As soon as the doors opened, Katerina smelled the most fragrant scent she had ever caught a whiff of.
“Who is with you, Caleb?” The Rogue Alpha said in a much deeper and more dangerous tone than earlier.
‘Could it be?’ Calathea asked Katerina as she stood frozen outside of the office.
Katerina refused to move, she refused to enter the office and look up into the the Alpha’s eyes.
She already got the feeling from his scent that they could be mates, but the only way to confirm it was to look into his eyes.
The moment their eyes would meet the bond would activate and they would know if they were true mates.
“Katerina, don’t be shy.” Beta Norton said as he turned around and smiled at Katerina.
“I- I- can’t.” Katerina managed to say as she kept her head down.
“Katerina, come on, you need to meet the CEO.” Beta Norton insisted as he reached out to grab her arm and pull Katerina into the room.
To everyone’s surprise, a loud growl filled the room and the hallway outside, making Beta Norton pull his hand away from Katerina.
“Do not touch her.” The Alpha commanded, making Beta Norton retract his hand and bow his head in shame.
Katerina could see the confusion in Beta Norton’s eyes, but chose not to say anything about it.
Unknown to her, the Rogue Alpha never used his Alpha aura on his Beta or on his friends, not even on James who was often quite a handful.
The Rogue Alpha was very much against using his Alpha aura on anyone, but he knew that it was necessary in some cases.
Aside from his refusal to take anyone’s free will, he also knew that it could become dangerous if the Alpha King found out about him and his abilities, so he chose to use it as little as possible.
“Was that really necessary?” Beta Norton asked, breaking the awkward air between the three of them.
The Rogue Alpha simply glared at him, making him keep quiet.
“Come in.” The Rogue Alpha commanded Katerina, this time without his aura.
When Katerina entered, she didn’t seem scared or nervous to meet him, she simply seemed reluctant, something that puzzled the Rogue Alpha.
“This is interesting.” The Rogue Alpha said as he continued to observe her. “Even ranked wolves from packs would feel intimidated or scared when they first meet me, you seem uninterested.”
“Because I’m not.” Katerina replied simply, much to Beta Norton’s amusement, making him laugh. To which the Rogue Alpha responded with a growl.
Meanwhile, Katerina kept her head down, refusing to look him in the eyes and acknowledge the bond.
‘Isn’t this what we’ve been looking for our whole life?’ Calathea asked her human. ‘The wolf that could be our mate is standing right in front of us. Lift your head, human!’ She ordered Katerina.
‘It’s not that I don’t want him, Calathea.’ Katerina said as she tried to explain her decision to her wolf as she bit her lower lip. ‘My pack will become his pack, can we give our people up to a man like this?’ She asked her wolf.
To Katerina’s surprise, her wolf remained silent as she considered what her human had just said.
“You know who I am to you and who you are to me, why don’t you look at me, little wolf.” The Alpha said in a booming voice.
Katerina remained silent as she shook her head and continued to look down at her feet.
“Don’t all shewolves dream of meeting their mate?” The Rogue Alpha asked angrily, clearly he did not like the fact that Katerina continued to defy him. “Don’t all shewolves desire to have an Alpha for a mate?” He asked.
“I’m not all shewolves.” Katerina responded in a poisonous tone, one that seemed to break the Rogue Alpha’s heart, much to his Beta’s surprise.
“Look at me!” The Rogue Alpha commanded.
“I’m not from your pack.” Katerina hissed.
Something about her reaction shocked the Alpha and his Beta, they had never seen anyone resist the Rogue Alpha’s command, not even wolves that belonged to packs.
“So she is more than just a wolf with Alpha blood.” Beta Norton commented with a chuckle.
To Katerina’s surprise, the Rogue Alpha quickly made his way towards her until he was standing right in front of her. She was now looking down not only at her own shoes but at those of the Rogue Alpha’s as well.
“Will you really not look at me?” The alpha asked in a much kinder and tender tone.
“No.” Katerina responded, making Beta Norton laugh again.
‘We should go.’ Calathea told her human.
‘I agree, we might have pushed too many of this Alpha’s buttons.’ Katerina said as she made a motion to turn and leave.
Just as her body showed any indication that she was leaving, the Rogue Alpha quickly grabbed her by the arm and kept her in place.
“Do not run from me.” The Rouge Alpha said as he pulled her closer to him and lifted her chin.
When Katerina noticed what he was doing, she quickly shut her eyes, desperate not to let the mate bond activate itself.
“Open your eyes, little wolf, you can’t stop what is meant to happen.” The Rogue Alpha said as he seemed to be quite amused with Katerina’s reaction to him.
“I can delay it.” Katerina answered back.
The Rogue Alpha laughed when he heard her words, for a moment he considered keeping his mate rather than rejecting her.
It was quite rare to find a shewolf that did not desperately want the matebond, maybe they were more alike than he thought.
Realizing how illogical it would be to let the bond stay, he quickly pushed the thought out of his head and focused on getting the beautiful woman in front of him to open her eyes.
The sooner the bond activated, the sooner he could reject it.
“If you do not open your eyes and look at me, I will forcefully mate and mark you and I will not care how you feel about it.” He threatened.
Katerina tensed up when she heard his words, for a moment she entertained the thought that he might only be bluffing, but she refused to leave it to chance.
She slowly opened her eyes and found his black eyes looking into her own. She could see as glints of gold danced around in his irises, a sign that the bond was activating.
‘Mate.’ Katerina heard Calathea say as the bond snapped in place.
Calathea’s words quickly brought her back to reality and made her realize that this man was not the person she wanted for her pack, or at least she didn’t think she wanted him.
“I, Katerina Black, rej -” Just as Katerina began to utter her rejection of the bond, the Alpha’s lips came crashing down on hers stopping Katerina from completing her statement.
When he finally released her lips, she was too dizzy to continue to say what she had planned.
“Don’t you dare break the bond.” The alpha threatened. “If you do, I will slaughter your pack.”
Katerina was in shock, she never thought he would threaten to murder her people.
“I will find a way out of this, and when I do, you will be sorry.” Katerina said as she raised a hand and slapped his face.
She quickly turned around and marched out of his office, ignoring his commands for her to return.
