Daniel woke up in the police station, handcuffed to a chair. His head throbbed. Sheriff Dawson sat across from him, staring with a cold expression.

"Found you passed out in the woods," Dawson said. "Funny thing, though. We found something else too."

Daniel’s body tensed.

Dawson leaned forward. "You wanna tell me why Ethan Carter’s backpack was in your cabin?"

Daniel’s stomach dropped. He opened his mouth, but no words came out.

Dawson shook his head. "We’re gonna dig deeper, Daniel. And I have a feeling we’re not gonna like what we find."
