Chapter 13

Ashley POV

I woke up in a beautiful garden. the grass was luscious and green, a large, flowering, blossom tree was the only tree in sight. There was a crystal clear lake near the tree and a woman sitting under the tree. I picked myself off the ground and walked towards her. The pain I had before in my back was completely gone. I walked towards her, she knew I was there, I could see a smile come across her face.

“hello my child, I see you have a lot of questions for me, but first we should start with the obvious one. I am the moon goddess, you are in my realm and I have been watching you for some time,”

“have I died moon goddess?” I was afraid of death. More so now, because I had only just found my mate. We haven’t had any time together.

“not quite my dear, you see, you have a choice. I could keep you here and you could be free of all of your worries… Or, I could send you back to your mate to fight to keep him and your pack.” She turned to face me. Wow, she is beautiful. “however, I don’t want to send you back straight away. There are some wolves here that want to talk to you before you make your choice. I considered not letting them speak to you, but I find in these circumstances, its would be better for you in the long run. Rest here for a while, your visitors will not be far away.” With that she rose, smiled at me and dove into lake.

I had no fear, just impatience. I waited against the tree, watching the blossoms fall to the ground. They broke free from their branches and spun, almost like a dance, towards the ground. I don’t remember how long I have been here for. Soon enough I heard the russle of the grass and turned to see who was approaching. It took a moment for my eyes to focus in the sun.

“mum? DAD?” I leapt from the tree and dashed through the grass to embrace my parents.

“what are you doing here?” I sobbed, my dad was the first to speak to me cupping my check in his hand.

“we need to explain some things to you, we have watched you for a long time.. we are so sorry for what Craig did to you and its all our fault” he teared up as his hand dropped away from me.

“ you have grown my baby, you are much stronger than you know.” I had almost forgotten the sound of my mums voice.

“ sit baby, and let me explain.” She took my hand an led me back to the tree. We took a seat under the falling blossom’s, they each took one of my hands and began their tale.

“so, you know some of the details now about your father and his pack, especially as you are now mated with the Alpha of that pack.” A smile grew on my mothers face before she became serious once more. “ I was meant to be mated by my family to another wolf, not long before I found my true mate in your father. We were meant to begin the ceremonies two weeks after your fathers visit. Of course, when I found him I was no longer able to continue with the arrangement and my family and the family of my suiter both understood. I thought my suiter understood too, but I was wrong.” She sighed and squeezed my hand unable to continue, my father stepped in.

“we were completely in love and soon after completed our mating. Almost a year later, we had you. You were the joy in our life. Two years after you were born out pack was attacked, by what we thought at the time was rouges. Your mother was killed in the attack. We never found the rouges, we couldn’t find their scents to track them. For a while after your mother was gone I was terrified that they would come back and take you. I made sure to inestigate every lead. Thts when I found out that Craig had hired some rouges to kill me. He gave the rouges me scent but they found your mother. Her scent by then was much like mine. They attacked her without knowing the difference. It took me a long time to prepare an exchange to transfer for me and you to leave the pack. With no proof that the Alpha was behind the attack, I couldn’t confront him. On the day the treaty and transfer were to be completed you began to shift. You know what happened from there as we know what happened to you from then on” by now he had placed my mother in his lap and was rubbing her back.

“I don’t understand… why did Alpha Craig send rouges to kill you?” this made no sense to me.

“oh, honey. I was meant to be his arranged mate. I thought he would have been happy for me, but he grew jealous and dark. We believe that is why he is hunting you down baby. He thinks, in his own deluded way, that he gets a second chance… with you.” I stopped breathing.

“you mean, he is after me because he couldn’t get you? Oh my goddess, that’s why he killed you wasn’t it dad? Because you were going to take me with you when you left?” everything was finally clicking into place. His actions of rage, the beating I took, all because he couldn’t have my mum and then me. I was silent for some time, trying to take all of this new information in, when I realised I could ask them something that I had wanted to know for some time.

“ah, I have a question.. I mean its probably not important.. but, well.. most wolves don’t shift until they are 17 or past… why did I shift so early?” I knew something else was happening when they didn’t look at me.

“baby, we cant tell you… all we can say is that your are stronger than you know… we have to leave now. The moon goddess is calling me back. Be brave in your choice my baby.” They kissed the top of my head and walked off into the grass. There, behind me was a white wolf with silver eyes. The wolf shifted back into her human form and before me stood the moon goddess.

“you will need to choose my dear.. here with me, or back with your mate.” I considered my choices. Here would be so much more peaceful but I wouldn’t have Jamie.

“why wouldn’t my parents tell me why I shifted so early” I questioned. If they couldn’t tell me, sure the moon goddess herself could.

“Ashley, you are special. Had your father been able to teach you, you would have already known. Before you were born, your mother prayed to me. Most she-wolves are with pup soon after they mate, but your parents were having trouble. I heard their prayers and decided to answer them. I looked into your now present and knew what would become of you. I knew that you would need some help to survive and be with your mate. So I made a deal with your mother. I would grant her a child, she would have some of my powers. All she would need to do would be to let her father guide her in life. It was never my intention to leave you without your mother and father my dear. Be careful with this knowledge. When you wake you will be stronger than any other wolf, faster, able to heal at a much faster rate and more deadly too. I know you have already made your choice. Sit with me for a while and watch the blossom’s fall my dear.” We sat together. I contemplated what the moon goddess had told me and wondered what things would be like when I returned. Soon my eyes began to close, they were heavier than I could manage. I drifted off to sleep and began to dream of Jamie.
