As they left Caleb Norton’s office and passed the rest of the marketing department, everyone suddenly got up and began to prepare their things.
“I’ll report everything to the CEO myself, you can all go back to whatever work you were doing.” Caleb Norton told the employees as they looked at each other.
This did happen occasionally, so it wasn’t exactly odd for the Vice President to announce something like this.
The wolves in the room, however, knew that the only time Beta Norton dismissed the rest of the team was when an emergency came up. They couldn’t help but glance at the new commer, Katerina Black.
She entered Beta Norton’s office for an introduction and he came out with urgent news for the Alpha, all signs pointed to her being involved in whatever urgent news the Beta had to tell their Alpha.
“Miss Black will accompany me, the CEO insists on meeting as many new employees as possible, so this would be the opportunity.” Caleb Norton said as he turned and left, not waiting for the employees to acknowledge what he had said.
“Good luck, the CEO is not a bad man. You’ll be fine.” Mrs. Morrison whispered to Katerina, before nudging her to follow Caleb Norton.
Unable to come up with an excuse not to follow the Rogue Beta, Katerina silently followed with her head down.
“Hurry up, Black.” Beta Norton called after her, making Katerina walk faster.
She was hoping that the Rogue Alpha was busy with some meeting or a woman so that she could delay her introduction, if not cancel it completely.
Katerina knew that the moment she stepped into that office the Alpha would know what she was. Unlike Beta Norton, he would actually be able to figure out why no commands would work on her and why their auras had no effect on her whatsoever.
The CEO’s office was two floors above the Marketing Department’s, Beta Norton had chosen to take the CEO’s elevator since it was the quickest and most private way up.
“He isn’t a bad person, Katerina.” Beta Norton said in an oddly kind tone. “Just give him a chance.”
“A chance for what?” Katerina asked as the elevator doors opened to the top floor.
“You’ll see, I just have a feeling.” Beta Norton said as he walked out of the elevator, leaving a confused Katerina alone in the elevator.
She quickly gathered herself as she followed Beta Norton down the hall towards the CEO’s office. The whole floor seemed to be silent, the only thing one could hear was the heartbeats of the employees and the clicking of computer keys.
‘Maybe he likes the silence.’ Calathea told Katerina as they observed their surroundings.
‘Or the employees are all just afraid of him.’ Katerina replied to her wolf. ‘Just think about it, if they are already fearful of Beta Norton, how much more would they fear the CEO who just so happens to also be some Rogue Alpha.’
‘These people are odd, but you gotta hand it to them, they use the best perfume on this floor.’ Calathea said as Katerina got a whiff of the alluring scent.
“Black.” Beta Norton called out as he noticed her stopping to take a sniff of the air.
Surprisingly he wasn’t mad at Katerina, instead he had a cheeky grin on his face as he shook his head.
“Are you planning on playing a prank on me?” Katerina asked the Beta.
“Nope. Just hurry up.” Beta Norton commanded as she quickly walked towards him.
At the end of the hall were two simple wood doors with a desk in front of it.
“James.” Beta Norton greeted as a young man lifted his head from his computer monitor.
‘Something is different about him.’ Katerina told her wolf as she sensed an odd aura coming from the young man. ‘Is he a ranked wolf too?’
‘No.’ Calathea responded, seemingly confused as well.
“Caleb, is this she?” The young man that Beta Norton had called James said as he gave Katerina a kind smile.
Unlike Beta Norton he didn’t give off an aura that warded most wolves off, instead it would have made most wolves feel at ease, something Katerina had never experienced in the past.
“Stop working your charms on her, kid, it won’t work.” Beta Norton said as he laughed at the young man who was trying his best to ease the visible anxiety on Katerina’s face.
“That’s odd -” Before James could even finish his sentence, a shrill and annoying voice came from down the hall, interrupting their conversation.
“Caleb Norton, what a surprise to find you here?” A woman in six inch heels and an extremely short red dress said as she strutted across the hall and made her way to their group.
‘She stinks.’ Katerina told Calathea.
‘I agree, she smells worse than most rogues.’ Calathea told her human as they observed as the woman approached.
Most rogues smelled like trash because of their lack of a family unit, a pack, but the wolves at this company did not smell like that despite being rogues, confusing Katerina since her first interview.
‘Maybe it’s because they have an Alpha?’ Calathea asked Katerina as she listened in on her thoughts.
Katerina had no answer for her wolf’s question and simply decided to focus on the woman before her.
“Who is this dull little thing?” The woman asked as she gave Katerina a disgusted look.
“Someone way nicer and more interesting than you.” James said as he glared at the woman, clearly he did not like her.
“What are you doing here, Scarlett?” Beta Norton asked as he glared at the woman, throwing his aura at her, forcing her to show him respect and answer him.
“I’m here for the Alpha, Beta Norton.” The woman called Scarlett said in a respectful tone, clearly she did not like the position she was in.
When Beta Norton finally let his aura go, Scarlett straightened her back as flipped her blonde hair that cascaded on her back.
Scarlett was gorgeous, Kateirna was quite pretty, as most wolves were, but Scarlett looked more like a movie star. She carried herself with confidence, knowing how well she looked.
“He is busy, we have a meeting.” Beta Norton told Scarlett.
“He wouldn’t deny me.” Scarlett said as she glared at Beta Norton. “You’re just jealous because you denied what could be yours.”
“He’s been avoiding you from the moment you entered this city, Scarlett.” James said with a laugh. “Don’t kid yourself.”
“Unlike most wolves Adrian and I are waiting for our mates.” Beta Norton said with a victorious grin.
“Give him a call and see what he has to say.” Scarlett said as she challenged Beta Norton.
Katerina was not surprised when Beta Norton began to laugh as he nodded at James to make the call.
As rogues, Katerina knew that they didn’t have a pack link and thus they wouldn’t be able to communicate with one another through their minds.
James gave Beta Norton a smile as he switched on the intercom and placed it on speaker. It seemed that both men already knew the outcome before it even happened.
