“Did you hear about the rose that grew from a c***k in the concrete? Proving nature wrong, it learned to walk without having feet. Funny, it seems to be keeping its dreams; it learned to breathe fresh air. Long live the rose that grew from concrete when no one else even cared." - Tupac Shakur, The Rose that grew from the concrete _________________________________________________________________________ I slowly opened my eyes to the gentle melody of birdsong, momentarily disoriented. The soft morning light illuminated Xavier’s face as he greeted me with a tender smile. “Morning, babe,” he whispered, his voice breaking through the haze of sleep. I turned towards him, my voice barely a whisper, “Morning.” His features, sharply defined by the light, gave him an almost ethereal appearance. “Like what you see?” he teased, a mischievous glint in his eyes. Caught off guard, I tried to play it cool. “Nah, I’ve seen better,” I replied, a lie hanging in the air. I hoped he wouldn’t see through it. He squinted at me, attempting to catch me in my lie. I held my ground, maintaining a smirk on my lips. “There’s this guy I met h—” I was cut off mid-sentence. “You’re lying,” his voice dropped to a low growl, his predatory gaze fixed on me. “Nope, it’s all true,” I insisted, though his closeness made me uneasy. Kade inched closer, his presence overwhelming. “What are you doing?” I stammered, uncertain. Sensing my unease, he made his move “Xavier,” I swallowed nervously. “Why so skittish, hmm?” He loomed over me, pinning me down. “I-I’m not,” I managed to gulp out, watching his every move as his hand caressed my abdomen. My heart pounded in my chest, and I knew he could hear it too. Any confidence I had left evaporated, and he reveled in it. The intensity in his eyes spoke volumes. “Xavier,” I began, my voice trembling. “Shh,” he hushed me, his touch silencing my protests. “Now, love, I’m going to teach you a lesson.” His eyes darkened, a glimpse of his wolf lurking beneath. The sparks trailing from his touch sent shivers down my spine, driving me to the edge. Before I knew what was coming I was assaulted with tickles. Xavier, gasping between tickles. “Take what you said back.” Kademonetarily stopping. I took my chance to take an air full. “N-never.” the assault of tickles continued. “Xavier,” I pleaded once more, but he was determined. “You’re not getting away that easily,” he smirked. (Replace) “Okay, okay. You win,” I relented, giving in. “I was just teasing.” His smirk widened, and I realized he had known all along, toying with me for his own amusement. I had called him a jerk, and he certainly living up to it. “How did you know?” I glared at him. “It was easy, really,” he replied, a knowing glimmer in his eyes. “Easy how?” I asked skeptically. “You have a tell.” “I do?” I was surprised, unaware of my own giveaway. “What is it?” I inquired, hoping to gain some insight. “Ah, ah. I’m not telling you,” he teased, refusing to reveal the secret. Furrowing my brow, I asked, slightly annoyed, “Why not?” Kadegrinned, a smug expression on his face. “Because, love, if I tell you, you’ll try to change it. And if you do that, how will I know when you’re lying?” He spoke with certainty. “You’re a jerk, you know that,” I retorted, feeling a mix of irritation and attraction. “Yeah, your jerk,” he replied, his smirk firmly in place. “Whatever,” I replied, squirming away from him until I broke free from his hold. “Come on, love, don’t be like that.” “Be like what?” I responded neutrally, sliding off the bed and making my way to the en-suite. I glanced over my shoulder, catching Xavier’s reflection in the mirror as he trailed behind me. His presence was undeniable, his dark eyes fixed on me with a mixture of desire and amusement. The en-suite was bathed in warm, golden light, casting a soft glow on everything it touched. I turned on the faucet, the sound of running water filling the space, and splashed some on my face, hoping to cool the heat that was building within me. Leaning against the doorframe, his arms folded across his chest. “You’re not getting away that easily,” he said, his voice low and seductive. I could feel his gaze on me, tracing the lines of my body with an intensity that made my heart race. I turned off the faucet and reached for a towel, patting my face dry. “I wasn’t trying to get away,” I replied, my voice steady despite the butterflies dancing in my stomach. He stepped closer, his presence enveloping me. “Oh, really? So, you’re not running from me?” His words hung in the air, charged with a mixture of challenge and desire. I could see the hunger in his eyes, a hunger that mirrored my own. “I’m not running,” I said, meeting his gaze in the mirror. “I just needed a moment.” Xavier’s hand reached out, gently brushing against the exposed skin of my shoulder. The touch sent a jolt of electricity through my body, igniting a fire that had been smoldering since I woke up. “And now that you’ve had your moment?” he asked, his voice husky. I turned to face him, feeling the heat between us intensify. “Now,” I whispered, my voice barely audible, “I want you.” The words hung in the air, heavy with desire and anticipation.
