Chapter 43

I've been summoned. I am sure there was a reason why I had to wait. Maybe he wanted to greet the guest without me. Which I would be grateful about. It is embarrassing standing there with him and Aceline. Not only to me. I am labeled the mistress which is bad enough, I hope to only be the interim Luna this weekend. But between Rowan and Aedoin it was impossible It is also embarrassing to Aceline. The future wife having to publicly share the spotlight with his mistress. It is situations like that why ahe hates me and wants me dead. I made my way over to the ballroom as fast as I could. His command had been clear, wait in the office, come when summoned and not a minute later. As soon as I neared the ballroom I held my head high. This outfit, these chains...are degrading, but I won't let people see it that way. I'll pretend to wear it with pride, rather than shame. As I moved each diamond caught the light of the candles. It made it hard to not be noticed. I didn't look around at peoples reactions. I just looked ahead. In front of me I saw Sanders who had turned to look at me. He masked his reaction. I couldn't read it, behind him was Aedoin and Malissa. His eyes clouded with lust, he likes the chains and hers with disgust. I didn't make eye contact with them. I walked right pass them to Rowan. Stopping next to him. I had no idea what he was expecting of me. He didn't tell me beforehand so I'm sure we will have a lot of private conversations tonight. I looked at him to see what he wants next. He hooked a finger on the chain that went from the collar to my clevage, pulling me closer to him. the chains all over my body tighten from him pulling at this one. His lips slammed against mine. In that moment I forgot where we were. the fog had become worse the longer I stayed with him. this kiss was melting me. My hands went into his hair pulling at it as my body rubbed against his wanting more, needing more. It's hard to stop once I am in the fog. I wouldn't, but Rowan could and he did. I was grateful that he did, because I was mortified by what I was doing. Now more than ever I couldn't look over at Sanders. Rowan held me around my back his hand resting on my hip. I was just glad he let go of the chain. "Aedoin, how does it feel knowing that I can hold on to two women, while you couldn't even keep one alive." I gasped without even thinking. i felt his hold on my hip increase. it was enough to make me wince out of pain, but I didn't because it was a warning. I wasn't allowed to have emotional reactions. Still bringing up his dead mate was uncalled for. I guess he doesn't care since he was willing to reject me and tomorrow he is willing to kill me. "We all know the secret of how you manage to keep them both. You are very liberal when it comes to consent!" Malissa spit out at him. I just stood there blank faced. i'm already one warning in there is no way I am getting to three. "Did that kiss look like I was forcing her, because I'm sure that I heard a moan escape her lips. that indicates pleasure and not repulsion the last time I checked." It's true my body isn't repulssed by him, but I am. it has been a constant battle for the last three years. I have tried fighting the fog, I have tried not having a reaction, but it never works. "You are sick!" She spat out at him. It wasn't something I would ever deny. Sick is putting it lightlly. Depraved, now that he is. "Actaully. I'm happy, healthy and fullfilled. Now if you would excuse me I have a trophy to show off. Come little mate...Spare you too!" He said as an afterthought towards Aceline. She looked like she was silently fuming. I wonder what he said to shut her up. I wish he did it three years ago. Dealing with a silent Aceline would have been so nice. I let him drag me away with him, i quickly took a chance to look over my shoulder to steal a glimpse of Sanders. He was looking at me. I imagined that he would be disgusted by me, but he only smiled as he caught my eye. which is when I saw Aedion who was clearly struggling to get his anger under control. It seem to worsen when he caught me looking at Sanders. I noticed him him wiggling his finger in a no gesture at me. My head wipped around. How did I get myself into this situation. The next couple of hours were filled with forced laughter, fake smiles and insincere compliments from my side. Rowan was living his best life with me at his side. some of the Alphas seemed to find it strange that he was basically ignoring the girl he was getting married tomorrow. Rowan couldn't keep his hands off my body. I guess that he was regretting my attire while also enjoying it. I just let my mind drift off most of the time. Rowan would give me commands when ever I was needed to join in on the conversation. I almost think he prefers it this way, then he at least knows that I won't be saying anything he doesn't approve of. My vacancy disappeared as my eyes caught Sanders again. He was on the complete other side of the room, but when our eyes connected they stayed on clues. My heart beat slightly sped up at these forbidden glances. Before I knew it he was making his way over to us. My heart stopped. Why would he come over to us. There is no reason for him to do something so risky. I tried warning him with my eyes, but it like he didn't care. "Rowan, could I have the next dance with Dilara. As former school friends it would be nice to catch up." It was a dangerous move. he was counting on Rowan behaving himself infront of the Alpha he was talking to. Not only that, but Sanders dropped all formalities as he talked to Rowan, making it seem like they were acquianted with one another. I felt as Rowan's hand reluctanly let go of me. I'm sure that he wanted me to object. It is what he has come to expect of me, but I needed to talk to Sanders about what I have decided. 