Do you remember our story?’ He asked. ‘The story of how We Fell to Earth.’ I shook my head. He smiled and continued. ‘Once when the world was new, and the sun had yet to shine for life on the world. The sun fell in love. It was not just any love. It was love, that almost purest form. The moon was a cold, dark, barren place in which life could not grow. But in its coldness and scarred faces, the sun saw beauty in it. The sun looked at the face of the moon, showing the world of its beauty, every plane of its beloved's face. But for all that love we are unable to touch except for a brief window during an eclipse, they passed close enough to whisper sweet nothings to each other. After many years of the moon declaring its love for the sun, blocking out with sun's rays to the earth, declaring its love and return.’ I smiled warily.
‘That's not the end of our story.’ I asked. He smiled.
‘No, no, it is not. Humans believe that our declaration was a sign of impending doom. That The gods wanted retribution to the suffering they found immensely powerful coven, the leaders of the tribes had decided their relationship was too dangerous to continue. The coven bound was spirits of the sun and the moon in a human form, causing us to fall to earth. After the Moon Spirit fell from heaven, they became distraught. She attempted many times to get back to heavens. The attempt was futile, the aftermath of the miracle. They became gods, and they lived for thousands of years worship as gods until their bodies were unable to continue. New bodies grew from the old and were born again into different bodies. Till a thousand lifetimes have passed. Must we endure till we can return to the heavens?’ Tears ran down my face. I did not know if it was because of the story or what I had to do next.
‘I am sorry, but I cannot choose. Not yet.’ I whispered.
‘I know we still have time. We can sort this out.’ It was silent for a long time.
‘What happened to your father?’ He asked. After several seconds, I responded, ‘He died. The illness took him extremely fast. He died within a few months of realizing he was sick.’ ‘Why do you ask?’
‘Your father was always extremely protective of you. And he despises Cobalt and the Council as much as I do.’
‘Did you know my father?’
‘No. Not in a typical sense, to keep up to date with what was happening elsewhere. I used to sneak into your father's office to learn what I could. He was a meticulous record keeper. That is how I found out about William's visit to Coralline and why I left. I do not believe he of would ever agree to a marriage with you and Cobalt.’
‘He did not. It was Charles’ idea.’
‘We do not have to decide right now. Let us just enjoy each other company. I've missed you so much.’ We spent the night remembering childhood memories until early in the morning.
‘I need to go. Mother will be up shortly. I will see you in a few days.’
‘I have not given up, you know, just because I'm producing a better plan to take you away.’
‘Well then, I wish you good luck and a good day, sire.’ I curtsied, turned on my feet, and I snuck back into my room.
