Author notes.
This is the first story that I have written on this platform. Thank you for reading! I decided to change how I write these points of view. More from the character's actual point of view vs just the occasional thought. Please let me know if you like this format better.
Eric
Eric woke up the next day with a smile on his face. He had his first date with his mate and it went great.
"You should make a breakfast reservation at Sarabeth's," said Josh as he yawn, "I think that our mate would like that".
"Not a bad idea," I said as I decided to get out of bed. I wanted to get a workout in before I started my second day with my mate.
I walked out of my room to the stairs and sprinted down them to start my workout. I got a good sweat in and went to shower.
It was 9:30 and I went to Amber's room. I knocked and she opened the door almost instantly. Her hair was different today. It was up with a few curls framing her face. It made her look almost regal.
"Are you ready for your appointment? I asked.
"Ready and slightly nervous, but yes ready," replied Amber.
Great, I replied and grabbed her hand. "Dr. Moore asked that you come to the appointment fasted, but I have a great brunch place picked out afterward".
We reached Dr. Moore's clinic and went right in. The nurse greeted us and took us right in. She took all of Amber's vitals and took a few scans of her brain and even an x-ray. I looked at Amber and she looked more nervous now.
Amber
I'm not sure why I'm so on edge today. I've gone through similar tests like this for years. I'm not sure what Dr. Moore can find that the others couldn't.
Dr. Moore enters the room. She doesn't look like she's over 900 years old. She looks like she's barely thirty. Dark hair, bright green eyes, typical lab coat.
She puts up some scans onto the wall and then looks back at me.
" Amber, I have looked over all of your charts and scans. I even requested notes from your previous doctor, and medically speaking, there isn't a reason why you shouldn't be able to contact your wolf".
Amber sighed, she knew this already.
Dr. Moore continued, "But as a mythical creature, you're more than just your physical form. You're composed of previous generations' choices. I don't mean a spell or curse. I am half-witch and can't sense anything about you. I'm wondering if this has happened within your bloodline before, but for a certain reason. I’m going to do some digging into your history. Your father is from the Mount Wood pack and your mother is from the River Light pack, correct?" asked Dr. Moore.
Yes, that's correct, I replied.
"Give me some time. I will get back to you as soon as I can" replied Dr. Moore with a smile.
Josh
(Eric's wolf)
I hate the smell of doctor's offices. So strong and sterile. I also hate seeing my mate so sad. She was expecting the doctor not to find anything.
I miss my mate's wolf. I can smell her and sense her, but I don't know her name, I can't hear her voice.
I suppose this is how Amber feels too. I must think of a way to cheer up mate.
"My name is Annabell". I hear, barely, the slightest whisper. Amber must have heard it too because she looks at me.
I keep trying to contact the sweet voice, but she isn't replying.
Annabell
I am Annabell and I am Amber's wolf.
I dodge a punch from a witch. The Moon Goddess has kept me deep within Amber's subconscious. Why... I'm not sure, she keeps bringing in different opponents. Then teaching me their different strengths and weaknesses.
To be honest, I have been this way for the last twenty-two years, and I am a little stir-crazy. Amber was born with me vs receiving me as a gift on her eighteenth birthday. So I’ve been alive longer than most wolves.
I finish off this witch and turn to the Moon Goddess "Can I just tell my mate my name? I won't do any more than that. I will come back to my training immediately."
"Yes, my child. But only your name. Your time with your mate will come soon enough.".
Amber
I hear Annabell whisper her name to Josh, but just like that, she is gone. I’m disappointed, but I can’t say that I’m surprised. This sort of thing has happened for most of my life. I let Dr. Moore know and she gives me a half-smile and takes some notes down before dismissing us.
"Josh is just happy that he heard her voice. It's a start," said Eric as he put his arm behind my shoulder in the car.
"We will figure this out one way or another and we will do it together. You don't have to face this on your own anymore. I want to help and to be there for you." said Eric with another smile. He is so happy, it's contagious.
"Why don't we head back to California. You can meet my parent and meet the pack. I'm sure that everyone will love you." said Eric.
“California sounds great,” I say as we drive back.
