Ringing... Ringing.....
Michael answered the phone, "hello"
Calums voice was scratchy and low.
"Michael I -" Calum was abruptly cut off by Michael's panicky banter.
"Did you find him? Is he okay? Of course, he is. Can I talk to him? Where are you We're on our-"
"MICHAEL!" Calum yelled.
"He's dead Michael. Lukes dead. He's dead okay." The Dark hair boy said as he began to cry. "I tried to save him I did. But It was too late. He got so cold. Then he-" Calum Couldn't stop gasping for breath.
Calum heard a crash on the other end of the line and the call went silent for a bit. He heard another voice "Mikey?! What happened are you okay." It was clearly Ashton
"HE KILLED HIM! HE KILLED HIM" Calum heard screaming in between painful cries. "ASH" Michael Cried "HE KILLED LUKE!"
Calum's heart dropped. The words played over in his mind as he sat down on a swing in a vacant playground. He wasn't sure if he could go on living. Especially considering the fact that the only boy he's ever loved, just died in his arms and he would never be able to tell him how he felt. Never be able to hear his voice. He remembered the last time seeing his face. Bloodied in the pouring rain.
From Luke's perspective, Calum had never noticed him.
The older boy could care less, but the truth was Calum had always loved luke. He played it off of course because of what? His Emotions- or fear of.
Calum always thought that the greater your capacity to feel love, the greater your capacity to feel pain. Right now, he was wishing he had listened to himself.
His parents warned him about the drugs in the streets but never the ones with the blue eyes named Luke and those blue eyes. Those blue eyes had more darkness than any brown eyes he had ever seen before. Had he known he'd fall for Luke he would've steered clear.
Calum pulled out a cigarette and lit it.
"Why'd you have to go and leave me, Luke?" He sighed, taking a pull and letting out smoke as he held the stick in between his teeth and rubbed his cold hands together.
"You were just getting to know me," He looked up at the sky as if the younger blonde was listening from up above.
"Who told you to run off like that anyway?" He got tired of the silence and demanded an answer "Answer me!" He screamed at the sky.
He shook his head and tossed the butt of his cigarette to the ground. He felt a warmth wash over him and at first, he thought nothing of it. Eventually, he looked to his left. Sitting beside him on the next swing, to his surprise was Luke, his pretty boy.
"You scared me." Said the younger blonde. "I didn't mean to run away like that."
Wide-eyed Calum responded, "What are you a ghost?"
Luke didn't answer.
Calum observed the boy. Looking over his body to make sure that his eyes weren't playing tricks on him. He looked different. His hair wasn't wet. His mouth wasn't bloody. He wasn't dead.
"Luke?" His voice was shaky "Who Did this to you?" He rubbed his hand down his face.
Luke turned to face him. He opened his mouth but when he tried to talk nothing but blood managed its way out.
Calum was being tortured all over again.
"Please. You have to tell me, Luke" Before Calum could get any answers from Luke, he faded away.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"CALUM! Calum!!" A voice interrupted Calum's thoughts.
Jolting awake Calum quickly remembered where he was and why he was there.
"Any news?"
"No, the doctors just say he's in critical condition" Michael huffed
"How long was I asleep? And where's Ashton?" Calum wonders
"Uh Maybe 7 hours after the blackout... He went home to tell My mom and Stewart that I was staying here until I found out luke was okay. He's bringing back food. Want anything?" Michael explains
"Blackout??" Calum asked Confused
"God, you really don't remember anything?" Michael Sighed. "After you found luke you dialed help. After that, you called Ashton and me. When the EMTs arrived you were both unconscious holding each other. You woke up after being treated and came and sat with me so 7 hours have passed "
Calum took in everything he was told. So that was just a nightmare, Luke's Not dead.
"Now do you want anything to eat?" Michael Repeated clearly tired.
Calum thought to himself for a bit and smiled.
"A happy meal. Chicken nuggets and french fries please" He said, remembering the night before.
"It's done," Michael said. "And Calum,"
Calum looked over to where Michael was sitting.
"Thank you for saving him,"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Michael, Calum, and Ashton sat together as They waited for news on luke.
"Why didn't you eat your food? Was it cold? Because I ran here?" Ashton Apologized
Calum shook his head " It's not f-"
He was cut off by a petite man with a mustache and no hair. "For Luke Robert Hemmings?" He said in the waiting area.
The three boys scrambled to their feet when the doctor came out, with his clipboard, straight-faced and looking around.
The air was so thick, you could cut the tension with a knife.
"Yes," they said in unison
"Luke will be fine. The blade of the knife missed his femoral artery by an inch, we managed to patch his thigh up and the other blade he was stabbed with, in his stomach caused internal bleeding we were able to surgically stop the bleeding before the blood clotted and went to his heart." The doctor explained.
Michael's body slumped his stiff posture disappeared as he let out a shaky breath. Ashton extend his arm to reach for the younger boy's hand soon they're fingers were interlaced.
A slow smile crept onto Calums face and he let out a huge breath."When will we be able to see him?"
"Right now," the doctor smiled and directed them down the hall to a warm and dimly lit room. "One at a time boys,"
"Calum you go first," Ashton said tapping the dark-haired boy's shoulder.
Calum sighed, walking through the door. "Hey, pretty boy." He let out a shaky laugh.
Luke sat up quickly.
"Woah take it easy" Calum suggested.
"Cal-" Luke manged
"Hush- save your breath."
Calum gave luke the once over.
Tears formed in his eyes and he croaked "don't you ever scare me like that again."
Luke closed his eyes and compulsively nodded.
Calum put his hand on The younger boys and breathed heavily. He looked out the window it was still raining.
"Thank you for staying Cal- it means a lot, but you didn't have to," Luke whispered
Calum just chuckled."You don't know how much trouble you put me through... You're like a tornado with pretty eyes and a heartbeat, Hemmings."
Luke blushed A pretty rose color.
Calum got an intense look on his face as he looked into those oceans the younger boy called eyes "But I promise, that every single night Before the darkness swallows this already blackened world, I'll tell you how beautiful you are to me. I'll tell you how I... I love you."
