On Our First Attempt

Chapter Sixteen

Ariana went to her parents who were discussing in their room and tried apologizing to them.

"Hey Mom, Dad....uhmmmm.......am sorry." She said.

"Sorry for what? I hope you had a great time all this years?" Sean lashed at her.

"Dad! Come on, you're supposed to be on my side when mom's angry with me." Ariana said trying to be funny.

"What happened to your head?" Isabella asked.

"I thought you wouldn't wanna speak with me." Ariana said, sitting beside her mom and wrapping her hands around her.

"If you were going to be staying away from us, you were supposed to at least take care of your health." Isabella said.

"How are you here with Logan? Did you call him over?" Sean asked.

"Yes and as for my head.......(paused to think about that horrible night)....... it's just a minor accident and am being well taken care of by a great doctor." Ariana explained.

"Did you.......did you even by chance miss us at all?" Isabella stuttered.

"MOM! Of course I did, but I was too ashamed to come back home which was why I had to wait for the right time." Ariana said.

"Right time? Do you know what your son went through as a result of your absence? He had to say hurtful words to himself because he was angry with you. He even questioned his birth, assuming you might not be his mom." Sean lashed at her.

"Am sorry Dad, Mom. I promise to make it all up to everyone especially Dylan." She said.

"Then go say that to him, he needs to hear that now more than anyone else." Isabella said and immediately Ariana stood to leave for his son's.

"But before then, who's that beautiful woman whom you came here with?" Isabella asked.

"My saviour mom." Ariana replied with a smile leaving her parents stunned and confused. She went to her son's room where she met him conversing with Logan and Valeria.

"So you mean to say that this woman here made my mom come back to me?" Dylan asked Logan but Ariana replied.

"Yes son, she's my guardian angel and am sorry for keeping you waiting and making you go through all that." Ariana said as she walked towards his son who was now hugging Val and thanking her for taking care of his mom in his stead.

"Are you trying to say you're the one that is supposed to be taking care of your mom rather than the other way round?" Valeria asked.

"Yes of course." Dylan replied.

"Why's that? You're still a kid afterall." Valeria asked.

"You've got to take that back ma'am because am not a kid anymore, this is is my tenth birthday you know. Ten years of being in this world, like ten good years of experience." Dylan said with utmost seriousness making everyone burst into laughter which lasted for over two minutes before it finally quite down.

"That's true sweetie." Ariana said to Dylan. "Listen up everyone, my boy's now a man, so you should treat him like one." She added.

They were still discussing when Hector walked into the room and called Ariana out to discuss with her.

"You're finally back here, huh?" Hector asked an obvious question.

"Yeah and am sor........" Ariana was trying to apologise but Hector interrupted her.

"You don't need to apologise for anything Ana. We were never a thing, it just took me too long to realize that." Hector said, making Ariana feel guilty.

"Let's try making our son's birthday more fun by taking him out to an amusement park or something. He's being seriously craving going to that place with both of us by his sides, afterall he didn't have any birthday gift yet." He said trying to lessen the air and avoid making Ana guilty.

"Sure, that's a great idea." Ariana replied.

They went back to Dylan's room and informed him about their plan to take him out. He was happy to hear the news but not as Hector had expected. They left for the park while Valeria stayed back at home with Logan, Isabella and Sean and thereby engaged in several discussions as they questioned her about their daughter. Valeria took her time to narrate her ordeals with Ariana and how she met her. Everyone found her to be nice and warm hearted and Isabella didn't fail to thank her alot for saving her daughter and also helping her back home. Logan didn't fail to tell her who was treating his sister.

"Oh, Dr Hawkins! He's a very good friend of mine. I will sure call him to show my gratitude." Sean said.

"Oh, really! Then you might know my father since Dr Hawkins was also the only closest friend of my dad whom I knew of." Valeria said.

"And your dad is who?" Sean asked.

"Dylan Kings." Valeria replied.

"Oh, The Great, that's what we used to call him. Any news about your mom after you're Dad's demise?" Sean asked with a tone of pity and compassion.

"No! No. She's totally forsaken us and that's fine now. We're better this way." Valeria said.

