Stumbling angrily out of Atlas’ car, I entered the available taxi I saw even though the supposed occupant cursed me out.
It was a past I had vowed to forget. Something I had discarded and he dared to remind me of that event?. My very past I had left behind.
I had packed my things in hope for a better opportunity and hoping to leave with my baby.
When I arrived at the airport, I suddenly started experiencing sharp pain in my belly, unsure and confused about the pain and trying to find my way in a strange land when a stranger stopped me to tell me I was bleeding.
My first gift in a strange land was me losing my baby.
Instinctively, I reached for my stomach.
“Are you crying?” The driver interrupted my thoughts.
I reached for my face and saw tears, I didn’t even know I was crying.
I sat down sipping my coffee, taking quick glances at my watches and shooting eyes at the door. It’s been over an hour, why is he not here still?
“Avannah?” Someone called out.
I looked up to see Luca standing in front of me.
He picked up the drink in front of me and sipped it.
“Ohh…I don’t like this” He said, gesturing for the waiter.
I cupped my face with my palm watching him.
“Can I get a glass of mango drink?” he instructed.
“Really? You came late and no apologies whatsoever” I confronted him.
“I am sorry, I was busy with my girlfriend” he said, putting emphasis on the word girlfriend.
“You have found another soul to torture?” I scoffed.
“You won’t receive my advances…so yeah”
I looked away from him.
“So about Liam Smith…”He started.
“Yes, you will leave his business alone as promised….for the time being at least…I want him to always be at my mercy” I told him.
“I am sorry, I can’t help you with that again” he blurted out.
“What?” I exclaimed.
“We had talked about this before now and you already agreed”
“That was in the past. I now have a reason to make his business crumble” he said, a sudden shift evident in his voice.
“What happened?” I asked.
Judging my Luca’s tone, I knew he meant business. This was his usual demure, unlike his playful nature that he brings out in front of me.
“Something changed, Hannah” He said, his voice going stoic as he leaned over.
I swallowed hard in my throat. He never knew me as Hannah, only few people do.
“Who is Hannah?” I managed to give a nervous smile.
“If you don’t want to get roped in this, you need to stay away from this” he said, immediately standing up and walking out.
I let out a deep breath I had been holding. This was supposed to go smoothly. I had something planned I needed to do at Liam’s company and now Luca is going to sabotage it for me.
I reached for my phone in my bag to call my assistant when her call came in.
“Find out what you can about Luca Blackwood…especially his recent activities” I told her nervously.
“Luca? Why?” she inquired.
“I would prefer you not asking me questions” I replied, preparing to disconnect the call.
“So I shouldn’t find out about Atlas and Kate anymore”
“You can ignore that request”
“I am currently at an hotel where both families are having lunch together…I guess it was a time well wasted” Marie’s voice went low.
“Send me the location” I told her.
“And go tail Luca instead…do it discreetly..you know how he can be” I cautioned her.
“This isn’t my first rodeo,” She replied happily.
I inhaled a long breath. I was feeling conflicted on whether to go to the location Marie had sent me. I figured it was better to leave Atlas alone.
Driving back, I couldn’t help but think of what could have factored Luca’s change of mind. Ever since he tried to ruin my business and I had won against him. We had been friends since then.
I arrived at the hotel, the same one I promised myself not to come to.
The valet took my car key to go park the car and I walked to the hotel, heading straight to where Marie had told me they were and I sighted them.
My former mother in-law and Liam’s siblings were eating and laughing and something churned inside me. I wanted to smack their heads.
I stood and observed for a while when I noticed Kate and her mother giving each other a look. I know that look, it’s the look when they want to tell each other something.
They both stood up and after waiting for a few seconds, I followed them to hear what they had to say.
“You just need to keep kissing their stupid asses so we can hasten the wedding” Mirabel, Kate’s mother, said.
“It’s so hard to pretend, I mean, he isn’t even their real son. I heard he was from an orphanage” she mocked.
“Something about orphanage kids makes me want to play with them” Mirabel laughed.
I clenched my palm into a fist and got ready to challenge them when a hand pulled me away. I looked up to the person in anger when I saw Atlas.
“What are you doing here?” I questioned.
“I should be asking you the same thing” he said back.
“Look, I don’t know how to say this without you thinking I am crazy or something but you shouldn’t get married”
“No…you can get married but not to Kate..you can get married but not to anyone from Smith’s family. They would destroy your soul. I know because of my experience but you shouldn’t go through what I go through, Atlas” I said, tears streaming from my cheeks.
“So, marry me instead,” Atlas said, looking into my eyes.
“Look, I was pulling your legs then” I told him, looking away.
Atlas pulled my chin to face him “ I am not joking this time” without waiting for my response, he pulled me in for a kiss.
