I pulled back, “Let’s eat and hit the slopes.” Sierra squealed, “YES!” I loaded two plates again and handed Melanie one.” We sat down and Phil bit into the muffin. He groaned, “Oh my god.” Sierra snorted, “Right?” Phil look at me, “Never repeat this….Ever….these are better than Mrs. Blanch’s muffins. So much better. There is no better muffin than this one.” I raised an eyebrow and bit into my own muffin. In a simple taste I understood why Sierra snagged an entire dozen. Oden purred, “Mate is perfect.” Phil said, “For this alone Shley…...I’ll never let Alexander mess up things between you. He will not stand in my way of these muffins. You, my favorite cousin and Alpha, keep making her happy….because I need these muffins….once a week. I could budge to bi-weekly. That’s as much as I’m willing to compromise on them. I must have them, Alexander. MUST! I have already linked our pack that when we return…..we will let them feast upon the best muffins around. You can’t let the pack down. You’re the Alpha. It’s not allowed.” Melanie snorted. Sierra gaped, “Gosh where we come from are VERY different places.” Melanie muttered, “I’ll say.” Phil raised an eyebrow.
Sierra said, “Try the crepe mate of mine.” Phil kissed her then shoved the rest of his muffin in his mouth. He moaned and linked me, “Oh my god. It’s like an explosion of the perfect amount of chocolate. What other happy foods does she make? Because I believe it...the food is happy. Happy to give so much joy to my taste buds. Keep making her happy so that I may unlock all the happy foods my Luna can make.” I rolled my eyes. Phil used a fork and took a bite of his crepe. His eyes widened, “What are you some type of culinary genius?!” Melanie blushed, “I mean...no...I just...I don’t really like to follow the recipes. I throw in a little of this...little of that and then sometimes it turns out really well….just following my instincts...” Phil snorted, “WELL? My taste buds won’t go back to pre-Shley days. They are spoiled. My breakfast tastes...can only be met by you. It’s a heavy burden, but I believe in you.” Sierra was snickering. I told him, “She’s your Luna...not your personal chef.” Phil shrugged, “What he doesn’t know, Shley…..we have our secrets the Beta and the Luna. The Alpha is clueless….You and me….that’s where it is at.” Sierra started outright howling with laughter.
I shook my head. Melanie smiled, “You’re funny.” Phil smiled, “I’ve long said you and me, Shley. We were meant to be besties. I just knew. I always knew that was the way it was meant to be. You even brought me mate. Bestest Besties of all time.” Melanie smiled, “Well….” Sierra snorted, “You can’t steal my best friend, P.” I linked him, “P?” Phil linked back, “Yes Xander boy.” I sighed, “Touché.” He smirked. Phil said, “She needs a guy best friend.” Sierra laughed, “You’ll have competition there too.” I growled. Phil smirked, “I’ll win by default. I’m her Beta boy bestie.” Sierra laughed, “My brother does see her as more of a little sister. So you could get away with that title.” Phil smiled, “I get away….with so many things.” I nodded, “He does. Always has.” Phil smiled, “It’s the eyes and the smile. My cousin over there can get away with anything too.” I smiled, “Within reason.” Melanie laughed, “I doubt that. I mean look at you….I bet everyone just melts.” Phil smiled, “They do.” I kissed her forehead. I ate more than my fair share of muffins.
Melanie ran upstairs to grab her snow outfit. I snapped Phil and I into ours. Melanie came down in a skintight Red snowsuit outfit. SERIOUSLY? She could make a snowsuit sexy? I was so beyond screwed. I popped our group to the slopes. Phil smiled, “Here I thought you just forgot about little old me.” I rolled my eyes, “You know I don’t forget about you. You can get anywhere you want with a portal.” Phil smirked, “So true.” We rented the snowboards and took the girls over to the bunny slope. Melanie picked it up in minutes. Sierra snorted at our faces, “She does that. She’ll be going down the Black Diamond slopes here in ten minutes like a pro. She just picks up everything super easy. One time she got bored…Wanna know what she learned?” I smiled, “I really do want to know.” Sierra smiled, “Fencing. She learned how to fence. Just because….she’s done that with SO many things. Like archery. She can shoot a bow and arrow….because she got bored. When she gets bored...she learns new things. She can speak several languages...that she taught herself. I swear if the girl isn’t moving…..she’s learning something.”
Melanie motioned to me. I went down to her on my board. She smiled, “Can we go on some harder slopes?” I smiled, “Whatever your wish.” I grabbed her hand and took her to the Ski Lift. We went down some green’s, then blues….Then she was insistent we try a black slope. We both made it to the bottom. Sierra and Phil were coming down a blue. Sierra laughed, “Did I not tell you?” Melanie jumped into my arms and kissed me. I was surprised for a brief second. When she pulled back. She squealed, “This is SO MUCH FUN! I love it! I can’t believe all of this is happening. I mean really. Snowboarding in Switzerland….I just never thought I’d be here…..seriously I mean I can’t…” I kissed her, cutting off her rant. We spent the rest of the morning on the slopes. We ate lunch at the top of the mountain at the restaurant there before continuing. We’d finally gotten Melanie off the snowboard when Elias and his men found us. I frowned, “What’s wrong?” Elias smiled, “Who said anything was wrong?” Melanie studied him.
