The delicate peace settled over the kingdom like a thin layer of frost, fragile and susceptible to shattering at the slightest disturbance. My mind, however, remained restless, haunted by the compromises made for the sake of our children's safety. As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow across the landscape, I found solace in the quietude of my private chambers.
