wonder what was going on. Later that day, Ebere had to go to the shop to get the jewelries she had planned using at the party. The party would commence by 4 p.m. and she wanted to look really beautiful for Nonso. She wanted Nonso to know that she was still the very beautiful and irresponsible Ebere that he met and fell in love with years ago.
Sandra was already getting really irritated. Nonso wasn’t returning her calls and wasn’t replying her messages. She decided she would push through with her evil plans. She visited Ebere at the boutique and only God knows how she knew she would meet Ebere at that particular hour. Ebere remembered having seen her before so she knew who she was but not as her husband’s second wife but as the sales promoter at Cubran beverages. Nonso was set with his own plans. He had gotten the yacht ready and hoped it turns out well. He was ready to tell Ebere the truth and was ready to beg for her forgiveness. He kept praying to God to make sure his plans are not ruined.
"You're Sandra, the sales promoter at Cubran beverages right?" Ebere asked as she went ahead with sorting out the clothes which she had removes from their appropriate positions.
"Yes I am." Sandra replied.
"How may I be of help to you? I'm about leaving." Ebere replied still busy with what she was doing.
"Ebere, I know what I'm going to tell you will be very shocking but I want you to know that I really love you." Nonso rehearsed feeling really nervous as to how he would break the news of his infidelity to Ebere and how she'd handle it. He didn't find the introduction romantic enough. He heaved a sigh, exhaled deeply and gave a second try. He was alone yet the weight of the burden in his heart made him feel like Ebere was right in front of him.
Nonso knew what he was about to tell Ebere would not be easy to take in especially for someone like her. He knew Ebere to be very emotional and anything easily gets her down. He could still remember the time they were dating in campus and how she would get jealous whenever she saw him with any girl. Ebere was the type of lady that wouldn’t want to share her man with any lady for any reason. She could be called clingy and that was because she loved him so much. After getting everything, he decided to go home and rest in preparation for the party but as he was going a thought occurred to him to pass by Sandra’s and explain things to her as to why she hadn’t been seeing him lately. He knew he was also obligated towards Sandra and as his wife, he should also put her feelings into consideration. When he got to her place, he noticed that everywhere was locked and that no one was around. He tried reaching her through his mobile phone but it wasn’t going through.
Ebuka had gotten everything ready for the party and he was almost done preparing himself as one of the celebrants of the day. He decided to put a call through to Ebere to find out if she was already set for the party too.
“Babe, where are you? The party would be commencing soon.”
“I’m at the boutique. I came to get some jewelries that would complement the gown you bought for me.” Ebere replied as she excused herself from Sandra who stood there admiring the size of the boutique and the quality of clothes that were stocked in it.
“Please be fast with it. You know you are the major chief celebrant of the day. I am just here as a twin brother because honestly speaking it is you we are celebrating.” Ebuka replied.
“I’ll be on my way soon. I have a customer here and once I am done with her, I’ll be on my way.” Ebere replied and then Ebuka hung up.
“Where is Ebere?” Chigozie their older brother asked.
“She said she had a piece of jewelry she wanted to collect from the boutique but she will be joining us soon.” Ebuka replied.
“Ebere will never change. How is her husband coping with her? Nonso must really be a patient man because only a patient man can live with Ebere as a wife.” Chigozie said.
“You are correct. I have seen how much he loves our sister. His love for Ebere is commendable. I know that Nonso loves our sister. Do you know he has other plans for her after we finish at the party today? Guys like Nonso are rare in this generation.” Ebuka said.
“I totally agree with you on that. Our sister is really lucky to have a man like Nonso as a husband. He’s the man for our sister because it takes only a man like Nonso to understand an emotional lady like Ebere. He is indeed a man and we didn’t make any mistake allowing our sister marry him. He has proven that he is worth Ebere and I am happy to see that their marriage is blessed.” Chigozie replied.
Nonso decided to get some snacks from a restaurant nearby and then return home to get dressed for the party. He was expecting Ebere to be home already and had promised to be the one to drive her to the venue of the party. He wanted to make that day as memorable as ever. He knew it was his last chance to make things right and he didn’t want it to go to waste. While he was eating the snack in his car, his secretary called him.
“Sir, the client you promised to meet up with today is here at the office. Are you still coming or not?” Nonso had almost forgotten that he had fixed an appointment with a very prominent client.
“Please give the phone to him let me speak with him.” Nonso requested.
“Good evening Mr. James, I am sorry I forgot that I had scheduled a meeting for today. Today is my wife’s birthday and it is very important to me. Please with all due respect let us fix another day for the meeting.” Nonso apologized. At that point only Ebere mattered to him. Not his business, not himself but Ebere his beloved wife.