Logan noticed the tense air in the room as a result of the remembrance of the past memories so he decided to change the subject so as to not inconvenience Valeria. Oh "Ok....okay this is great. It's a great thing my Dad knows your dad but that's not the topic of the day. What we're here for today is a happy thing and we've got to stick to that." Logan said.

"Yeah that's great but before then I need to make a request." Valeria said.

"What could that request be?" Isabella asked.

"Ariana and I are going back to Las Vegas tomorrow." Valeria said, surprising everyone but Logan.

"Why's that? I thought she's come home for good." Isabella asked worriedly.

"Mom! Your daughter is not running away again, she's only going to complete her treatment and fully recover there." Logan explained.

"He's right ma'am and one more thing, Ana can't live in your house again." She said, surprising everyone.

"Why's that?" They chorused.

"Come to think of it, she's not a kid anymore and she's got to fend for herself and her boy. She's too experienced now to come back to San Juan or live with you. Can you believe she started hunting for job opportunities immediately she recovered from her accident? Why's that? That's obviously because she now knows what life really mean now and she've learnt not to depend on anyone." Valeria explained and everyone were in total awe. They understood what she meant and also gave her accolades for being so helpful to Ana.

"I can't believe you raised my daughter from being a baby to a full grown adult in just a month and few days." Isabella said. She moved closer to Valeria and gave her a tight hug. "Am grateful to you sweetheart, your husband and children are the luckiest." She added.

"Now I feel...............I feel on top world with all this compliments." Valeria said making everyone burst into laughter.

All through the day they discussed about one topic or the other and laughed when necessary until Hector returned back home with the Dylan and Ariana. They also joined in the merry till it was time for bed. Ariana decided to spend the night with her son while Valeria stayed in the guest room all alone. She began to miss her family after the merry with Ana's and so decided to give them a call. She called her husband severally before he finally answered after a few minutes.

"What took you so long to answer? Do you know how much I miss you?" Valeria asked immediately her husband answered the call.

"Am so sorry sweetheart, I was so busy I didn't here it ring." Carlos said looking unsettled.

"What's wrong sweetheart are............. you alright, you look........" Valeria paused, not knowing the proper word to use for him.

"What are you saying honey." Carlos chuckled, trying to be funny. "I'm totally fine, it's just that I miss you." He added.

"Oh, I miss you too, how are my boys, sleeping right?" She asked.

"Yes of course. How's Ana and her family?" He asked.

"They are all fine. I know Ariana was a spoil brat from a rich family at first sight but the way she acted, oh God, I didn't think they'd be this rich. A look at their mansion, it's woah! And guess what! Her father knows my dad and her momma is so wonderful." Valeria exclaimed.

"Woah..... that's........ that's really such a great thing to hear." Carlos stuttered making Val even more suspicious.

"Are you sure you're alright? You don't look it at all. What are you hiding from me?" Valeria asked, trying to intimidate her husband and make him talk.

"What do you mean by that? Am totally fine, just a bit busy." Carlos said boldly almost clearing Val's doubts.

"Ok then, I will be coming back tomorrow, so you don't miss me too much." Valeria said.

"Woah, that's quite earlier than I thought. You know you can take your time right? And I will take care of the boys and myself. So stay safe and I think I really need to go." Carlos said and ended the call afterwards, leaving Valeria startled.

"That's kinda weird. He doesn't seem to want me back so soon. Is he that busy?" Valeria wondered as she laid down on her bed facing the ceiling as it was hard for her to get a good sleep. For some unknown reasons she felt worried and unsettled herself. Was it because of her call with her husband or something else? She didn't really have an idea herself. But then she really needed to get a good sleep in other to prepare for her journey back to Summerlin North tomorrow.

SUMMERLIN NORTH, CENTRAL CITY

Whilst Ariana and Valeria celebrated Dylan's birthday in Puerto Rico, the whole town of Summerlin North were in a total turmoil and the media was not left out as it was the center of conversation or rather disturbance.

Sofia Ryan, the all time entertainment anchor took out her time to calm the masses and also explained the news in detail in one of her television programs so as to avoid false rumors and gossips and everyone eagerly awaited her announcement.

"It's Sofia Ryan again on the entertainment news and this time it's about the best realtor, one of the richest young man, a business tycoon and also the most eligible bachelor in the whole of Summerlin North." Sofia paused for a bit.

