By the time Dana fought her way through the usual nightmare of traffic in Midtown Atlanta and made it to Andre’s lab just outside of Roswell, she was hot, agitated, and starving. The sun was already on the downslope of a long, late summer day. But this time of year, Atlanta held onto the heat, resisting the effects of darkness or any kind of errant breeze that wandered down from the northern mountains. The air conditioning in her hybrid car fought the good fight, of course. It never quite managed to keep up in August.
