I asked, “Where’s Booker?” Alpha Edward growled, “Who cares?” I tilted my head, “You should. It’s weird he’s not here.” I looked at Beta Jean, “Let me guess Booker was the last person to talk to Edward before the spineless tucks his tail between his legs, Alpha took a newborn pup from a doctor and held a knife to his throat....possibly with my “uncle.” Alpha Edward growled, “WHAT DOES IT MATTER?” I snorted, “They spelled you. Obviously. That’s why it matters. You don’t have the balls to hold a newborn at knifepoint.” Jean frowned, “Edward...she’s right. They were the last people you talked to before this happened.” Alpha Edwards snarled at him, “Chain her up.” Beta Jean hesitated. I rolled my eyes, “Oh just do it. Then figure out how you let your Alpha get spelled and why on GOD’S Green earth his Gamma would do that and disappear. You know he never misses a punishment of mine.” Beta Jean’s eye’s flickered. He nodded. Freya whispered, “What the hell is going on?” I sighed, “Magic and crap? I don’t exactly know. I’m going to push you down, this will hurt.” Freya said, “Wait!” I didn’t. She didn’t deserve this.
Beta Jean handcuffed my hands then put them on the crane and lifted it into the air. A warrior of Buck’s walked over with a cattle prod. His eyes were telling me he was more than happy to do this. He didn’t like me. He turned it on full blast. Great. He hit me with it. I almost passed out after the tenth time. I was forcing myself not to hang on. Beta Jean said, “Enough!” Alpha Edward growled, “NO! MORE!” I couldn’t keep my scream in when I was hit again. Then I heard Addison yell at them to stop. I looked up startled. My friends didn’t understand. Something was wrong with Edward. I yelled at Addison to leave. Avery joined Addison and so did Paige. I heard wolves snarling in the distance. They wouldn’t be able to see us. Did the Beta from Blair’s pack come back? I let Freya come back. I told her, “I need whatever strength you’ve got.” Freya gave it to me. I kicked my feet up using my core muscles to get off the hook. The warriors were all fighting my friends. Dax and Caine showed up along with Hendrick and Mason.
I took out the warrior that hurt me. I turned, “AVERY LOOK OUT!” She was being flanked. To my astonishment, Buck flew into the fray and protected Avery. I paused for a beat. A roar of anger hit the air. My heart stopped. I knew who that was. It was Xander. I turned and saw who was on the outside of the magical barrier. It was Black Mountain and their allies. I saw Ajax and Oden; however, they couldn't see us. I heard a cynical laugh behind me. I turned. Alpha Edward was pointing a gun at Ajax. He’d put the pup down. I screamed, “AJAX! NO!” I ran at Alpha Edward. I reached him right before he fired and made him fire into the air. We fell to the ground. I hissed, “You’re not killing my only living brother you bastard!” Alpha Edward laughed. He headbutted me in the face. My nose broke. I didn’t care. We grappled for the gun. He kicked me away and pointed it again. I pushed it to the side and grabbed the slide pushing it back and releasing the magazine in it. He snarled and kicked me away from him again. It was hard to breathe. Freya was losing strength. I’d been shocked too many times. I looked up as Alpha Edwards laughed at me. He held the pup out to drop it into the hole. My eyes went wide.
I gathered all my strength and stood up. I screamed, “NO!” I heard several other screams. I ran as fast as I could. He smirked and dropped the baby. I dove over the hole. I caught the baby and barely grabbed the edge. The Alpha was running away, but another Alpha had him already. I didn’t know who it was, but he’d defeated him. Sadly, it didn’t look like the Alpha was going to kill him just yet. A pity really. He needed to go. He did have a lot of answers though I guess. I got my elbow up and pushed the up onto the ground as far away from the hole as I could. I whispered, “You’ll be ok little guy.” As soon as he was safe I was hit by a bat on the hand. I felt the bones in my hand break. I screamed. One of Buck’s warriors was trying to make me fall into the hole. I heard a snarl. Several actually but one distracted me because I’d heard it many times before everything changed.
I looked over towards the sound, and got hit in the head. Hard. I was seeing stars. I couldn’t hang on. I whispered, “I’m sorry Xander. I’m going to pass out.” I heard a howl of agony and anger. I knew it was Oden. I just couldn’t hang onto consciousness any longer. I heard screams, “LADYBUG!” I heard my mom scream, “MY BABY! SOMEONE HELP MY LITTLE GIRL!” As I fell I looked towards their voices. I couldn’t help but smile. At least it was a good hallucination. Getting hit hard on the head had its perks. My mom was there. So was T. My dad was running towards me with everything he had in him. Tears filled my eyes. Maybe it was my time to join them. They faded from my view. I heard, “MELANIE JANE YOU HANG ON BABY! DADDY IS COMING!” I smiled. I could only see darkness, but I felt arms wrap around me. This was nice. I knew that smell. I whispered, “I miss you daddy.” As I was fading from consciousness I swore I felt another pair of arms much smaller wrap around us. Suddenly I felt a breeze on my face, but that wasn't possible in the hole. Nothing was. It was just dark, cold, and small. Freya whispered, “We will be ok.” I hoped she was right. I wanted to talk to Xander at least one more time. I wanted to smell his scent and stay in his arms. A warm light surrounded me. It felt amazing. I couldn’t help but give into the feeling and float into the abyss of the light.
