AFTER SEVERAL DELAYS and postponements, the date of the sheriff’s trial was fast approaching, and everyone involved had received notices to appear in court at the appointed time. Philip and I were keeping an eye on Steve and Roger, and we were poised to talk to them if they showed any signs of nervousness. However, if they were at all nervous, they were doing a very good job of concealing their feelings.
The case had originally been assigned to Judge Hampton, but due to his having issued the original injunction, he’d recused himself.