"Alot of rumors has been going around about his recent accident which happened earlier today and alot of his followers and fans are already spreading a news that he died on the spot, but we are happy to inform you that he's still alive and is in one of the best hospitals in Las Vegas and hopefully we all await his quick recovery. For now we're going to be taking comments and suggestions." Sofia announced and waited for some minutes before questions started trooping in.

"We have a very important question here and it goes like this:- It was rumored that he had an accident as a result of his drunken state. How's that possible when he barely goes out without his bodyguards and associates?" Sofia quoted one of the questions asked and the followers of her channel sent massages to show their interest in that question.

"You know, that's probably the only rumor that is true. Truthfully, he had the accident as a result of his drunken state but why? Why would such a high profiled person risk his life on mere alcohol? We've also delibrated on the answer immediately the news got to us. We're going to review that after our a quick commercial break." She said and afterwards the program went for a break by showing other adverts and Sofia took the opportunity to gather more information and also review her questions before the break ends.

After a few minutes break, the program resumed again and Sofia came to give her answer to the first question.

"Welcome viewers, now back to the question. Why did he have an accident as a result of drunk driving?" Sofia asked no one in particular.

"Before we answer that we should first ask this:- where did the accident takes place and why would he be there in the first place? Alot of people will say of course it's just some normal road that everyone pass daily but one thing there is busy people like Mr. Kings wouldn't waste time going to places that doesn't hold a meaning to them so we took our time to check which of his many properties and land is closest to the scene of his accident and we found one great and heart touching answer." She paused to keep her viewers in suspense and use the opportunity to acquire more viewers as everyone anticipated the answer before she finally spoke up.

"How many of us still carries the deep wound of the loss of our loved ones and feel like the incident just happened even after a long time?" She asked then continued.

"Well majority of us will say we do but our actions speaks for us just like it spoke for Mr Kings because the scene of his accident was closest to his father's grave and here are some pictures of Mr Kings drinking beside his father's grave. She ended her after answering a few more questions and in the end, Kyle became even more popular as alot of people sympathize with him and earnestly wished him safe recovery. While some of his fans and followers tried their very best to find out which hospital he was so they could go visit him from time to time.

ALL WELL HOSPITAL

Carlos stayed with Kyle at All Well hospital, one of the best hospitals in Summerlin North. Though that wasn't where doctor Hawkins worked, there were list of several great doctors who worked there and since Kyle's accident wasn't a major one, he decided not to bother Dr Hawkins with it and also made him promise not to tell his wife about it for now so as not to get her unnecessarily worried to which Dr Hawkins agreed to.

Lucas, Jason and Miguel also had to end their charade and check up on Kyle at the hospital as they now felt guilty for abandoning him in his time of excess need.

As they were all seated by Kyle's hospital bed, Dr Hawkins called Carlos to give him the news about his wife's return and then he became worried.

"Kyle's not even up yet, if she hears of this something unexpected might happen to her and that to happen." Carlos said worriedly.

"Don't work yourself up. Am going to make sure I explain to her before she sees it on media so she doesn't get the wrong idea." Dr Hawkins assured.

"I told her it was okay that he's suffered enough but she wouldn't listen but now things has gotten worse she going to be the most worried amongst us and now she's have a great time blaming herself." Carlos said.

"You know what I think?" Dr Hawkins asked.

"What?" Carlos asked worriedly.

"I think you're even more worried for her than she'd be for Kyle." Dr Hawkins said.

"Oh come on Doc. Nevermind, just help me talk to her before she get here and please don't let her come here today, it's already getting late." Carlos pleaded and afterwards ended the call after reaching a reasonable decision with Dr Hawkins.

Back at the airport, Valeria made sure she personally took Ariana, Logan and of course Dylan home before going back to her own house as it was already late. Immediately she was done with settling them in, she drove to the Kings Palace to see her brother from a distance because she really missed him. As she stood in front of the Palace, she silently and keenly watched the penthouse for sometimes with a hopeful eyes before driving back to her house.

She parked her car at the parking lot and went to her living room with her phone in hand as she scrolled down the internet. She was just about to step into the the main room when she saw the news about her brother's accident and just then she saw Dr Hawkins sitting on a couch and her twin sleeping with their heads relaxing on his lap.
