SIX I heard Hayword and David laughing when I woke up. I lay under the sheet listening. Sounded like they were in David’s room. Must be about time to leave for school. Or maybe time to go down for breakfast. I turned my head and looked at the clock. Why was I awake so early? Didn’t even have a hangover. What were they saying to one another? How easy they seemed together. Like friends, buddies. Or father and son. Would Alberto and Hayword have been buddies? Would he have been like me? Or like David? Like Fern? Hopefully not like Fern.
