I popped us downstairs. Sierra was a wreck too. Phil linked me, “I DESPISE BEING ME RIGHT NOW!” I linked, “Yeah me too.” Phil snorted, “I can’t take this…..Spencer needs to watch out for them.” I winced, “Spencer has a mission too. He’s gone.” Phil groaned, “Great.” Then she smiled, “Cayden will know Ashley is coming back. He will Micah or Silas there.” I nodded, “That is probably true.” I asked where I was popping them to. It was a hotel in Louisiana. That made sense. They had two rooms. I popped them into the room. Phil linked me, “I’m stealing Sierra away in a minute.” I nodded, “Do what you need to do, cousin.” I told the girls that they could just stay in the Hackura realm until I got back. Phil linked, “Come on Selene come through for us.” Melanie declined. Phil linked, “I blame myself. I should’ve said Aesir. Then she would’ve said yes.” I bit my lip so I wouldn’t laugh. Phil left to go into the other room with Sierra.
I told Melanie the truth. This would pass by much slower than our time together, but it was only three days. I told her to call me whenever she wanted. She wanted me to focus. I told her that I couldn’t do that if she was worried and upset I’d leave her. I pointed out she could ask me to promise that to her. I’d give her anything she wanted. She shook her head and adamantly said that wouldn’t be fair since I didn’t know. It was adorable and unnecessary because I did know. I was just pretending not to know this thing she felt was a big secret. It made me love her more though. I kissed her and put all my feelings into that kiss. I pulled back and told her to text me. She said she would. Phil echoed my statement to Sierra. They must have come back in at some point. I’d been so focused on Melanie I hadn’t noticed. He told Sierra he’d come get her. He linked, “I’ll throw Melanie over my shoulder too. I’ll bring a Hackura guard with me….I’ll grab one of yours.” I smiled, “Not a bad idea. Just tell them who she is. They’d guard her.” Phil nodded, “I will.” I opened a portal. I linked Phil, “This is a mistake. We shouldn't leave them.” Phil linked back, “What choice do we have?” I didn't know. They wanted us to go. They had “stuff” to do whatever that meant. I pushed my feelings down and walked through the portal to the Hackura realm.
I portaled us outside the castle. Phil sighed, “I’ll just go...somewhere in the background. Maybe I’ll happen to hang out somewhere Cayden is and get some f*****g information.” I snorted, “Stick around the castle. I’ll have to be fast. He’s going to want to talk to me and someone will mention I’m here.” Phil nodded, “Good point.” I walked into my Uncle’s office. He smiled, “Hello Alexander.” I smiled, “Hello Uncle Bjourn.” He threw my burner phone for the mission at me. I caught it and immediately texted Melanie on it. He looked at my neck and frowned, “I thought for sure you’d be marked.” I sighed, “Melanie doesn’t want me to mark her or vice versa until I get back from my mission.” My Uncle startled, “Why?” I sighed, “She has something she wants to tell before we mark each other. She thinks it could change things between us, but she’s wrong. Nothing would or could make me not want her.” My Uncle frowned, “Why would she believe that?” I told him, “I don’t have the full picture. I don’t particularly care for….no I abhor the pieces I do have.” My Uncle frowned, “She can stay here while you’re gone.” I smiled, “Thank you for saying that. I offered. She has stuff to do.” He sighed, “I suppose she could just go to Black Mountain with her friend.” I grimaced, “Her friend is returning where they came from. They have things to do then her friend should be joining Phil afterwards.”
My Uncle frowned, “I imagine Phil does not like that.” I snorted, “Understatement. I don’t like this at all. I wish the girls would just stay here.” My Uncle frowned, “Is there a reason she doesn’t want to stay here?” I nodded, “Yes. I believe there is.” My Uncle leaned back, “But you’re not going to tell me.” I sighed, “I just need a bit of leeway here. She is my mate.” My Uncle nodded, “I’m giving a whole lot of leeway everywhere lately it seems. Time will tell me if that’s a mistake. I think she should stay here though. I don’t know why she wouldn’t just go home to Red Run and wait for you. Did you take her to New York after Switzerland?” I shook my head, “No.” My Uncle raised an eyebrow. Eventually he said, “Here’s your folder for the mission.” I took it, “I intend to wrap this up as quickly as I can.” My Uncle laughed, “I’m sure that you do. It shouldn’t be horrible. Cozy up to some people and get some information. You can download it too. Whichever way you can get us the information.” I looked over the file, “Demons?” My Uncle nodded, “Yes, I want to know if they know about the drugs we’ve been stopping.” I nodded, “You think that they do.” My Uncle nodded, “Yes, I do. I think they could be ring adjacent.” I nodded, “Alright. I will get you the information.” My uncle stood and hugged me. He pulled back, “I am very happy that after all this time, you’ve finally met your Melanie.” I grinned broadly, “And she is mine.” He clapped me on the back, “I told you she was.” Oden linked, “For the record, so did I.”
