The comatose man is awake

925 Words
Harland Milton never imagined that the moment he woke up, he would be greeted by such a scene. A strange woman stood before him, staring at his body with trembling hands and a face full of terror, as if she had seen a ghost. So, everything that had just happened wasn't a dream. Thinking about what she might have done to him, anger quickly surged in his eyes. "Who are you, and what are you doing here?" His voice was hoarse, and the ferocity in his gaze made Sofia tremble all over. "I... I am... I'm the wife your family arranged to take care of you..." Wife? Harland's eyes flickered, and without hesitation, he pushed the woman to the ground. "What do you think you're doing?" he asked, his gaze cold as he looked at the items on the table. Sofia's face turned red. She hadn't expected him to wake up, and it was clear he had already guessed what she had been doing. Now, she felt like a thief caught red-handed, with no way to escape. He grabbed her by the neck. Despite being in a coma for a year, his grip was still incredibly strong. "What did you do to me? How dare you! Do you know who I am?" The man who had been so peaceful in his sleep was now ablaze with a fury that seemed capable of burning anyone alive. "I'm sorry, I thought you wouldn't wake up." Richard Duncan suddenly understood what was happening. He grabbed her by the neck, "So now everyone thinks they can scheme against me? Even a woman dares to plot against me." "No, you've got it wrong," Sofia William stammered, not knowing what to say. Seeing the murderous look in Harland's eyes, she scrambled to her feet and fled in panic. Harland tried to go after her, but his legs gave way, and he nearly fell. Sofia took the opportunity to run out of the room. Harland cursed under his breath. At that moment, he noticed the servants outside, staring in shock. One of them screamed, "The young master is awake! The young master is awake!" The entire Milton family was roused from their sleep. No one had expected that the man, whom the doctors had declared would soon die, would suddenly wake up. The once-deserted small villa was now quickly filled with people. An elderly woman with white hair grasped Harland's hand tightly, tears streaming down her face. "Harland, you're finally awake. I thought I would have to bury my own child. I prayed every day, willing to give up a few years of my life for you to wake up. Finally, heaven has answered my prayers." "Alright, Grandma, he's awake now. Please stop crying," said Catherine, dressed in mourning clothes, her eyes filled with tears as she glared at Harland Milton. "You've been sick, and the whole house has been in chaos. Now that you're awake, tell us what happened. How did you suddenly get into a car accident? Was someone trying to harm you?" "Accidents can happen to anyone, Catherine. What are you implying? Harland looks fine to me. Maybe he was faking it this whole year," Lila said sarcastically, casting a sideways glance at Harland. Catherine spun around angrily. "It seems like you're the least happy about Harland waking up. Could it be that you had something to do with the accident a year ago?" "That's quite the accusation, Catherine. After Harland's accident, it was my dear brother-in-law, your wonderful husband, who managed MILTON'S mGroup. Maybe the accident had something to do with you." "How dare you!" "Enough," Grandma snapped, her voice filled with anger as she glared at both of them. "Harland is awake now. Let's not dwell on the past for the time being." Harland's cold eyes swept over the two of them. "I don't remember how the accident happened, but I want to know about the woman from today." Mentioning the woman brought a flicker of anger back into his eyes. The old lady finally remembered, "Oh right, where's your wife? I... I thought you might not wake up anytime soon, so I arranged a marriage for you, hoping she'd keep you company. Where is she?" Richard Duncan's face turned ashen. Gone? She must have fled out of guilt. After everyone left, Elijah, who had always been by his side, walked in with red eyes. "Sir, it's a relief you woke up. This past year..." "Whoever harmed me a year ago will pay dearly. But first, I need you to investigate something for me." Harland took out a bracelet from his palm, still stained with his blood. "While I was in a coma, this bracelet fell into my hand. Find out who it belongs to.” The bracelet had fallen into his hand, and in his unconscious state, he had gripped it so tightly that it pierced his palm, waking him up. This person might be his savior. "Also, find out where that woman named Sofia William has gone!" Elijah was surprised but quickly nodded. Elijah worked fast. By evening, he had tracked down the owner of the bracelet, Joyce Evans, and brought her directly to the villa. Joyce was forcibly brought in, nearly scared out of her wits. But upon seeing the person waiting for her, she was even more shocked. How could she, of all people, have the chance to meet such a figure? Seeing the terrified and dazed Joyce, Richard narrowed his eyes and took out the bracelet. "This belongs to you, doesn't it?”
