Rory sat on the thick rug in Lucy’s cozy living room, her legs folded beneath her, a steaming cup of tea clasped between trembling fingers. The taste was earthy and strange, but it helped calm her nerves. Sort of. Nathan lay nearby in his wolf form, his hulking body curled beside the couch like a guard dog on full alert. His glowing blue eyes hadn’t left her once. Every time she shifted, every time she glanced his way, he was already watching her—quiet and patient. Lucy moved gracefully around the room, lighting a few candles that smelled of sage and lavender, casting a soft glow over the warm wood walls. Rory glanced toward the older woman and asked hesitantly, “So… this ‘marking’ thing you mentioned… how does it actually work?” Lucy turned and gave a small smile, not at all surprised
