KAI
It has been 4 hours now and still, nothing.
No talk.
No action.
Just silence and hate, aren’t I lucky?
Not.
“Maybe we should not have drugged her up and tied her to a chair.” Kade is right and if he is contemplating our extraction plan then that means Odessa is angrier than I thought.
“Then let’s untie her.” Kairo pulls out a knife that makes Odessa’s gaze turn.
Seriously? That is all it took? A crappy pocket knife.
“No!” I make the mistake of grabbing it because it returns her gaze back to me. “We are not untying her till she is diffused.”
Frostbite might be inactive but Odessa is still very capable, that I know to be true because her hands are a gift with an instrument but even more dangerous with a weapon as sharp as a knife.
“Don’t tell us you are scared of your little girlfriend?” Kiyoko taunts. “There is 8 of us genius and one of her. She is a small girl, what do you think she will do tied up?”
“Six,” Kade points out. “Ivan and Kudo just left, probably to call father and Vladimir.”
I look at Odessa and I can see she did not hear that because her eyes are still striking with hate and the blade is making things worse.
“We are not untying her until Kudo and Ivan return,” I close the knife. “Matter of a fact, we need to—”
“Katana!” Kade says the same time the cable tie around Odessa’s left ankle becomes undone.
“I am sobering up.” Katana moves to the right ankle with a box cutter. “This s**t needs to be over with,” I stop him before he can cut through it.
I know he is always high but is he insane?
“No.” I pull back Katana’s hand and hold his arm firmly. “Drop it.”
I might be the youngest but I am called wrath for a reason and I know I can take him in combat because Katana has not been sober since he was 14 and I train 4days a week.
“Whatever Kai.” Katana pulls out his hand from my hold. “I am out,” he turns away and starts walking.
“But Kudo said—” my sentence is cut off by something wrapping around my neck.
Seconds later, it tightens and brings me to the hard ground with clunk as my face and body meet the floor and the knife in my hand falls across the room.
“Holy s**t!” Kiyoko’s shock is the last coherent thing I see as I begin to drift in and out of consciousness.
“Pull her off!”
Distorted voices are making the room spin as the grip on my neck gets tighter and tighter.
If I did not know any better, I would think a snake just found its way around my neck but I do know better which means Odessa has gotten free.
And yep, I am definitely blacking out.
ODESSA
It was Friedrich Nietzsche, who first stated that what does not kill you, makes you stronger.
Well, they made the mistake of not killing me. Now I am stronger and I will not make the same error they did.
“Odessa!” Someone taps but it is pointless.
Kai Choi is going to die today.
I do not care if his brothers come after me or if it starts a whole war between our families. I do not even care if—
“Odessa! Come on,” a hand tries to pull me back by my hamstring and calve but I move closer to tighten the grip around his neck because they mispronounced my name.
Now imagine what I could do if both my legs or hands were free.
“Dostatochno!” The Russian word cuts through the red fog.
Wait.
Russian? I blink to find a pair of blue eyes I have not seen in months.
“Ivan?” I open my mouth but nothing comes out.
“LET GO.” He instructs in Russian but my body only tenses to cut off more oxygen.
Kai is now passed out. His face is turning purple before it will eventually go towards the blue color that will leave him dead.
“Let go of my brother you b***h,” a pistol connects to my temple but it does nothing to change my stance.
I am prepared to die too.
“Our family is in danger!” Ivan screams in Russian, “Rosanna is back!” He yells louder and finally,
I let go.
Almost immediately, I am pulled away from a limb Kai as a herd of bodies surround him.
“Didi? Are you okay?” Ivan cups my face to meet his gaze and his crystal blue eyes confirm that it was not a mirage.
He really is here.
“No.” I pass out.
I am far from okay.
When I come to be, I realize I am no longer tied up which is another mistake because I plan to finish what I started. Kai ruined my life in 30seconds and that will not go unpunished.
“Hi,” Ivan is next to the bed I am laying in. “Take it easy,” he gives me a glass of water but I turn my face away.
I feel woozy which means those bastards drugged me again. Another thing I need to remember when I get my hands on their youngest.
“Relax Didi, you are not kidnapped.” Ivan puts the glass down. “The Choi’s were the closest to you when grandpa called and you know Kudo and I are close so he offered to help.”
Help?
Is he joking?
It still does not explain a single thing that has happened to me. “I don’t tie up and drug the people I help.” I snap which makes my cousin exhale.
“I have Felix on the phone.” I face him again to find him indeed holding a phone. “He will try to explain everything,” Ivan extends the device and I grab it
“Hello?” My voice sounds hoarse because I haven’t spoken in days.
“Jesus Didi!” Felix hisses. “Did you have to attack the people that just saved your life?” I can feel him frowning but I do not care because I am mad too.
“What do you mean saved my life? They hijacked my cab and drugged me.”
Why does anyone not understand how triggering that was?
“It doesn’t matter. We are in lockdown, I am with the Hidalgo’s while you and Ivan are under the Choi’s protection till it is called off so please, do not kill anyone.” The tone cuts.
Wait.
Lockdown? That is the crappy explanation that is supposed to make me feel safe? A killer is back and the solution is to put us all in lockdown with our competitors?
They (my family) cannot be serious.
“Ivan,” I look at my cousin. “Where the hell are we?”
“We are in Seoul.” Ivan hesitates with good reason because did he just say Seoul?
As in South Korea, Seoul?
“But that is—that is in—” the phone falls out of my hand.
“Welcome to Korea,” six figures appear on my doorway. “We are the 7 sons of Choi.”
F**k me.
