FORBIDDEN TEMPLE

SHADOW HEIRS: THE LAST KINGDOM Part 4 – The Forbidden Temple Night covered the kingdom like a dark cloak. The moon hung high above the mountains, casting silver light across the ancient forest. Kael, Lyra, and Darius walked carefully beneath towering trees whose branches twisted like giant hands. Every sound made them reach for their weapons. They had defeated the Shadow Wolves, but their victory came at a cost. Kael's shoulder still ached from the battle, and Darius carried fresh scars across his arm. Yet they could not stop now. "The temple should be close," Lyra whispered, studying the glowing map she had taken from the old sage. "According to this, the second Shadow Crystal is hidden beneath the Temple of Echoes." Darius frowned. "I've heard stories about that place. They say no one enters and returns unchanged." Kael tightened his grip on his sword. "Then we'll make history." As dawn approached, the trees opened into a forgotten valley. There, half-covered in vines, stood an enormous stone temple. Its pillars were cracked by time, and strange symbols glowed faintly across its walls. "This is it," Lyra said. The three climbed the worn stone steps. The giant doors slowly creaked open without anyone touching them. Inside, silence ruled. Then— "Welcome... Shadow Heir." The voice echoed through the temple. Kael froze. "Who's there?" he shouted. Only laughter answered. Suddenly, the floor shook violently. Stone statues came to life, their eyes burning with blue fire. Each warrior held a massive spear. "They're guardians!" Darius yelled. The statues charged. Kael rushed forward, blocking a crushing spear strike. Sparks flew as steel clashed against enchanted stone. Lyra fired arrows glowing with magic, shattering one guardian's arm. But for every statue they damaged, another appeared. "We're trapped!" Darius cried. Kael noticed glowing runes on the floor. "The symbols! Destroy them!" Together they attacked the runes instead of the guardians. As the final rune shattered, every statue froze before crumbling into dust. The path ahead opened. Deep within the temple, they discovered a circular chamber. In its center floated the second Shadow Crystal, surrounded by swirling black mist. Kael stepped toward it. The moment his fingers touched the crystal, the room transformed. He stood in the ruins of his childhood home. His father stood before him. "You failed me." Kael's heart pounded. "No... you're dead." His father smiled sadly. "You were never strong enough to protect anyone." Kael lowered his sword, overcome with guilt. Then Lyra's voice echoed from somewhere beyond the illusion. "Kael! It's not real!" He closed his eyes. "My father believed in me," Kael whispered. "You are only fear." The illusion shattered like broken glass. Kael found himself back in the temple. The Shadow Crystal floated into his hands, glowing with brilliant silver light. A terrible roar shook the chamber. From the darkness emerged a towering creature with horns, glowing red eyes, and wings of living shadow. "I am Morvath," it growled. "Guardian of the Shadow Temple." Its claws struck the ground, cracking the stone floor. The final battle for the crystal had begun... End of Part 4
