CONFUSION

“That was interesting.” Caleb Norton said with a laugh as he made himself comfortable on one of Adrian Preston’s couches. “Who is she?” Adrian asked as he continued to glare at the door, as if she would return at any moment. “No, no, who is she to you oh great Rogue Alpha?” Caleb asked as he teased his Alpha and CEO. He already had a pretty good guess as to who Katerina was to his friend, he just wanted Adrian to confirm it himself. Adrian groaned and glared at Caleb, he knew the other man had an idea who she was to him. “Humor me.” Caleb said with a shrug. “My mate.” Adrian said with a growl, making Caleb flinch.  It was rare for Adrian to lose control of his Alpha aura like this, but it seemed that everything about Katerina Black made him lose control. “So what happened to rejecting -” Caleb wasn’t even able to complete his sentence when Adrian growled at him again. This time he knew that it was Adrian’s wolf that he was testing as the growl was more feral, more animalistic than it would have been if Adrian was fully in control. “My wolf does not like it when you talk about rejecting my mate.” Adrian said as he gave Caleb ample warning not to repeat the same mistake.  “It was you who planned it.” Caleb said as he rolled his eyes. Adrian shook his head and closed his eyes as he tried to regain full control of himself.  From the moment the she-wolf entered the room until now, his wolf had been on edge fighting to take control. Adrian had never realized how powerful his wolf actually was until that moment, something about that woman made his wolf stronger and in essence him stronger as well.  “So who was she?” Adrian asked as soon as he calmed down and sat across his Beta and friend.   “Her name is Katerina Black.” Caleb told Adrian. “Katerina, what a beautiful name.” Adrian said as he repeated the sweet name, it felt perfect on his lips. He wondered how her plump lips would feel against his, he craved to hear her say his name. “Earth to Adrian, are you there?” Caleb asked as he waved his hand in front of Adrian’s face.  “What?” Adrian asked his friend. “You were lost for a moment.” Caleb told Adrian as he pulled his hand back, worried that the alpha would bite it off. “Continue.” Adrian said with a nod as he let Caleb speak. He made sure to keep his thoughts in check. He never knew that a mate could consume him this much. This was exactly why he didn’t want a mate in the first place. They were just distractions. “I know she comes from a pack and that she isn’t a rouge, I just don’t know which pack.” Caleb informed Adrian. “She isn’t from around here?” Adrian asked with a raised eyebrow. “It’s rare for a wolf to venture far from their pack, their family. She should be drawn back.” “Maybe she’s trying to get away from them?” Caleb asked as he threw his wild theory around. “Or maybe she was drawn to you? Remember how your mom used to tell us stories about true mates being pulled to one another?” “That’s just children’s stories, Caleb. You’re too old to believe in them.” Adrian grumbled, unable to believe that his friend could have thought that it was possible.  “Either way, she must have issues with her pack. I mean for her to go this far, there are barely any packs nearby because of you.” Caleb pointed out. Adrian couldn’t help but nod in agreement, his beta was not wrong there. Ever since he had taken over this city for his business the packs that once lived nearby slowly left, many seeking refuge with the King of Alphas, a man Adrian hated to the core.  They all moved away because they weren’t able to stand Adrian’s aura. It was either move away or submit to the Rogue Alpha. “You knew she was special.” Adrian realized as he looked his friend in the eyes. Caleb slowly nodded as he confirmed that he had his suspicions.  “From the moment I met her, yes.” Caleb said with a nod. “But it seems that she’s either an alpha or of alpha blood. Our auras don’t work on her, which is something new.” Adrian was visibly surprised by what Caleb had just said, another first. He had never heard of a Beta recognizing their Luna. Normally he only found out after the Alpha found her.  “She must come from a very powerful Alpha family and a very powerful pack if she is able to resist our auras.” Adrian said as he considered the situation. “She even tried to reject me.” He added with a laugh, finding it incredibly ridiculous. “Yeah, here I was worried that you would reject her without giving her a chance and the Luna begins to recite it.” Caleb said as he shook his head.  “Don’t call her that, not yet. I haven’t decided and I never took the title of Rogue Alpha.” Adrian glared at Caleb as he dared his friend to say more. Caleb was much calmer and wasn’t worried this time, he knew that Adrian was in control and not his wolf.  “She is our Luna whether you accept her or not.” Caleb rolled his eyes as he knew that Adrian had already fallen for the she-wolf that wouldn’t be conquered.   “Do you think she will come to work tomorrow?” Adrian asked Caleb as he looked at the door she had just stomped out of. “Probably, she said she really needed this job, so I wouldn’t think she’d leave if she could reject or avoid you.” Caleb shrugged. “She can’t avoid me forever.” Adrian said with a grin. “Find out who her pack is and who her alpha is.” “The alpha is most likely her father.” Caleb warned.  “Do you think that would bother me?” Adrian asked. “Of course not.” Caleb chuckled as he got up and left. All alone in his office, Adrian got up and walked to his window that overlooked the entire city . He never wanted a mate, he knew one could ruin his plans for the future. He knew that she could pull him back to the life he had long left. Despite that, despite swearing from the moment he left home that he would reject his mate he didn’t seem to be capable of rejecting Katerina Black. Something about her drew him closer, he needed her and he knew she needed him. “I’ll see you soon, mate.” Adrian declared as he looked out into the city, wondering where his feisty mate had run off to.