I laughed, “It’s nice to know for sure. I’m not just possessive like the rest of them.” My Uncle said, “You never were. You were always hers and she was always yours. That’s where it came from.” I nodded, “I’m just glad we finally met.” My Uncle smirked, “Through Angela….how did that happen?” I smiled, “She called and told me to come get her. She’d popped states. I didn’t even think about it. Phil and I just went to go get her. I heard her pop away when we got there, and then I smelled Melanie.” My Uncle sighed, “I’ll speak to Angela’s guard. Hopefully she took one of them or Klaus.” I nodded, “I was going to ask that, but I got….” My Uncle laughed, “Distracted.” I nodded, “I knew Angela was ok.” My Uncle smiled, “Well go on. You can get settled.” I nodded and opened a portal. I was in Florida. I always thought it was ironic Demons loved it here, but fairies and demons both like Florida. I walked into the condo that was set up for me. I studied my folder. I was meeting someone for drinks later tonight. I looked at my phone to see Melanie had already said she missed me too. I texted her back, but didn’t hear anything.
I could take a nap. I took a deep breath and decided to call Jase. He didn’t answer. I called T next. He picked up, “Well, if it isn’t the mysterious Alpha.” I frowned, “Huh?” T laughed, “You don’t know that everyone is buzzing about you bringing a girl home and that girl getting in a fight over you?” Based on the fact he was laughing….he didn’t know who it was. I snorted, “I didn't think they would talk about it.” T snorted, “Oh your pack isn’t talking. Your fairy relatives are all aflutter about it.” I winced, “Well….all will be revealed when I get back.” T laughed, “I figured that. Did you finally get a date?” I sighed, “I mean….I’ll explain when I get back. I called Jase but he didn’t answer.” T told me, “He’s busy. He needs to focus on what he’s doing.” I sighed. I couldn’t really push here. I wasn't exactly telling him something either. I decided to switch my questions, “How’s Melanie?” T sighed, “She’s good. Loving Paris.” I frowned, “You talked to her?” T snorted, “I mean does three minutes over skype count as talking? Her place there looked nice enough.” I stared at the phone in surprise. What the f**k? Melanie was a terrible liar. I asked, “What does her place look like?” T blew out a breath, “I don’t know…. A place? The Eiffel tower is in the distance out her window.” That was beyond not possible.
Oden linked me, “I don’t like that Xander. Someone else is pretending to be her. Why?” I linked back, “I don’t know.” I asked him, ‘When did you talk to her?” T asked, “What’s with the inquisition? I talked to her yesterday.” That was not possible. I’d been with Melanie...inside her mostly. We hadn’t slept. She couldn’t have snuck away to talk to him. He absolutely did not talk to Melanie. I told him, “When is she going to come home?” T snorted, “Never? I don’t know. She hasn’t even made it home to meet Kai. She missed my mating ceremony. I don’t know how we will get her home.” It hit me like a freight train. Melanie wouldn’t do that. What the actual hell was going on? She loved T. She would’ve never missed his mating ceremony. Why did no one ever think of that? Not meeting her nephew? Sure, she’d tried a couple times and bad weather hit…..but why didn’t anyone find that weird? I certainly did now. I paused, “That’s weird.” T sighed, “She’s living her dream. She had a recital on the day of our mating ceremony. What else could I say?” Did she? I wasn’t so sure anymore. I knew the girl I had on my computer dancing was her….there was no faking her dancing. Fairies. Someone was working with fairies….or a powerful witch to charm something to have someone look like Melanie enough to fool her family. Now that I thought back to the skype videos with her and Jason I had….They didn’t really even sound like her. She never got nervous and rambled. Didn’t they find that weird? T interrupted my thoughts, “I’ve got to go, but feel free to call back if you want to name your mystery date.” I snorted as he hung up. I sighed, “You’d probably kill me, T.”
I laid down. My thoughts were swirling. I’d just dozed off when my burner phone rang. I picked it up, “Uncle Bjourn...I told you I'd make this one fast, but not that fast. I don’t have anything to tell you.” I heard panting on the other end, “I’m not Your Uncle Bjourn. I need a favor, no questions asked.” I smiled, “Your wish is my command Lovebug. What do you need?” Melanie paused, “I need you to come get us and pop us back to our hotel. I’ll text you an address. We will be there in ten minutes. We need to leave as soon as we get there.” My phone beeped. I did a double take, “What the f**k are you doing in Missouri? And how did you get there?” Sierra hissed, “No questions!” I said, “I’m practically there.” I popped to an old, abandoned warehouse. I put my hand on the building. It hummed with magic. What the f**k? I did a double take. This building was not what it seemed at all. I studied it and filed the address away for yet another thing I needed to look into. Despite my confusion, I couldn’t keep the smile off my face. This is much sooner than I thought I’d get to see Melanie. I sighed and waited for the girls to get here.