I heard her again plain as day, “Nothing seems wrong. I think he has news about something though.” I watched her for any sign she knew she’d linked me. Nothing. Phil linked me, “Why are you watching her as if she’s going to hatch?” I linked back, “This is the second time she’s linked me….but she’s not trying. Just like the internal thoughts she’s thinking come to me.” Phil’s eyes went wide, “That is a dangerous game man. The internal thoughts of women. How could she link you? You aren’t marked….nor did she join the pack.” I linked, “I don’t know.” Elias said, “Let’s pop to your place, then if you’d come with me. There’s someone who wishes to talk to you.” I nodded, “Of course. Will you guys be ok?” I asked the girls. Sierra actually looked worried. She answered, “Sure.” I linked Phil, “What?” Phil shrugged, “It was weird, right?” She’s claiming it was one hundred percent not weird.” I took our group around the corner and popped us home. I kissed Melanie, “Be back in a bit.” She smiled, “Ok.”
I popped our group to Elias’ pack. I was stunned to see Spencer. Phil smiled, “Hey cuz! What’s kicking?” Spencer smiled, “Just wanted to give you some interesting information on….are we still not saying his name?” I linked Elias, “Does he know Ashley is with me?” Elias linked, “We didn’t say anything about that.” I linked back, “Please don’t.” Elias linked, “Ok.” Phil said, “You asked SPENCER to get information on Trevor?” I said, “I did.” Spencer smiled, “So we are saying his name.” I glared, “As a curse word.” Spencer laughed, “Yes, well….Wannabe future Gamma McCann…..was trying to break into the house where Ashley Griffen lives. Seems he wants to know where she is. He was caught.” I nodded, “So he’s in the dungeons.” Spencer frowned, “You would think that, but no.” Elias said, “Excuse me? He broke into another pack member's place. What did they do? Ground him?” Spencer shook his head, “No….they did nothing. The two men who live there took him to the Alpha who...dismissed him with a firm we don’t break into people’s houses. Then the two men, whose house it was, got their pay cut for one week each for hitting the future Gamma for breaking into their home.”
Phil gaped, “You’re kidding me!” Spencer shook his head, “No, and no one there was surprised by that turn of events. They have a witch in the pack too. Stephanie McCann’s husband.” I frowned, “We don’t have that Stephanie McCann is married.” Spencer smiled, “it’s more of a in their hearts marriage than an actual marriage. The guy isn’t from around there. I don’t know his real name. I’m working on it. I can tell you his name isn’t Ajax. Which is what they call him. I find this assignment….gets more intriguing. It’s filtering into other avenues. I am still working on things Trevor McCann does not like. I might need more than a stab at this one, cousin. He’s horrid. I despise him already, and I haven’t dug that deep. What I can tell you is he’s claiming Ashley is his second chance mate. Apparently, he stumbled upon his first mate dying, and couldn’t save her. Seems off...honestly because he seems off. I can also tell you something went down between Ashley and Trevor as teenagers. What? I don’t know... I haven’t found out yet….but I will. There are MANY secrets in this pack cousin. I find….I want to uncover them all.”
I nodded, “Do it. Whatever you need. Find everything.” Spencer smiled, “Glad you are on board. I do not like these people. Their main house is immaculate. Their pack house and surrounding homes are in shambles. Except for the warriors under Ashley Griffen. They have repairs….and seem to be in working condition.” I frowned, “Shambles?” Spencer nodded, “They have two main houses. Where everyone who visits sees. They are nice. The Alpha and Beta live there. Once you get further into the territory….where I’m guessing only the pack goes...I know our surveillance hasn’t gone that far. I only did because I was following Trevor. I wouldn’t have even known where to go. Or known there was magic to get through to the real pack. I had to call Darius and swear him to secrecy. I dare say….My Uncle and your father…..will be irate over the pictures I have.” Darius was another one of Aunt Katie and Uncle Logan’s kids. Their youngest at the moment.
Phil gaped, “Oh come on! Show us already!” He took his phone and showed us. I felt rage. Hot white rage. I didn't need to look over to know my cousin's eyes were glowing just like mine. Their houses were literally in tatters. I asked, “Where’s the Alpha’s house?” Spencer showered us. I snarled. Elias was growing as well. He spoke first, “How dare that Alpha! I want a piece of them, Alexander.” I nodded, “You’ll have it. Spencer, this is good work. Stay on Trevor. Find anything and everything you can. When I get back from my mission. We take them down hard. I’ll show EJ everything. Our allies will agree too. We take them down, and we show no mercy to those in charge.” Everyone nodded. I told Elias, “I need to go to your gym.” He nodded, “So do I.” I popped us all to the gym. Spencer stayed to fight us for a bit. Then he headed back to relieve Darius who had to rotate off watching and gathering intel on Trevor duty. We’d fought for hours before I calmed down. Phil was not much better.
When we popped back to the house I expected the girls to be asleep. I did not expect to hear someone shhing someone as they sobbed. The sobs made my heart clinch. I took off running. Melanie was sitting outside on the deck sobbing her heart out. She reeked of vodka. I growled, “What the hell happened?” She couldn’t even answer me, she was so upset. I looked at Sierra, “What happened?” Sierra sighed, “It’s just….we just need to get her to calm down. That’s the priority.” I raised an eyebrow, “Fine, but I want answers. She’s….” I stopped myself. Broken. She was broken. I should’ve been here. I held her in my arms, and she eventually passed out or fell asleep I wasn’t sure which. I growled quietly, “What happened?” Sierra looked like a deer in a headlight. I didn't care. I wanted answers.
