She smiled grimly.
“And Mercury is in retrograde,” she said. “A s**t storm of misunderstandings, miscommunication, and crazies coming up. At least that’s what I’ve been hearing.”
“Some of the more New Age radio stations have been telling people to pay attention,” I said, “because something really good or really bad is going to happen.” I laughed. “You could pretty much say that any time, couldn’t you? What the hell is Mercury retrograde, anyway? I’ve never understood it. The planet goes backward but doesn’t really. It just looks like it. What does that mean? It does a moon walk?”
Fern shrugged. “I don’t know. I wish I’d paid attention earlier though. I would have changed my plans.”