'You better keep it f*****g PG13' I heard Rowan growl in my head. I swear I could feel his anger ripping through my mind. Sanders held out his hand for me, I hesitated because the idea of paying for this later made my blood run cold, but I took his hand anyway. This might be the last moment I have with him. as soon as we were far enough away from Rowan, i opened my mouth to scold him. he shouldn't have done this. there will be obvious backlash. Rowan hardly let me talk to anyone here, but he is letting me dance with an enforcer. It would seem like he doesn't trust the other guests. "Woah and I thought it would be frightening to ask your date if I could take you out, but asking your pshycotic mate was by far scarier." He joked about it. he obviously can't see how this will affect him and me in the long run. Honestly I already have one alpha threatening him, I don't need another. "It's not funny. You shouldn't have done that. Things could have been a lot worse." I tried to explain, but the smile on his face told me it wasn't resinating with him. "What's the worst he could have done...Said no? It's not like he will start a fight in the middle of the ball." He seemed so sure of himself, but I knew that when the wolf was in control Rowan was more than a little bit unstable. I wouldn't put it past him. "And what about what he will do to me tonight? Did that ever cross your mind, closed doors and all." His smiled slipped off his face momentarily, but as he spun me into the dance position it was back. "Lara if I knew you would look this great in a dress I would have asked you to prom." He was joking again. He did ask me to prom. I thought it was a joke and I was to busy with pack things to even think about it. I missed out on so much of my life, just to get into this damn university. I'm not putting anything off anymore. "I've decided to take Aedoin up on his offer. He'll get me out of here and i'll be his mate." I just said it, getting it out of the way. "That would be a big mistake." I looked around to see If Aedoin was watching us. He has clearly set rules that prohibits Sanders from seeing me. "He has stepped out, he couldn't contain his wolf. The jealousy of seeing you with Rowan got to him. If you leave with him you will be making the second biggest mistake of your life. He is exactly like Rowan. He sees you as a trophy." Everything I worked for in my life has resulted in nothing, I am merely a plaything for the powerful and depraved. That seem to be my lot in life. "I know. i have seen his cold and caculated side. I'm trading one cage for another." I said matter of factly like it wasn't my life I was talking about. "Then why do it? I told you I can help. Why don't you trust me?" I more than trust him, I love him. I have steadily been ruining not only my own life, but everyone around me too. I know it isn't my fault. I know there is no way I could have changed this. Yes I decided to come here and that got the ball rolling, but I can't help having Rowan as a mate. I can't help having Malissa as a roommate. It doesn't mean I am not responsible. "He threathend you. He knows you came to see me the other day. I don't know how much he knows of what happened when you did, but you disobeyed him so he has a legitimate reason to kill you. My options are limited. it's stay here and possibly get killed by Rowan and then you die or go with him and then you and I get to live." It's really not a hard decision to make. it's loose two lifes or save two lifes. "You really need to start thinking about yourself. You are always putting everyone's needs ahead of your own."This all started with me being selfish and ungrateful. now I'm finally thinking about someone other than myself. I also have my babies to consider. "Can you maybe just dance with me. This is our first dance. I don't want to talk about all of the other things or people. I just want to enjoy this with you." He pulled me closer. I leaned my head against his chest as we swayed to the music. I felt my tears rolling down my face. They were silent. I don't know if he noticed. If he did he didn't say anything. Rowan had decided to sit on his thrown chair for the rest of the night, with me on his lap as he took in the festivities. He didn't want anyone to get close to me again. Acelin sat on the Luna chair looking bored. Rowan helped with that by sending her to get him a drink every now-and-then. Secretly I enjoyed having the roles reversed a bit. It's about time she felt how it felt to just be the help. As the evening started to come to an end I felt the fread seep into my soul. I was terrified of what this night would bring. Especially with Rowan being so attentive. It's here where I'd like to switch back role with Aceline. I'd much rather he went home with her tonight.
