A Guardian

Amber I go downstairs for my first breakfast with the pack. The dining room is set up with huge tables and several buffet-style serving areas. I grab what I want and head to sit by Jewel. She smiles at me, "Good morning Luna!". "Good morning," I say back. I look to my right and see a woman struggling with multiple kids, none of them look like her. Jewel must have seen my puzzled face. "That is Alice, she is in charge of our children's home.  We take turns taking care of the children that are orphaned. Some are adopted, eventually. Right now we have more than usual, due to the increased attacks." explains Jewel with a sad face.  A little girl, with huge blue eyes, and bright blonde curls comes over to me and tugs on my sleeve. "Luna, I can't reach the food... my mommy use to make my plates for me." My heart melts in my chest. "Okay sweetie, I'll help you. What is your name?" I ask while leading her towards the food. "Emma" she replies shyly. "Alright Emma, what is your favorite food?" I ask. ...she thinks..."waffles!" We head over to the waffle station and load it up with all of the toppings. I also convince her to take a fruit salad with her.  I put her on my lap and we eat together.  Eric I head down to breakfast and my mom pulls to the side.  "Look at your Luna! She's a natural, Emma hasn't spoken since her parents were killed in the last attack." Explains my mother. I look over and see my mate, with a little girl on her lap, while she eats her breakfast. The little girl is now picking things off of Ambers plate. She lets her and kisses the top of her head. "We could use more help with the pups, maybe ask her if she's like to help with that?" asked my mother. "Yes, I'll mention it," I say as I head over to fix myself a plate. I sit down next to my mate. "I see that you've made a friend," I say with a smile. Amber smiles back as she wipes chocolate off of Emma's face. "Thanks, Luna!," says Emma as she scampers down, gives Amber a half hug, and heads back to the other kids. We head to my office for Dr. Moore's meeting. Amber We head into Eric's office and I'm somewhat surprised by it. It's bright, clean, and modern looking. California meets IKEA catalog. Lots of greys, whites, and wood tones. I wonder if we could design a house like this. Eric must see my face. "What's up? ask Eric. "...your office is so bright and modern. I like it a lot, " I say in reply. "Thank you! I spend a lot of time here. So I wanted it to meet more like a home, less like an office." says Eric as he logs into his computer. He pulls a chair out for me. At exactly noon Dr. Moore's face comes up on the zoom screen. "Good morning, Alpha Eric and Luna Amber!" She says with a smile. "I don't have a ton of time for this appointment, but I'll try to be brief so that you can ask me questions. I started looking through your family history, Amber. Both on your father's side and your mother's side. Pack doctors will keep pretty detailed records. Especially for their Luna and Alphas. Amber, this disconnection with your wolf has happened before on your mother's side.". says Dr. Moore. "Do you both know about the witch trials?" Asks Dr. Moore. "You mean where humans would kill witches because of fear?" replies Eric "Yes, that, well, Werewolves started to go through something similar in the eighteen hundreds, as the humans started to move, and settle more in rural areas, your ancestors were being discovered and killed, but it wasn't nearly as bloody because of the Guardian's", replied Dr. Moore. "What is a Guardian?", I ask. I've never heard of them. "Well, they did their jobs so well, and saved so many lives before they were killed, so you wouldn't hear about them. I've been learning about them through the different medical and pack logs that have been sent to me.  The guardians were seven female Alpha's, that united the werewolf community! They set up laws and brought peace. They worked with witches and other werewolves to help hide our identities. A lot of the common-sense laws that we follow today, were set by these seven women." says Dr. Moore. "The pill that your fathers take to make them appear older to the humans, that was first developed during this time. The shift to developing our own pack lands, with our own infrastructure to help us function without their help. Anyway, I could go on and on. What you have in common with them is that your wolf hasn't connected with you yet. What their wolves reported, when they were finally connected with them, is the Moon Goddess kept them in their subconscious. She kept them to train them further. So when they came to the surface, they were already ready to handle what was coming. I think that something is coming and you are again one of seven. How do we get your wolf to the surface of your subconscious? I'm still trying to figure that out. I've requested other medical journals from other packs. I have my assistant working on this full time until we find an answer." finishes Dr. Moore. I take a deep breath as I am still processing all of this. "Okay, how do I find the other Guardians?" I ask. "That I'm not sure, I think that your wolves reach out to each other. Once they're reconnected with you," replies Dr. Moore. "So now what do I do?" I ask. "Maybe read some of the notes that were left by your great great great grandmother, she went through a different sort of training with her wolf. There some notes about it here, I'll send them over. They're faded copies, but you can read them" replies Dr. Moore. "Okay, I'll start there," I say with a sigh. I look over to Eric, he looks like he is still processing all of this. We end the call and wait for the files to come through. What does it even mean to be a Guardian?
