Chapter 03| Lyra

Lyra

"But my birthday is still a week away, Alpha," I said, smiling as I crawled toward him.

He gave a soft chuckle and handed me the box. I held it, still kneeling in front of him. I opened it and found a necklace. It was the same one from the book, the one I had chosen after days of research... the one that would camouflage my scent.

"Oh!" I shrieked, jumping up from where I was. "I don't believe it. I don't believe it! How did you get it so fast?"

"I think he knew I was going to say yes; it was already ready," he shrugged. "I thought it was only fair to give it to you before your birthday."

"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" I squealed, throwing myself into his arms.

I jumped into his embrace with such force that I caught him off guard. Josh stumbled back, and we both fell onto my bed, with him landing on top of me while I wrapped my legs around his waist, letting out little yelps of pure euphoria. I was so radiant that I didn't measure the consequences of the contact, feeling the heat of his chest against mine.

But suddenly, the mood shifted drastically.

I felt Josh’s body turn as rigid as stone beneath me. The tension radiating from him wasn't from surprise; it was something much denser, something that made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I realized what I was doing and, with a start, I let go of him, sliding to the side on the sheets.

He stood up slowly, but he didn't pull away. His eyes didn't leave me for a single second, and 그 gaze... it was as if he were hunting me. I felt a sharp contraction between my legs, a pulsing heat that took me by surprise. I bit my bottom lip, feeling my face burn, and suddenly snapped my legs shut, trying to hide the reaction my body insisted on showing.

The danger was palpable. His wolf was right there on the edge, ready to take control. Josh’s eyes traveled slowly down to my neck, focusing on the pulse in my vein, betraying just how fast my heart was racing. I lowered my head, looking away, unable to withstand that intensity—but my breath hitched when I felt his hand.

He squeezed my thigh with possessive force, his fingers digging into my skin in a way that made me hold my breath. Josh leaned in, hovering over me like a predator over its prey, and the scent of power coming from him left me completely dizzy, unsure if I should run or surrender to his touch.

Josh didn't give me time to decide. Before I could process the pressure of his fingers on my skin, his free hand plunged into my hair, pulling my head back to expose my throat, and he attacked.

It wasn't a gentle kiss. It was a possessive invasion, charged with a longing he seemed to have been suppressing for years. His hands gripped me tightly, claiming me, while his mouth worked against mine with a hunger that left me breathless. I let out a low moan against his lips, and he responded by grinding against me, his heavy, hot body pressing mine into the mattress, making it clear how much he wanted me.

The heat between my legs exploded, and I found myself responding, my hands clawing at his back, wanting more from this Alpha I had always secretly craved.

Suddenly, he stopped.

Josh pulled away abruptly, his breath coming in short, heavy rasps. His eyes were completely dark, the wolf roaring just beneath the surface, one step away from taking total control and claiming me right then and there. He stood at the edge of the bed, clenching his fists so hard his knuckles turned white, fighting his own instinct to lung forward.

"One week, Lyra," his voice came out as a low growl, vibrating through the room.

I stared at him, my lips swollen and my chest heaving, completely stunned. He leaned in one last time, his gaze locked onto mine, promising things that made me shiver.

"I’ll be waiting when your birthday comes. Don’t think you’ll be able to run from me after that."

Without another word, he turned and left the room, slamming the door and leaving me alone in the silence.

"My God, what have I done?"
