As Mrs. Morrison took Katerina around to meet most of the department, Katerina was shocked to find that at least half of the department was human.
She had expected that the CEO would be hiring more wolves than humans.
Most of the wolves looked at her oddly, it was clear that she was from a pack, unlike most of them that were rogue.
It seemed that the CEO had created a haven for them in his company, one that sheltered rogues from threats both pack related and non-pack related.
‘There goes our chance of having a normal work experience.’ Calathea chuckled in her head.
‘At least we can be normal around the humans.’ Katerina told her wolf, satisfied with the consolation they got. ‘We never expected to be treated normally anyway.’
“Come, let me tell the Vice President that you are here. He will want to speak to you.” Mrs. Morrison said as she led Katerina down the hall.
Katerina was glad that the floor was carpeted, or else the clicking sound of Mrs. Morrison’s heels as they walked would have annoyed her to no end.
Most humans walked oddly, making it difficult for most wolves to be around women in heels, it irritated their enhanced hearing, something they couldn’t just switch off.
Having lived among humans for so long, Katerina and the rest of her pack had somewhat gotten used to their odd behaviors that would otherwise annoy a wolf. They had also adapted to the thin walls most humans favored, building their own homes thicker and stronger.
The Vice President’s office stood at the end of the hallway, far from most of the employees and beyond all the meeting rooms.
Clearly this man did not want to be heard, or maybe it was the other way around, he didn’t want to hear what his employees were saying.
Katerina couldn’t help but notice that the walls of the office were built much like those houses of her pack’s. They were much thicker than most human run companies, clearly a sign of wolves adapting to the humans they worked with.
“Here we go.” Mrs. Morrison said as she took a deep breath.
Katerina could smell so many emotions from Mrs. Morrison. The first was fear, something Katerina understood. The Vice President gave off the aura of a ranked wolf, even unranked wolves would be afraid to stand in front of him.
The second was excitement, or was it lust, Katerina had to hold herself back from laughing, it seemed that Mrs. Morrison had the hots for the Vice President aside from fearing him. Most wolves were good looking, or at least better looking than humans, most looked like walking models, so her reaction was still understandable.
There were also small hints of anxiety and worry, things that Katerina decided not to put too much thought into.
“Let her come in, you can go, Morrison.” Katerina heard a deep commanding voice say as soon as Mrs. Morrison pushed the door.
She felt the elder woman in front of her freeze for a moment, clearly shocked that the Vice President knew who was at the door and what she wanted.
“I’ll be fine.” Katerina whispered as she placed a hand on Mrs. Morrison’s shoulder.
Katerina was happy when she felt Mrs. Morrison slowly relax at her touch, it was a good feeling to be able to help someone.
“I’ll be down the hall, Miss Black.” Mrs. Morrison said with a weak smile as she was still trying to recover from the Vice President’s aura.
Katerina wanted to keep her there, so she could calm her down even more, but she knew the woman was eager to get as far away from that office as possible.
She gave the woman a subtle nod to tell her that she would be alright.
Mrs. Morrison slowly left, leaving Katerina alone standing outside of the Vice President’s office.
She couldn’t deny the fact that she was nervous, and it wasn’t because of the aura coming from the wolf in the office. It was because this was her first real job in a big company and there were a thousand things she felt she could mess up.
Taking a deep breath, she pushed the slightly open door and entered the office.
Inside was a room, brightly lit by natural light. It was larger than Katerina expected, it had its own meeting and receiving area. To the right most side of the office was a large dark wood table with an intimidating figure sitting behind the desk.
Katerina had met the Vice President once before, he was quite handsome even among wolves. He had blonde hair and blue eyes that seemingly pierced the soul.
For a rogue he looked clean and quite professional in Katerina’s opinion. He could be compared to a prince that had stepped out of a fairytale.
“Miss Black.” The Vice President said with a sly grin.
‘He knows we are a wolf.’ Calathea whispered in her head.
Katerina wanted to chuckle, it seemed that her wolf thought this man standing in front of them could hear her, something quite impossible.
“Vice President.” Katerina said in a respectful tone.
“You are odd.” The Vice President said as he leaned back on his seat and observed Katerina. “Most wolves would be compelled to show me respect, it’s in our nature, and yet you are choosing to show me respect.”
“I’m not most wolves.” Katerina said with a smile, choosing not to call him sir or his position.
“A wolf of Alpha blood?” The Vice President asked as his eyes looked directly into hers.
Katerina chose not to reply and simply smiled at the wolf across her.
“Interesting indeed, I didn’t get to size you up during your interview, but now, hmmmm. . .” The Vice President said as he continued to observe Katerina. “The Alpha will like you.”
“Alpha?” Katerina asked, surprised by what the man in front of her had said.
“Right, we are rogues, you don’t think we have Alphas or Betas.” The man said with a laugh that boomed across the room.
“It is what we are taught, yes.” Katerina bravely replied.
“You pack wolves really think you are so much better than us, it’s amusing.” The man said as he shook his head. “I’m honestly not surprised, but yes, we have an Alpha, the Alpha of all Rogues and I’m his Beta.”
‘He is oddly trusting for a rogue. They are usually overly cautious of telling us things.’ Calathea commented.
“Why are you telling me this?” Katerina asked, voicing both her’s and her wolf’s concern, Calathea was right, this behavior from the so-called Beta of Rogues was out of the ordinary.
The fact that she was a wolf with a pack made her dangerous and the information he had just told her didn’t seem like the kind that you could go around telling people. It seemed like a very dangerous secret.
“Something about you feels like I should tell you.” The so-called Beta said with a shrug. “And please, call me Caleb, Caleb Norton.”
“Nice to meet you, Beta Norton.” Katerina said as formally as she could.
“The CEO should be waiting for us, he was quite excited to hear that we hired another she-wolf.” Beta Norton said as he got up and walked to the door.
“Wait? What? Now?” Katerina asked in a panic.
“Yes, now.” Beta Norton said as he pulled her out of his office.
