Michael sat alone on the edge of the pack’s territory, the cool evening breeze rustling through the surrounding trees. The sun had dipped below the horizon, painting the sky with streaks of orange and purple, but Michael barely noticed the beauty of the twilight. His mind was a tangled web of confusion, fear, and a growing determination he couldn’t quite explain.
He had managed to avoid any more confrontations after the incident in the communal hall, but the hostility of the pack still weighed heavily on him. They saw him as an outsider, a threat, and the more he tried to blend in, the more out of place he felt. But it wasn’t just the pack that troubled him; it was Selene.
She was a mystery to him—an enigma wrapped in authority and strength, yet there was something in her eyes that unsettled him. He had seen it when their gazes had locked earlier that day, a fleeting moment that had sent a chill down his spine. It was as if she was looking at him not just as an outsider, but as someone she knew, someone she was trying to understand or remember.
But that was impossible. Michael had no memory of her. His past was a blank slate, filled with shadows and fragmented images that made no sense. And yet, every night, when he closed his eyes, she was there.
In his dreams, Selene appeared again and again, her presence haunting and undeniable. Sometimes she was distant, watching him from afar with an expression he couldn’t read. Other times, she was close, so close that he could feel her warmth, hear the soft cadence of her breathing. The dreams were vivid, almost real, and each time he woke with a sense of loss, as if something precious had slipped through his fingers.
But the most frustrating part was that he couldn’t remember why. He had no memory of Selene outside of these dreams, no recollection of how he could possibly know her. It was as if his mind was playing tricks on him, showing him glimpses of a past that didn’t belong to him.
Michael sighed, running a hand through his hair as he stared out at the darkening forest. He needed answers, and the only person who might have them was Selene herself. But how could he approach her? She was the Alpha, and he was just a rogue, a nobody. The gap between them was a chasm, and he had no idea how to bridge it.
Still, the dreams wouldn’t let him rest. They pulled at him, urging him to seek out the truth, to understand the connection that seemed to exist between him and Selene. He knew he couldn’t ignore them forever. The more he tried to push them away, the more insistent they became, until they were all he could think about.
He stood up, brushing the dirt from his clothes as he made his way back to the heart of the pack’s territory. The night was quiet, the sounds of the forest muted under the weight of his thoughts. As he walked, he tried to piece together the fragments of his memory, searching for anything that might explain the dreams, but there was nothing—just an endless void where his past should have been.
When he reached the pack’s settlement, the lights of the cabins flickered warmly in the darkness, casting long shadows across the ground. Most of the pack had retired for the night, the sounds of laughter and conversation fading into the quiet hum of the evening. But Michael couldn’t sleep, not with so many questions swirling in his mind.
As he wandered through the settlement, his feet seemed to guide him unconsciously, and before he knew it, he was standing near Selene’s quarters. The building was larger than the others, its silhouette imposing against the night sky. A faint light glowed from within, and Michael could see the outline of someone moving inside—Selene.
For a moment, he hesitated, unsure of what he was doing. He knew he had no business being here, that if he was caught, it would only confirm the suspicions the pack already had about him. But something pulled him forward, an inexplicable need to be close to her, to try and understand the connection that haunted his dreams.
He stayed at a distance, hidden in the shadows, watching her through the window. Selene moved with the grace and confidence of a leader, her presence commanding even in the privacy of her own space. But there was a coldness to her, a distance that seemed to separate her from everyone around her, even when she was alone.
Michael felt a pang of frustration. He wanted to ask her, to confront her about the dreams, but he knew that was impossible. She was the Alpha, and she had made it clear through her actions that she wanted nothing to do with him beyond the role she had assigned him. Every time their paths crossed, her eyes were cold, her demeanor distant, as if she was trying to keep a wall between them.
And yet, in his dreams, that wall didn’t exist. In his dreams, she was warm, familiar, someone he felt he had known his entire life. The contradiction tore at him, driving him to the edge of his sanity as he tried to reconcile the Selene in his dreams with the Selene in reality.
Michael’s fists clenched at his sides, the frustration building to a nearly unbearable level. He had to find a way to understand what was happening to him, to uncover the truth about his connection to Selene. But how could he do that when she refused to acknowledge him, refused to see him as anything more than a rogue?
He turned away from the building, his heart heavy with the weight of his unanswered questions. As he walked back to the small cabin where he slept, his mind raced with thoughts of the dreams, of Selene, and of the past that continued to elude him.
But one thing was clear—he couldn’t keep living in this state of confusion and isolation. He had to find a way to break through the barriers between them, to understand why she haunted his dreams and what it meant for both of them.
Because deep down, Michael knew that the dreams were trying to tell him something important, something that could change everything. And he wasn’t going to stop until he found out what that was.
As he settled into his bed, the darkness closing in around him, Michael made a silent vow to himself. He would find out who Selene really was, and why she kept appearing in his dreams, no matter what it took.
